The Kia Sorento is a "tweener," playing in the space between small crossovers such as the Honda CR-V and midsized vehicles like the Toyota Highlander. Splitting segments like that allows the Sorento to be city friendly while offering accommodations, storage, and features akin to larger vehicles. For some shoppers, this Goldilocks package lands in the sweet spot.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Nice comfortable driver with plenty of power when needed."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I drive in the 'ECO' mode. That moderates the acceleration. I don't like heavy side loads, so I don't 'test' the handling. However, the car seems to be very stable and corners well. It's a great 'old person' car."

Peter L., CO (2018 Kia Sorento)

"2,0 turbo crushes the 2016 Outback I just dumped. Outback is ok, but just to slow to drive the Utah highways were the posted speed is 80 MPH.. THe Kia Sorento has no problem leading the pack both on the highway and off road, very sure and stable. THe adaptive cruise is amazing"

Greg G., CA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Fit and finish, quiet, acceleration MPG"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED IN A VEHICLE"

Anonymous, GA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"great acceleration"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"powerful acceleration for such heavy car, nice handling in country roads and in emergency situations"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"It accelerates and handles well, but is VERY touchy. My husband constantly moves the steering wheel just a little - and the car responds - too much!!"

Anonymous, MN (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The pep from the 3.3 L V-6 is very exciting as well as the tight and responsive handling. Sometimes I forget that I am driving a SUV and not a sports car!"

Anonymous, WA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I love the ease with which it handles, almost feels like it is floating. Great acceleration and control!"

Sybille S., BC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Acceleration and handling is excellent No built in navigation system is a negative"

Linda B., AZ (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Good road trip car. Handles well. All warning systems work well and help when backing and lane changing. Transmission smooth and shifts at right speeds."

Anonymous, GA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The safety features, parking assist, smart cruise control, able to leave up to 4 car lengths between cars, auto hold, lane departure feature. blind spot detection, front, rear and side cameras. Love the responsiveness of the v6 engine, how the car handles and how it has a quiet ride. LOVE LOVE LOVE my 2018 Sorento"

Jose M., TX (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Acceleration is great with the V-6. Immediate steering response."

James S., NC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The car shifts gears too much, probably an attempt to increase gas mileage. Acceleration is good with the V6 but the constant shifting distracts from the driving experience."

Martin M., FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"smooth acceleration, handles well"

Anonymous, SC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Suspension and/Or steering noises started at around 5,000 miles."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Kia Sorento)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

Martin M., FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"seems to be noisey when driving."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Heated seats, very smooth ride, quiet cabin."

James S., NC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Seats are comfortable during lomg trips."

Dennis W., OH (2018 Kia Sorento)

Anonymous, WI (2018 Kia Sorento)

"some wind noise"

John O., GA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"seats are very supportive. Handling is very good."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I think the car is very quiet. Is fairly quiet on chip seal roads."

Peter L., CO (2018 Kia Sorento)

"4 way lumbar support was an important factor for us. Seats are very comfortable. Very quiet ride. Handles very nicely. Not completely pleased with driver visibility to the front and side. But This is a given in current styling of most vehicles - shallow side windows and slope of windshield. More pronounced for me as I am 6’4‿ tall."

Glen G., BC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"comfortable seats+"

Anonymous, SC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Long rides in this vehicle are very comfortable and quiet."

Bill E., ON (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The car rides well and is very quiet relative to other cars I have owned. Driver seat gets a little uncomfortable on long drives (3 hours plus). Climate control (air conditioning) is a little slow to cool the car on hot days."

Anonymous, MI (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Driver's seat doesn't offer as good of back support as I had hoped for, it doesn't really surround my back, but leaves gaps. Ride is smooth."

Candy A., IL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Better adjustability of seats and steering wheel."

Sybille S., BC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The kia has a lot of road noise. The engine noise sounds like a valve clearance problem. The dealer stated this is normal"

Ronald E., MN (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Driver's seat has lots of adjustment so easy to find a good driving position. Super quiet at all legal speeds ... highway or city. Takes virtually all bumps in stride. Only bad thing is we find ourselves driving faster than we think!!!"

Paul G., AB (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of room. The arm rest on the door is a little low for comfort. Also, the ride is noisy."

Paul L., TX (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Every mfg uses a different standard human analog. The KIA fits me better than most other auto makers. Comfortable in traffic and quiet on the highway"

Anonymous, MN (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Our previous vehicle was a 2008 Honda Civic, so everything is more comfortable."

Tom L., FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Good ride and quiet."

John D., IL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Somewhat confortable seats, the leather looks not much durable, very smooth ride, very nice driving, some high noise at high speed (radio is difficult to hear)."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Ride is quite comfortable, with seats that fit my body well, reasonable visibility. interior noise is very satisfactory, but some tire road noise is noticeable."

Anonymous, RI (2018 Kia Sorento)

"as with most small suvs, road noise. seats are cloth and beat heck out of leather. very easy to clean."

Steven H., WA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Comfort is good. Seats are good. Noise level is very good. This car has allot of power and hugs the road like a sports car."

Gregg B., AZ (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Rides and handles well. Very quiet. Only distractor is the bucket front seat cushoin widths appear to be designed for very small framed people."

