For years, the Lexus ES excelled at being comfortable and luxurious, pampering rather than sporty. But Lexus modified that formula by trying to create a more engaging driving experience. And the overall result is a less satisfying upscale sedan. The ES still provides a comfy, quiet interior, gets good fuel economy, and is very reliable.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Gary B., FL (2017 Lexus ES)

"It has a very firm yet comfortable ride. it is quiet and accelerates well. It handles like a dream and is easy to drive."

Michael J., PA (2017 Lexus ES)

"This car has outstanding acceleration, especially in the power mode. The mpg is better than our Camry hybrid. I test drove a variety of Lexus's, and found this to one to be the most engaging for overall driving experience, gas mileage, and price combination. In fact, I test drove all kinds of other vehicles from other manufacturers and found none equal."

Martin H., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

Anonymous, NV (2017 Lexus ES)

Patrick W., FL (2017 Lexus ES)

"Very comfortable Adequate power Smooth handling Reasonable gas mileage--lots of stop and go."

Anonymous, IN (2017 Lexus ES)

"Shift stick is not smooth, especially going from park to drive."

"Very smooth, turns on a dime, comfortable. Once again none of my cars have been hybrids, that includes the 2017. Gas. Wouldn't own a hybrid."

Roberta C., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Engine is a beaut! Good acceleration from a stop and at speed...and good handling...very good takes!"

Theodore B., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"I really like the Auto high beam. I like the switch and ability to go from economy to sport mode. I do not use the in the lane notification that shakes the steering wheel when driving out of my lane"

Anonymous, GA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Very smooth transmission, good acceleration and braking is generally linear and predictable. Could have less roll and pitch, with a bit quicker steering responsiveness. Please get rid of the wood on steering wheel, or supply me with special driving gloves for a typical Alabama summer! Why offer heated steering wheel if the real need is a cooled steering wheel?"

Anonymous, AL (2017 Lexus ES)

"Surprisingly poor acceleration in Eco mode."

"Excellent performance"

Selva S., FL (2017 Lexus ES)

Anonymous, MO (2017 Lexus ES)

"It's a Lexus. They are KNOWN for comfort! The car is very quiet inside, and 8 months in to ownership, it still smells new. The seats are very soft. The ride is quite. The seats heat and cool quickly. Things I'd like to change: make the WHOLE steering wheel heated rather than just a few spots where the designers expect us to grab."

Bronson B., GA (2017 Lexus ES)

"It silky smooth, quiet, powerful and gets great mileage. I get 32 mpg on highway."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Lexus ES)

Bronson B., GA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Lexus very comfortable."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Lexus ES)

Anonymous, CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Very quite smooth ride"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Lexus ES)

"With the heated and ventilated seats I find the backseat too have very little leg room. I am 6'3 and when I try to sit in the back seat I need to put my feet under the seats but because of the ventilation and heating systems I am unable to do that. It makes for a very uncomfortable ride for long periods."

"comfortable seats, low noise levels, smooth ride"

Sally P., OH (2017 Lexus ES)

"Seats are hard. Uncomfortable"

Michael G., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Extremely comfortable ride. It is a major reason that I bought this car and other Lexus's before it."

Anonymous, SC (2017 Lexus ES)

"Occasionally, seat positioning when entering does not more the seat nor steering wheel into position. Passenger seat belt buckle rattles against the door post."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Lexus ES)

"This is my 2nd ES 350. I find the seats to be extremely comfortable and supportive. The noise level inside the cabin is very low and steering feedback is not one of its attributes. However, the vehicle is very comfortable and competent in all aspects."

Anonymous, MO (2017 Lexus ES)

"Very little noise and extremely comfortable."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Lexus ES)

"the road noise on driver's side is prominent and annoying; I imagine this exists because there is no frame around the window -- a terrible feature in my opinion. of course this is my wife's car and she doesn't notice; I do when I drive it."

Kenneth P., TX (2017 Lexus ES)

"Very quiet interior, excellent ride, seats comfortable but would have preferred somewhat longer seat cushion."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Lexus ES)

"Value"

Debbie L., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"This may be the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Seats are very comfortable, ride is almost cushy (at the price of some precision in handling)"

Robert M., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Too much wind noise at 60mph"

Joseph P., FL (2017 Lexus ES)

"smooth quiet ride"

William D., OH (2017 Lexus ES)

"Noisey ride but the seats are very comfortable"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Lexus ES)

"Comfortable front seats, but not as supportive as those in "sportier" models (such as my old CT-200). The ride is very "floaty" (picture 1970's domestic sedans), but I still feel moderate bumps in the road somewhat sharply; sort of the worst of both worlds! Certain rough/uneven road surfaces cause resonances from the rear of the vehicle that sound like vibrating plywood. I have experienced a harsh suspension "bump" (once). It was rather jarring (sort of like the car did a belly flop!) It happened when accelerating on a rough road surface to make a light and may be associated with normal traction control behavior. Otherwise, very quiet ride with no hint of wind noise. Can barely hear emergency vehicles, so have to be diligent! Car feels solid, but not agile. Disclaimer, the car was exposed in close proximity to a fully involved vehicle fire when it was only 10 days old. The high temperatures melted nearly all the exterior plastics, including tail lights, the bumper cover, door handles, window trim, rear view mirror, etc. on the rear and passenger side of the vehicle. Approximately 30% of the paint was singed and required re painting. The insurance company chose to repair it, so it has undergone significant disassembly, inspection and replacement procedures that may have influenced its performance relative to other ES-300h's. That is to say, my experiences with it may be unique!"

Scott P., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Extremely hard seat. Most uncomfortable seat I have ever had in any type vehicle."

Anonymous, IN (2017 Lexus ES)

Anonymous, CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"This car is my fourth Lexus, same color, same model. I love everything about this car, which is why I'm a repeat owner. The ride is smooth and comfortable. It's safe. Decent mileage (by the way) this is not, nor has it ever been, a hybrid. Don't know where that came from. Drove Mercedes autos in the past, but they became unreliable. The Lexus ES 350 is extremely reliable; every one of the four. If I want to keep this car for the rest of my life, it'll be reliable to the end."

Roberta C., CA (2017 Lexus ES)

"Bought the car loaded at the end of the season. iT WAS SLIGHTLY BELOW THE EXPECTED CR PRICE"
