Kia Soul

The boxy-looking Kia Soul is a tall, front-wheel-drive wagon. Packing a lot of room into its modest footprint, the KIa affords easy access and a spacious rear seat. Handling is secure, aided by standard electronic stability control. The 2.0-liter engine brings average acceleration and 25 mpg overall, which isn't anything special. Controls are simple but interior fit and finish is basic.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Anonymous, TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"Handles great until there is snow. It's wide tires are no good in snow."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"Despite it's age & mileage, it's still a peppy car that's fun to drive! It has good road feel. The only thing that I don't like about this car is that the wide pillars really negatively affects visibility and has large blind spots."

George C., QC (2010 Kia Soul)

"Simple 4 speed automatic transmission that works beautifully. Adequate power and acceleration for merging and passing. Taller view of the road and taller driving position."

Anonymous, IN (2010 Kia Soul)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"I liked that my seats were not the type that made the car overly kid-like. though there were not a lot of choices the hounds-tooth was a good substitute,"

Anonymous, PA (2010 Kia Soul)

"I've ridden in both front and back, front is acceptable, back is Very bouncy. Back seat is right over the rear axle."

Anonymous, OR (2010 Kia Soul)

"If there was one thing I would change in my Kia Soul, it would be less road noise"

Anonymous, WA (2010 Kia Soul)

"Its a good value for the money. It was a brand new car, with long warranty, and decent features for the price. It is a small, hip car, but the gas mileage is middling for that size of a vehicle. The seats are uncomfortable, and will cause back pain in most people. and climate control is not very good, especially the cooling."

Anonymous, MD (2010 Kia Soul)

"Back seats roomy. Great headroom. Excellent designer"

JEFF W., KS (2010 Kia Soul)

"Rides quite rough on rougher roads and can be a little harder to handle. On smooth roads...fine."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Kia Soul)

"Seats are incredibly comfortable and roomy (I'm 5'10"). Climate control is adequate for a 7-year old car. Noise is a little higher than I expected it would be, but it's fine and doesn't detract much from my overall satisfaction."

Anonymous, HI (2010 Kia Soul)

"The Kia is comfortable. The car is quick to speed up. You feel the road, but it's not really bad. It is a solid little car."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"Seats very comfortable. Ride very rough."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Kia Soul)

"The seats are very stiff. We would never take this car on a trip of longer than a couple of hours. The noise level coming from the road is also high."

Anonymous, PA (2010 Kia Soul)

"Seats are a little stiff, could also use a bit more leg room."

Anonymous, VA (2010 Kia Soul)

"You get what you pay for."

Charles C., NC (2010 Kia Soul)

"Despite being a small car, it has a surprisingly high seating position with firm, supportive front seats."

George C., QC (2010 Kia Soul)

"This car just fits me and I love everything about it. The headroom is good for even a man over 6’. The back seat has plenty of room for even a large or tall person. It is so easy to get in and out of the car. It rides beautifully on the highway but can be a bit bumpy on rough roads. There is some road noise at times I’m told but I don’t notice it. You can turn on a dime, it holds the road well, and takes curves unbelievably well. Overall it is a pleasure to drive short distances in town or long distances across country. I have made several trips of 3000 miles at a time without being fatigued. It gets about 36 mph on the open road and rides smoothly on freeways"

Edie U., TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"Road noise is loud in the Kia Soul. The radio has to be turned up loud to hear it. It's middling comfortable to drive. the seats could be more comfortable."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"It is comfortable."

Dan C., AZ (2010 Kia Soul)

"Ease of entry and exit. This car fits me. I don’t have to contort my body to fit into this car."

Rollin R., OH (2010 Kia Soul)

"Easy to enter and exit. good driving visibility. Tires on my vehicle a too noisy. Hoping that next set will be quieter."

Bob W., TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"Small car, but find it very easy to get in and out of. Have problems of entry in most vehicles, but disappointed that CR does not make an issue of this problem in most of today's cars!"

