This flagship of Toyota's luxury division was redesigned and renamed for 2001. A revamped 290-hp, 4.3-liter V8 led to a name change from LS400 to LS430. The old car was one of the smoothest and quietest made, and the updated version is not only quicker but it handles slightly better. Even so, the LS430 remains less agile than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Anonymous, AL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Acceleraton is very good and the car handles very well. On curves it is very responsive."

Anonymous, CA (2002 Lexus LS)

"This car still has a lot of get up and go. When I really accelerate, especially entering a freeway, I know I can move quickly out of someone’s way"

Anita F., CA (2002 Lexus LS)

"Both the acceleration and handling remain excellent in spite of the cars age."

Anonymous, IL (2002 Lexus LS)

"This car is not good in the road sense department, requiring too many steering inputs to keep in lane, but still far better than the Mazda CX-5. The engine is powerful and auto trans pretty good, but toe it too deeply and it downshift to lowest gear with lots of roar and little acceleration."

Anonymous, FL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Very safe."

Anonymous, GA (2002 Lexus LS)

"It can pass another vehicle very quickly which is a great safety feature. The handling is smooth and effortless."

Anonymous, CO (2002 Lexus LS)

"getting on a freeway- 40 to 75 very fast and safe."

R L., CA (2002 Lexus LS)

Martin B., IL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Excellent acceleration and luxury ride"

Anonymous, TX (2002 Lexus LS)

"There is a hesitation in the engine when accelerating from around second to third gear. It's annoying, but not dangerous. I've taken it to the Lexus dealership several times, but they say they cannot fix it."

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"All great"

Anonymous, CA (2002 Lexus LS)

"The run flat tires give this car a very harsh ride. They are almost mandatory due to hard top convertible feature and lack of trunk space."

Anonymous, IL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Most dependable for a 16 year old car. I love the way it performs"

Anonymous, IL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Seats are comfortable, ride is smooth and noise level is very low."

Anonymous, SC (2002 Lexus LS)

"This car is supremely comfortable and quiet running down the road. The perforated leather seats blow warm or cool air to add driving comfort. The ride is a bit too soft but nice. It is not real good in the road sense department either, requiring some frequent herding to keep it in lane."

Anonymous, FL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Very quiet ride. Seat comfort is great. Very good AC. Lots of leg room and spacious trunk."

Anonymous, CA (2002 Lexus LS)

"Seats provide good comfort and support and the car is very quiet with a nice smooth ride"

Anonymous, VA (2002 Lexus LS)

"The gold standard in comfortable and quiet ride. Have not been tempted to "upgrade" to LS460 nor to LS500."

Douglas L., CA (2002 Lexus LS)

"During cold weather the heated seats are wonderful. Passengers have always commented how comfortable and quiet, along with smooth riding."

Anita F., CA (2002 Lexus LS)

"Seats are very comfortable, noise is very muted and ride is sublime."

Anonymous, CO (2002 Lexus LS)

"Smooth and vary quiet ride"

Anonymous, AL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Very responsive; quiet; excellent ride"

Anonymous, OR (2002 Lexus LS)

"The system allows 2 drivers to have preset driver seat to meet 2 different people comforts."

William S., FL (2002 Lexus LS)

"This car is a roadster, rather than a true sports car. It is beautifully appointed with comfortable front seats. The run-flat tires make for a harsher ride than is desirable."

Martin B., IL (2002 Lexus LS)

"Exceptionally comfortable, good legroom, quiet, smooth ride"

Michael O., TX (2002 Lexus LS)

"The LS series defines excellence in comfort and longevity."
