The new Jeep Wrangler (named the JL) retains the storied model’s rustic charm and distinct proportions, while making improvements to its powertrain, amenities, and connectivity. However, awkward access, excessive wind noise, and rough ride continue. There's no hardware revolution here as the new Wrangler retains its body-on-frame construction and solid axles.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"it is A toy & for that it is great."

Larry H., AB (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Huge improvement over the JK. The drive is much smoother, the turn radius is better, the shifting is smoother and it is actually a vehicle that is enjoyable to drive. I loved my JK but it was mostly due to styling, the drive was not very good. The JLU is much more fun to drive and it looks fantastic."

Brett P., CO (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The JL version with 8 speed transmission accelerates much faster than the JK version. Handling is also much better...holds the road better when cornering"

John K., FL (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"handling is much better than previous years. Comfort has made this vehicle much easier to drive in any condition. It's my go to vehicle......"

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Acceleration is very poor unless the engine is rev'ed up high."

Jean-Pierre B., SC (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"This is a very good redesign for the Wrangler. The only thing I have experienced in my Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon that is different from other Wranglers I have owned is the slight walking that occurs on the highway. That is you really have to pay attention to the steering while driving or you could easily veer from your lane."

Anonymous, OK (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"It's a Jeep Wrangler!!!"

Richard C., NJ (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"It rides like a truck. It does not handle like an SUV. I expected it to drive like a car. I bought it for my 16 year old! I do like driving it despite the handling. It is heavy and I feel she is safe while driving given it has a hard too"

Carman W., TX (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Could still use more power."

Jim M., AZ (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"plenty of power for merging. Love the tight turning radius. Kinda nimble."

Robin R., CT (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"with an 8 speed automatic, acceleration is more responsive than any i've had before."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"I have a V6 with a manual transmission. It's fun to drive and the transmission is very smooth."

Paul S., MI (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Acceleration is quick, responsive and powerful. The 3.6 motor with manual transmission is a workhorse."

James B., RI (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Moves with the alacrity that the Jeep Cherokee is missing. This turbo and 8-sp Auto is the package that should be in other Jeep products. The commanding view of the road is more F-150 and less RAV4."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The 8 speed automatic transmission gives this Jeep the acceleration need to join fast moving traffic safely. And the transmissions ability to keep the engine speed in the most efficient range. This gives this jeep the best fuel mileage ever. At this time I am getting 21.9 mpg."

W J., PA (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"First of all it is a great looking vehicle and I enjoy driving it with the soft top off. The six speed manual transmission shifts like a sports car"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Large "dead spot" in steering on-center. When attempting to drive in a straight line, vehicle darts left and right, requiring frequent and immediate correction, particularly at highway speed. No solution from manufacturer so far."

Edward M., WA (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The engine feels more powerful and responsive."

Chad M., OH (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"it is a wrangler JLU Rubicon on 35" tires but drives around town like a RAV4. the turn radius is wonderful! the downside is it needs 2 minutes (height of summer heat, likely longer in winter) to warm up before driving or it wants to stall; too much tire weight without a program correction. on the trails it easily outperforms my previous moderately built JKU Rubicon."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"It accelerates great and is quick for a jeep. Still noisy but the drive is equal to the 4 runner. Its much improved in handling and ride quality."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The handling is very tight (with a great turning radius) and the acceleration is immediate. This is a very fun-to-drive vehicle."

Michael L., MI (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Extremely smooth engine/transmission/drivetrain for a Jeep. Firm but comfortable ride, good handling for a Jeep."

Terrence-Linda B., FL (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The Wrangler is a true 4x4 ready for off road use. The new model JL also drives better than ever on the road!"

Anonymous, IN (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"4 Cylinder Turbo gives peppy acceleration. Great height and visibility all around the vehicle. Comes with start/stop feature and it is so quiet, it is hard to tell if the engine is on or off."

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Very quick and handles much better than our last Wrangler limited"

Roger L., VT (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Very responsive automatic, don't miss the manual much"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"I am used to Luxury cars. 3rd car is a mercedes & 4th car is a 2016 gmc yukon xl. the jeep wrangler has lots of road noise and the seats are not as comfortable as in my other verhicles, however this is to be expected in the type of vehicle it is. I bought it to do serious off road trails"

Norm M., MT (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"I have had several past model Wranglers (JK) and the new JL is much more comfortable overall. I commute 1 hour to work each way every day and it is perfectly fine."

Paul S., MI (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Seats are better than those in my 2017 Wrangler."

L C., TX (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"2018 Wrangler is 50% better than my former 2017 Sahara, ride, comfort, handling and overall satisfaction. Can't believe CR always knocks the Jeep Wrangler. I have had four in my lifetime and enjoyed all but none more than the 2018 JL."

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Surprisingly quiet and comfortable, especially on the highway when compared to JK"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The soft top is much more quiet The soft top is much quieter and easier to operate than my 2013 Wrangler."

Warwick R., VA (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is fun to drive. The seat and steering wheel are very adjustable."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Seats are comfortable. Would like to see electric driver seat on all trim levels. A little noisy but to be expected with Jeep Wrangler."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"First of all it is a 2019 model The upgrade from the 2018 model is phenomenal"

Roger L., VT (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"Equipped with the 4-cyl Turbo and auto engine stop, the vehicle is almost hybrid quiet at lights. Good driving position and visibility for a broad height range. With standard all season tires, the road noise at speed does not seem intrusive. Able to carry on conversations without shouting - a more refined Jeep."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Jeep Wrangler)

"It like Jeep finally decided to put effort into comfort. I’m used to the old style Jeep seats but the new design is brilliant. Arm rests are at the right height/length. Seats hold you in place and are comfortable. Wranglers will always be noisy but it has definitely been reduced."

Ethan R., ME (2018 Jeep Wrangler)