Joseph G., OH (2010 Kia Soul)

"I feel it has been good value for money, driven for over 5 years very reliable. Bought stick shift because acceleration is poor."

THOMAS G., GA (2010 Kia Soul)

Anonymous, BC (2010 Kia Soul)

John R., MI (2010 Kia Soul)

"This eche was better than I expected."

Charles C., NC (2010 Kia Soul)

"It is a good little commute car. Easy to park in tight parking spots. Good little car for the price"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Kia Soul)

"Very Reliable. In 8 years, I've replaced the battery once. There have been no equipment issues or failures. The exterior still looks stylish. The interior is roomy. All this for under $20K means good value to me."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Kia Soul)

"The 2010 Kia Soul we have is the limited sport edition in special denim blue paint with a big white racing stripe, 18" white wheels with low profile tires(which have a tendency to blow out sidewalls in city potholes), white mirrors, a rear spoiler and an interior mood light system that is synced with the stereo. It is a great little car to look at. The ride is rough but it corners like a little demon. It is very noisy inside on the highway. The mpg is unsatisfactory for a small 4 cylinder. The stereo has a lot of speakers but they are of poor quality. The carpets are thin and cheap as is the upholstery. The braking system is not great and I have had to replace the discs and rotors 2x in 43500 miles. This is not a good car to drive in the snow. In spite of the negatives I think it was a good buy and has given me good service since purchased in 2009."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Kia Soul)

"Mine was part of the 1st generation / 1st wave of Souls when they were initially released in the U.S. It's a solid car with a very good sound system. I kind of look at my first generation Soul as a previous generation probably looked at the wave of VW Beetles in the 60s, solidly build, reliable and very utilitarian. I bought my Soul in mid-2009 when gas prices were going through the roof and my 'premium' drinking SAAB (with 185k miles) was becoming expensive to repair. My 11 year old daughter saw the Soul and said she really liked the look. I liked the price and the 10 year / 100k warranty. I thought, why not drive it for 5 years and then hand the keys over to my kid when she turns 16 - happily, everything worked as planned. This car is a great value! Has 128k miles on it, still drives well and has cost me well below average to maintain. My one complaint is there is a lot of road noise which, I'm guessing, explains why Kia equips it with a very good sound system. To mitigate this noise I would suggest investing in the best quality / quietest tires available - I bought cheap the first time I had to replace the tires and regretted it for the next few years."

Scott W., NC (2010 Kia Soul)

"Our Soul! is reliable."

Dan C., AZ (2010 Kia Soul)

"The value for this car was extremely good. The value trickled down even to our insurance cost. When I called to get quotes on the Kia Soul and another make and model we were looking at the Kia Soul came back much lower. Given that we've had the car now for 7 years, that is significant savings. When I asked the insurer why the Soul was a lower cost to insure versus the other make and model, the insurer told me flat out "parts from South Korea are less expensive than parts from Japan.""

Michael F., PA (2010 Kia Soul)

"A lot of great safety and value for the price paid!"

Darrell T., CA (2010 Kia Soul)

"The vehicle is easy to get in and out of; when back seats are down, there is ample space for items; back seating is comfortable for adults; easy to maneuver and park."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Kia Soul)

"The Soul fits my wife needs for hauling mulch et al as well as sitting her a bit higher than her previous VW."

Charles C., NC (2010 Kia Soul)

"A lot of space for passengers. Easy entry and exit. Easy parking because of size."

Mark R., MD (2010 Kia Soul)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I love my Kia Soul, wish I had got it years ago. Rides smooth, I Can see better all around, lots of room. I've only had it 6 days and I'm out driving everyday."

JUDY V., SK (2010 Kia Soul)

"Enjoy the big, open area inside the car."

Anonymous, WA (2010 Kia Soul)

"I think this is even better on newer models. I love the way I ride up above the low slung other cars on the road. I even like the boxy look! And the paint is still perfect, a good metallic tint that wears well."

DENA K., WA (2010 Kia Soul)
