The LS430 is one of the best-scoring luxury sedans we've tested. The cabin is very quiet and comfortable and the controls are intuitive to use. The powertrain is especially refined. The rear-seat area is roomy and very well equipped, especially compared to others in this class. Handling is sound. Overall, the LS430 exhibits a plush, luxurious driving experience, but lacks the exciting feel of a sports sedan -- which it is not.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

"I personally think this is the best production luxury car ever sold in the USA (It was produced in Japan for an American market). Our 2003 LS still looks like new and has only 81,000 miles. It also rides and drives like a nearly new car. It has never had any issues related to manufacture, wear and tear and age."

- E., GA (2003 Lexus LS)

"This car has power that I really enjoy."

Daniel O., CA (2003 Lexus LS)

"Strong acceleration. Handling is on comfort soft side. All things considered a good trade off between comfort especially on rough roads and good road manners."

Peter B., CT (2003 Lexus LS)

"It is smooth and powerful, getting impressive fuels economy on the highway. It drives taught like a smaller car."

Nathan P., WA (2003 Lexus LS)

"This car will go when you want or need it to. Accelerates well and handles well for a big car."

Joseph Z., TX (2003 Lexus LS)

Daniel O., CA (2003 Lexus LS)

"Large comfortable seats and roominess"

Doyle M., SC (2003 Lexus LS)

"This is a 15-yr-old vehicle that rivals many new cars in smoothness and quietness. The seat can be customized to anyone."

Nathan P., WA (2003 Lexus LS)

"270000 miles and it is still quiet and smooth"

Brandon H., NV (2003 Lexus LS)

"Most dependable and comfortable vehicle owned over 50 years. Reliability is phenomenal. Superior in most respects to recent luxury autos. And we’ve driven most of them ! Only significant expense was replacing the exhaust system - a common repair after 15 years or so. Subsequent LS sedans are both less comfortable and less reliable. After. 15 years fit and finish still look new. Our favorite vacation auto with MPG of 25 or so."

Peter B., CT (2003 Lexus LS)

"Really has a nice ride; quiet, smooth, handles really well"

Anonymous, OH (2003 Lexus LS)

"Seats are vented and cool and heat very quickly.Hardly any noise and a ride to enjoy."

Anonymous, MD (2003 Lexus LS)

"just a good solid comfortable ride"

Richard P., OK (2003 Lexus LS)

"After all this time, ride remains near excellent, seats are comfortable, and noise is not excessive"

Anonymous, MD (2003 Lexus LS)

"We've had the Lexus for over 14 years now and for the first 12 years at least it's been a very comfortable and noiseless ride. Now it's a bit noisy, still bearable and not unlike other cars."

Anonymous, VA (2003 Lexus LS)

"Incredibly comfortable and quiet."

Anonymous, NC (2003 Lexus LS)

"Fourteen years later this car still rides like a dream, with great acceleration. I'm going to keep it at least another seven to eight years."

Richard P., CA (2003 Lexus LS)

"The ride is very good and the car is very quiet. But the seats have broken down, which makes them somewhat uncomfortable. And the cabin is tight, not much room."

Anonymous, OK (2003 Lexus LS)

"This is the best car I have ever owned. Comfortable over long distances, quiet and a smooth ride."

Joseph Z., TX (2003 Lexus LS)
