For years, the Lexus ES excelled at being comfortable and luxurious, pampering rather than sporty. But Lexus modified that formula by trying to create a more engaging driving experience. And the overall result is a less satisfying upscale sedan. The ES still provides a comfy, quiet interior, gets good fuel economy, and is very reliable.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“The acceleration and handling is so much better on this ES than my LS it is amazing. It makes it more fun to drive and feels very sporty driving.”

GREG E., TX (2016 Lexus ES)

“See previous box. Easy handling; sufficient acceleration; excellent (front) seating room and position.”

RICHARD D., CA (2016 Lexus ES)

“Tech features are complicated and owner's manual not easy to use to explain these.”

Anonymous, CT (2016 Lexus ES)

“The safety features abound. Blind spot illumination in side mirrors, cruise control that slows down if too close to car in front to full stop if needed. Steering wheel vibration if line on lane is entered or crossed without signal. Very comfortable car with good acceleration, even in E mode on this hybrid that gets between 35-40 mpg. Two other modes for faster performance.”

NORMAN C., WI (2016 Lexus ES)

“The acceleration with this hybrid is much better then I expected. When I need more power, I get it. The car is a wonderful riding and handling vehicle.”

JAMES L., CT (2016 Lexus ES)

“When driving about 30 mph it seems like the transmission is frequently shifting”

WILLIAM P., CA (2016 Lexus ES)

“very smooth”

JAN L., MN (2016 Lexus ES)

“I have leased several Lexus ES cars over the years and this one feels tighter and more responsive than any of the previous ones.”

J C., FL (2016 Lexus ES)

“Acceleration is pretty good for a hybrid but handling I would say is poor to the point of feeling insecure at times”

Anonymous, MI (2016 Lexus ES)

“Luxurious”

Anonymous, NJ (2016 Lexus ES)

“good fuel efficiency”

Anonymous, QC (2016 Lexus ES)

“Good power - good steering feel.”

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“We purchased this vehicle based on noise level and creature comforts. We are notdissapointed”

RON H., FL (2016 Lexus ES)

“Climate control seats are only fair. Don't get warm enough and the cooling is almost impossible to feel. Ride, road noise, and seat comfort is outstanding.”

KENNETH M., TX (2016 Lexus ES)

“Highest seat setting isn't as high as I'd like.”

Anonymous, GA (2016 Lexus ES)

“Seats are not at all comfortable. I own 6 cars and this is definitely the most uncomfortable of all. I am of small stature and would not buy this car again if I had know how uncomfortable the seats are.”

JOHN V., MN (2016 Lexus ES)

“The seats are hard and uncomfortable on a long drive.”

Anonymous, HI (2016 Lexus ES)

“The seats are very nice. Firm yet comfortable. It's a very comfortable car.”

“everything”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Lexus ES)

Anonymous, TX (2016 Lexus ES)

“Seat comfort is not what it should be for this class, most evident on trips longer than 30 minutes”

Anonymous, MI (2016 Lexus ES)

“Incredibly quiet and smooth ride”

Anonymous, NC (2016 Lexus ES)

“Anyone who rides in my car expresses how smooth the ride is and how quiet.”

PEGGY T., IL (2016 Lexus ES)

“At our age, sometimes it is difficult to access a sedan. Prefer a SUV,”

DANIEL M., SC (2016 Lexus ES)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Exceptional ride and reliability”

Anonymous, CT (2016 Lexus ES)

“The MPG stated has never been achieved. They advertised 40 MPG, Most I have ever got was 33. Does not seem fair they can do that”

GEORGE W., CA (2016 Lexus ES)

“You get a very quiet, high quality vehicle that pollutes less than others. Ownership costs are very low especially in the first years.”

Anonymous, ON (2016 Lexus ES)

“Amazing technology in this car that far exceeded my last LS. Also amazing acceleration and handling. This car was so good I chose it over getting another LS (which I loved). I just wish it was a quite inside as an LS.”

GREG E., TX (2016 Lexus ES)

“wind noise and strange cvt performance”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Lexus ES)

How it looks inside and out

ELI K., CA (2016 Lexus ES)

“Wide door pillars, combined with very large headrests, tend to restrict vision to the rear at other that 90 degree intersections.”

Anonymous, MA (2016 Lexus ES)

“The redesign of 2016 was well-worth the wait. It's much more stylish, definitive and aggressive-looking. As should be from the Toyota Avalon "sister" car.”
