The Mazda3 is among the most well-rounded models in the small car category. It is quieter, rides more comfortably, and is more agile and fuel efficient than its Protegé predeccesor. Moreover, it returned very impressive fuel economy, especially for a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle with an automatic transmission. The Madza3's very good interior quality stands out in a category where many vehicles are cheaply finished.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"I love the turning radius. When I was working, I had to visit many places I was unfamiliar with and when I over shot a destination I had to make a lot of u-turns. This car was great."

Anonymous, OH (2009 Mazda 3)

"Acceleration isn't what it should be when the air conditioner is on."

DEBRA M., MA (2009 Mazda 3)

"It's a speed3 so it's a nice sleeper car."

BRYAN S., MN (2009 Mazda 3)

"I was run off the road in a road construction zone while going about 40 mph, which was the limit. My right front wheel hit the edge of the asphalt which had a 3 inch drop, causing the tire to blow. It was a new tire. I was stuck in a strange town and spent the day trying to get a tire replaced. The service tech had to go to another town to find the correct size. It would be nice if this car could handle a larger or sturdier tire than what is recommended."

CARLA B., TX (2009 Mazda 3)

"I own the Mazdaspeed3 (not listed in your drop downs) and I love the handling, acceleration and the general super sports car feel. It is so much more than standard hatchback. I refer to the car as a Mazdarati."

ARTHUR K., AZ (2009 Mazda 3)

"I'm amazed at the acceleration of a 4 cyl. engine in this car. We live in the mountains and the handling, especially on curves is incredible. It really hugs the road, doesn't lean. I love this car."

WENDY B., NC (2009 Mazda 3)

"It has much more acceleration power than other cars in its class."

RICHARD T., UT (2009 Mazda 3)

"Acceleration and handling is very good ."

JOHN S., ON (2009 Mazda 3)

"The Mazda 3 has quick sporty handling and seems to have good grip for the price."

Anonymous, KY (2009 Mazda 3)

"Great pickup, hugs road."

SANDRA S., WI (2009 Mazda 3)

"It's a fun car to drive, even after 7 years, it's still a blast."

MARK V., NC (2009 Mazda 3)

What Owners Say

"The best car I've ever owned in terms of performance and reliability for the money."

MARK V., NC (2009 Mazda 3)

"On my drive to California I got 39 mpg. Mind you, all highway driving, but it is still impressive for a 2009 model."

DAVID T., ID (2009 Mazda 3)

"Car Mazda runs fine I have a problem with the engine running smooth it has a hik up now and than the check engine light come on and it comes and goes the PCM needs to be replaced but the cost makes it not worth changing the problem isn't that major its just something I learned to live with"

CHARLES M., FL (2009 Mazda 3)

"The Mazda 3 was an amazing. I paid $18k and got 0% financing for five years. The car looks and drive as good today as it did when it was brand new. It's still a head turned and has been extremely reliable. I would definitely buy this car again."

TIM M., NC (2009 Mazda 3)

"NOT MY DREAM CAR, BUT THE VALUE OF THE CAR IS COMMISERATE WITH PRODUCT SUPPLIED. NOT EXPENSIVE TO KEEP ON ROAD, REPAIRS ARE NOW JUST ON PARTS WEARING OUT AS THEY AGE. BETTER INSURANCE RATES THAN ON OTHER CARS IN THIS CLASS"