Rich H., WI (2018 Kia Sorento)

"side of front seats are too high"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Seats are uncomfortable, especially for longer rides."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Kia Sorento)

Anonymous, FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The ride is very quiet with virtually no outside noise"

Anonymous, SK (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Very comfortable. Quiet and stable at speed. Easy to take on long trips"

David W., NY (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Feels like riding in a luxury automobile."

Joyce H., NJ (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Liked the ability to adjust forward and backward the position of the 2nd row seats, as well as being able to recline. More comfortable for long road trips for taking nap on back seat with kids. 3rd row climate controls are great for people at the very back. The only bad part is that after 24,000 miles the tire noise from the Hankook tires are starting to be annoying, they make a loud humming noise. They did not make a lot of noise new but I find that these cheap tires are the worst part of the car, not overly an issue but would have been nice if Kia stops using cheap tires on the cars. I had similar issue on a 2011 Mazda 5 with their Dunlop tires making terrible humming noise after wearing."

Andres M., TX (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Too small and too firm. I am 5'10", weigh 220 lbs. Seat bolster too hard and pushes into left leg. Seat not wide enough. Pushes billfold into hip causing discomfort. Ride is somewhat harsh and noisy."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Built like a tank. Very solid and pleasant driving experience. Great comfort."

Anthony K., OH (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I wish it was quieter on the highway. There is some road noise so I have to turn up the volume"

Henry L., FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

What Owners Say

"awesome bangfor the buck, never leased before, but with 6k leasing bonus just couldn't pass up. We spend most of the time on dirt roads . off roading in moab and most of so Utah, THis suv is beautiful very comfortable suv take a beating and keeps on going AWD. nice to know I have 100k warranty too"

Greg G., CA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Vehicle is top of line SXL which includes all the latest safety features. Only disappointment is that Canadian models do not have a tire pressure monitoring system as is found on US models. This is just plain weird and cheap in today's market for a vehicle that lists at $50,000. Bought this SUV as 2019's were being introduced so Kia and dealer incentives were great. Plus this vehicle had extras included such as 3M (a necessity where we live) and winter wheels/tires."

Paul G., AB (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Great value, with the immediate accessories/accommodations that are important to me."

Anonymous, RI (2018 Kia Sorento)

"We especially liked the infotainment system. It was the main reason I bought it over the Highlander. Having Apple CarPlay was great value. It gave the ability to have great gps navigation without having to purchase a higher trim level. The CarPlay hands free texting is amazing. The third row seats are a pretty decent size and have rear climate control as well. Warranty is excellent and overall better value than Highlander. Great 12v and 120v power outlets and lots of usb connections for charging."

Andres M., TX (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Very good value for the money."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"You gave it a good score and it was cheaper than the Toyota."

John D., IL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I just think this car delivers great value for the dollar. Reliability is very good. Not one service call needed."

Anthony K., OH (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Overpriced for size. Will consider Rav 4 or CRV next time. Rented Rav4 and liked ride better."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Value is very good. $3000 cheaper than the Toyota Highlander."

Gregg B., AZ (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Excellent warranty gives me confidence in the vehicle"

Joyce H., NJ (2018 Kia Sorento)

Anonymous, PA (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Great features and overall Quality for the Price paid."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Compared to the other SUVs that we were looking at and test drove with the options that we where looking for. The Sorento was thousands less than the nearest like features competitors."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The Sorento SX is a great value for the money. It is solidly built, has standard safety and comfort features that cost extra in a luxury brand, achieves decent mileage and performance measures, tows up to 5,000 lbs., is comfortable, and drives well."

Anonymous, CT (2018 Kia Sorento)

"A LOT OF VEHICLE FOR THE PRICE."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Got many conveniences that would have cost much more with other brands."

Darlene J., NV (2018 Kia Sorento)

"For the money expended and based on the fit and finish this was an excellent value for the money spent"

Anonymous, TX (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I user to own a Acura MDX. I feel I got the same (or better) for $25000 less !"

Anonymous, QC (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The standard warranty on Kia vehicles is 5 years vs 3 years on most other manufacturers. The financing rates to purchase were also 0% vs other manufacturers (Toyota, Mazda, etc.) were upwards of 5% over a 60-month term. The standard features (comfort, convenience, safety) are more comprehensive vs a comparably priced Toyota Highlander and Mazda CX-9."

Anonymous, ON (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Using USAA Auto Buying Service (affiliated with True Car) got me an extremely good deal without hassling. Only concern is that you have to use USAA certified dealerships and there may not be a certified dealer nearby. I live in Ann Arbor, Mich and ended up using a dealership near my daughter in Dayton, Ohio."

Anonymous, MI (2018 Kia Sorento)

"Comparable to Ford Explorer for a lot less money"

Anonymous, TN (2018 Kia Sorento)

"The quality of the interior looks and feels like that of a luxury SUV. There are no cheap plastics and alot of thought and care went into the design and detail."

Tom L., FL (2018 Kia Sorento)

"I got the 7 passenger Sorento and it works well, even shorter adults fit in the back row. It included an upgraded entertainment system and climate control."

Candy A., IL (2018 Kia Sorento)
