The Kia Optima stands out among typical humdrum midsized sedans with a well-tailored coupe-like silhouette. It also comes with a generous helping of standard equipment for the price. But look past these initial draws and the Optima proves quite ordinary. Neither noise isolation nor ride comfort are stellar. This iteration of the Optima remained a good choice, but was showing its age relative to the newer-designed competition.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“The Optima is fun to drive, It has a sport sedan feel to the cornering and quick acceleration.”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Kia Optima)

“VERY fast”

JAYE H., FL (2014 Kia Optima)

“The Acceleration is adequate but when I first got the car the steering was way to sensitive. I had a friend with the same car and he had the same complaint. I took the car back to the dealer and they went into the computer and somehow dampened the response of the steering down. It is a pretty good driving car now.”

PAUL S., TX (2014 Kia Optima)

“Really like the acceleration for a small engine.I am amazed at the visibility of the backup camera at night and in the rain.I don't like the passenger seat being so low without any adjustment to raise it.”

GAIL L., FL (2014 Kia Optima)

“I often describe the Kia as "spongy". Not bad but not precise in accel and handling. I purposely accepted less performance in hopes of better MPG. I don't see a perceivable increase in MPG corresponding to decrease performance.”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Kia Optima)

“Turbo charged and has plenty of power. Handles well, better than average.”

WAYNE S., GA (2014 Kia Optima)

“A little better handling”

SHARON A., LA (2014 Kia Optima)

“It is a very smooth running car. it is a hybrid. Good mileage and comfortable quiet ride.”

SHARON C., AZ (2014 Kia Optima)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Passenger seat sits to low. No height adjustment”

Anonymous, FL (2014 Kia Optima)

“Ride tends to be a little noisy, especially on the highway. Suspension is not as smooth as I would like in this type of vehicle, but certainly not uncomfortable or a problem.”

GUY G., IA (2014 Kia Optima)

“Passenger front seat does'nt have height control. Dislike red dash lighting, it is harder color to read.”

R J., PA (2014 Kia Optima)

“Front passenger seat is awful.Too low and not adjustable”

Anonymous, MA (2014 Kia Optima)

“Passenger seat too low”

SHARON A., LA (2014 Kia Optima)

“passenger seat much too lwo”

LAURA S., NJ (2014 Kia Optima)

“Front passenger seat is too low for a short person, had to purchase an ugly cushion to see out of passenger door window. Was unable to adjust to the height preferred.”

TINA B., FL (2014 Kia Optima)

“I should have opted for the power seats.”

PAUL S., FL (2014 Kia Optima)

“Found the seats very comfortable. Great control on the internal temperature with the auto climate option.”

Anonymous, QC (2014 Kia Optima)

“A lot of road noise and suspension clunks. Seats don't go low enough to get a comfortable driving position, climate control works well”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Kia Optima)

“passenger seat is way too low, not adjustable”

D L., CO (2014 Kia Optima)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“I never had to take back to dealer,,with problems”

RICHARD R., PA (2014 Kia Optima)

“We leased this Kia, and feel that by doing so, we got more car than we would have if we had chosen to buy outright. I don't think I can justify buying a new car, but in our situation, leasing makes sense.”

BRUCE T., MD (2014 Kia Optima)

“Reliability”

Anonymous, KY (2014 Kia Optima)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“It's a beautiful car.”

Anonymous, FL (2014 Kia Optima)

“Set the trend that other manufacturers have now copied. Styling still looks "fresh" even after 2 years.”

WAYNE S., GA (2014 Kia Optima)

“Our Kia Optima is a nice riding and handling vehicle. We have had two major wire chews by rodents which were not covered under warranty. They were expensive to repair. After first chew we had a strobe light installed, but the rodent disregarded it and chewed wires again. We have used Irish Spring on panel and moth balls to deter them.Manufacturer should coat wires to avoid nest building rodents from wiring or cover replacement with warranty.”

SHARON C., AZ (2014 Kia Optima)
