The Mazda6 has several strong attributes, including responsive handling, excellent brakes, a reasonably spacious and comfortable interior -- and quick acceleration in the V6 version. But overall, the Mazda6 remains a notch below some competing models. The automatic transmission lacks smoothness and responsivness, plus the 41-foot turning circle hampers tight maneuvering.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Excellent handling, braking and acceleration. Bulletproof reliability"

Anonymous, WA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Good handling and control of this vehicle"

Anonymous, MA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Pretty tight driving feel for a station wagon. Love the automatic transmission that you can use like a manual minus the clutch. Goes where you point it, great handling. Snarly exhaust note at high revs. Love it."

Wayne K., BC (2006 Mazda 6)

"It's a 2 door pickup Silverado that was almost fully restored when I bought it 3 years ago,so I can't say much except that I am very happy with it...Cab is tight,NO rattles, squeaks, or body noise...Tight suspension, fresh engine, transmission, differential(limited slip),front suspension,etc.,etc....Beefed up suspension all around, slight lift kit and great interior..."

John R., CA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Zoom, Zoom"

Anonymous, FL (2006 Mazda 6)

"5 speed manual still up to the job."

D G., ON (2006 Mazda 6)

"Zoom Zoom...for real"

Daniel M., MN (2006 Mazda 6)

"Good driving sporty"

Anonymous, ON (2006 Mazda 6)

"Clumsy handling, wide turning circle, awkward to park. Transmission failed, replaced under warranty. Required bodywork/repaint to repair rust damage."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Mazda 6)

"i am just overll happy about this car, other than the transmission rework, apparently it was a known issue. but my car fell out of warranty (it would have been covered by mileage, but not by time, since it sat in the garage for the first 6 years of its life)."

TERRY S., CA (2006 Mazda 6)

"For a car with great handling, the turning radius is awful! Also gets very poor mileage for a car with very mediocre acceleration."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Bought my 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 solely for the performance I am a motorhead, and love performance vehicles in general. Looked very closely at the Subaru WRX STi, but bought the Mazdaspeed 6 because it was a larger sedan (great rear seat leg room), and for the wonderful direct injected turbocharged and inter-cooled Mazda MZR engine...coupled to a fantastic 6-speed manual...and all-wheel-drive (and a commercial for the Mazdaspeed 6 featuring professional racer Randy Pobst...who I later me"

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Excessive road noise."

Stanley J., CA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Hard to get in. Ride too low to floor. I need to sit up more than is allowed."

F O., UT (2006 Mazda 6)

"The comfort of the seats and the ride feel are impressive in that they are better than my recently purchased 2017 BMW 3 series wagon which cost more than twice the price of the Mazda."

Anonymous, MN (2006 Mazda 6)

"still relatively quiet."

D G., ON (2006 Mazda 6)

"The seatbelt is hard to reach to put on, and I can't reach the trunk release with it on."

ROGER B., NM (2006 Mazda 6)

"Road noise can be loud, depending on type of pavement."

SPAIN G., WA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Good: love automatic climate control. Bad: somewhat harsh ride which is to be expected in a sporty vehicle, seats do not have a lot of side support which can be problematic when driving down a twisty road or cloverleaf."

Anonymous, OH (2006 Mazda 6)

"Seats are well supported and bolstered even after 10 years and 185000 miles, climate and radio are intuitive and easy to use and include large dials which are simple to operate tactically and are visually appealing. The heads up radio/climate display is still easy to glance at while driving. Noise could be better but it is tolerable."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Mazda 6)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"This car looks good and runs great. It has never had a major repair and is ultra reliable."

Anonymous, CT (2006 Mazda 6)

"great car for the relatively low price paid."

Phil M., NC (2006 Mazda 6)

"The car is 12 years old, running well with low maintenance costs. That is very good value."

Harold F., QC (2006 Mazda 6)

"As a wagon, I believe the 2006 Mazda 6 that we own is inherently excellent value. Seating and storage space is almost as good as a minivan, but a car is much more fun to drive."

JEFFREY D., CA (2006 Mazda 6)

"Has required very few repairs, the cost of ownership has been phenomenal. All options were checked for mine and I got it used for an excellent price with low mileage. It saved me thousands being so reliable and I never wanted for more options"

Anonymous, CA (2006 Mazda 6)

"I purchased the car as a Mazda Certified used car, less than two years old, for $10,000 less than MSPR. It was a steal. The other than early failure of front wheel bearings, the car has been exceedingly reliable and is still a blast to drive. My only gripes with it (at 10 years old now) are mediocre fuel economy (by today's standards) and limited entertainment options (not even an audio line input)."

Anonymous, OH (2006 Mazda 6)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"i own an '06 Sportwagon, and i can't believe how many people have told me they'd kill to have the fold flat seats, cargo space, and practicality in a sexy good looking vehicle that is fun to drive. For many the cx-5 and cx-3 don't cut it and many wish mazda still imported a sport wagon for the Canadian market."

WAYNE K., BC (2006 Mazda 6)

"Gorgeous exterior and somewhat of a sleeper. Interior is okay for 2006. Some buttons are somewhat difficult to reach. Interior is holding up very well."
