The Miata is a fun-to-drive, low-slung little roadster, with pinpoint handling, instant power delivery, and a crisp manual gearbox. Excellent fuel economy is an extra bonus. While it remains very tight, the cabin has grown a little more livable over the years. The ride is surprisingly tolerable, but cabin noise can grow wearying on long cruises.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

“Although not as fast off the line as my old RX7, this does well and I feel as though I could drive circles around other cars while traveling down the highway.”

“Best handling sports car in this price range.”

Anonymous, OR (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Accelerates verey well; handling is tight and precise. It's a plwasure to drive.”

LOIS T., AZ (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“There are a lot of ways I could describe the handling on the Miata... precise, sure footed, nimble, etc., But the best way is just to say it is fun! This car is a joy to drive.”

TRACY R., WV (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Steering, cornering, and responsiveness all good.”

SCOTT M., CA (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Very quick and nimble.”

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“The power retractable hardtop is wonderful. It works up or down in 14 seconds, and when up (in the blazing Arizona sun) it keeps the interior much cooler than a typical "ragtop" convertible. Mazda is making a mistake - I believe - with their newest design that has eliminated the fully retractable top. I they would do well to interview all of the current owners of this style, and I believe you will find consensus that they have walked away from perfection in their pursuit of newer styling.”

FRED R., AZ (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“This is a great roadster. The seats are very comfortable in a firm way”

Anonymous, IN (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Wish it had adjustable lumbar support and a fully adjustable passenger seat,”

MICHAEL J., UT (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“The Mazda is a superb vehicle to drive up to 200 miles or so. Longar distances become more tireing.”

ROBERT M., NY (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“It's a two seater and small. What else could on say.”

ALAN C., NY (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Sun visors do not rotate to the left or right, merely up and down. However, the hinge for up/down rotation is on the wrong edge of the sun visor, minimizing its usefulness when the top is down.”

MARC K., CA (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“seat belts do not adjust enough for a small person. They go across the neck.”

CHARA M., FL (2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata)
