Since 1990, Mazda took the idea of the charmingly eccentric British roadster and infused it with Japanese reliability. By remaining true to its nature of fun and affordable performance, the Miata has thrilled and inspired hundreds of thousands of buyers, from money-conscious workaday drivers to weekend racers.

What Owners Say

"The 2016 Mazda is my third Miata and the most fun to drive of all. It is the best handling inexpensive sports car on the market."

Paul G., VA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"quick enough and fun secure handling"

Mitchell S., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It's one of the most engaging and visceral driving experiences out there."

Christopher L., MN (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Effortless acceleration and a thrill in the corners. Not a car for the drag strip but rather a car for a long winding road. Like a 155hp go cart."

Al P., NJ (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Wind on your head and go kart driving.Fun ,fun ,fun"

Jean D., QC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"I love this car. I started driving in the 1960s and always wanted a British sports car. A friend had a 1959 MGA convertible. That car had no heat, no radio, no glass side or rear windows. My MX-5 besides looking great, it has everything that MGA never had but still has the fun of a sports car. I read about the new MX-5 for almost a year before I went to look at this at the dealer. I had to give back my VW Jetta TDI after VW's deception regarding the clean diesel. The MX-5 is not a practical fo..."

Gerard S., WA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very good on acceleration and handling."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"A superb all-round driving experience. Simply wonderful."

Anonymous, MD (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It's fun to drive. The handling is very tight and the manual transmission makes the vehicle even more fun to drive."

N H., AZ (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The Miata is fun to drive, especially if you are a fan of roadsters as I am. Acceleration is quick, it turns on a dime, and braking is excellent. The small cabin has everything at your fingertips (excluding the CD player), and the convertible soft top goes up or down in seconds. If you are looking for reasonably priced fun and reliability, and if you can live with the limited storage space and sporty (aka bumpy) ride, the Miata is the car to buy!"

R S., OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Fantastic handling. Lots of torque, even at low rpm."

Anonymous, OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Great drive. Could be more responsive/revvy (vs my 1999 Miata)"

Andreas G., TX (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Terrific fun to drive"

Roy W., HI (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"As expected, the handling, acceleration, brakes and suspension provide an outstanding level of overall performance."

Mark V., NY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Fun to drive"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"My second Miata. What driving is all about. Puts a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. Responsive, fun."

Anonymous, AL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Cornering is better than our previous MX-5. The engine is higher torque that requires less gear shifting. I also don't have to listen to higher rpms of the earlier MX-5s."

Anonymous, KY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The car sticks to the road like a slot car yet still rides fairly comfortably - for a roadster."

Duane B., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The car, though not a muscle car, is very quick and agile. Twisting country roads bring out the best in this auto."

Al P., NJ (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It is an intuitive and great car to drive. My last roadster was a first year 2000 Honda S2000. That car had an engine with limited low end torque which had to be revved high for a good experience. The Miata has a even power band with good low end torque combined with its very light weight so that it can be shifted early without compromising the experience. Also with its light weight it is great to toss into corners even in the City. It is a fun car to drive at low speeds. As they say it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow."

Barbara D., NY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Superb handling - corners like it is on rails. Quick and agile car."

Robert Y., NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"A true sports car in all ways. Fun to drive."

Charles D., NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"155 hp engine doesn't sound like much but in a car this small and light it gets the job done. This car is built for the driver in all of us that enjoy driving. It makes you find the back roads with the most curves."

Ellen A., MD (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Fun to drive. Listening to the exhaust and shifting gears."

Cheryl J., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Ample power! Great handling ! Great looks !"

Richard F., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It performs exactly the way I want it to. I have no suggestions for improvement."

Harold M., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Best handling car I have had. Feels like a more expensive car than it is"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Sports car handling"

J G., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It handles amazing, though its acceleration at slow speeds is poor due to the gear ratio in the lower gears."

Thomas C., TN (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"My Mazda is a 2 lane road machine. It chews up highway with curvy roads and is always fun to drive."

Anonymous, OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Have Club version. It handles great but could use wider tires and stronger sway bars. Acceleration is enough for around town."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"What a car! This car is fast, handles great and is comfortable."

Roger V., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"very stable, very easy to get used to.you would have to do something very foolish to lose control of this car."

Ernest-Audrey D., NY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Handling"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Superb sports car experience. Reacts right away to driver input. Driver is in touch with the road."

John L., NV (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"looks, handling, gas mileage."

Anonymous, VA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Wow, Zoom Zoom is real, this feels like it is on rails."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Manual transmission is not smooth. Very notchy in second and third gear. Need to be very methodical when shifting, can not shift quickly."

Anonymous, OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Just fun to drive. Exhilarating."

John F., NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"My commute involves canyons and hills. Driving to and from work in the MX5 is a highlight of my day."

Rick C., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"This is one of the most fun car to drive. You don't even have to go fast to have fun! We also own Alfa 4C & Lotus Elise and I'm never sorry to be driving the MX-5 over these other cars. Only complaint is the body roll. It's not terrible, I'd compare it to sort of like swaying back and forth I'm a very controlled manner like you are skiing (let the car find its spot and it digs in through corners). I'm sure this also makes everyday driving on bumpy rides tolerable, but this is probably the only thing that makes me wish I had taken the 4C or Elise for the drive."

Anonymous, TX (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"extremely satisfying; this is my 4th Miata; I've had 1 from each of the 4 generations and this is the best by far!"

Bryan C., PA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Acceleration and handling is very good."

J R., TX (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"A pleasure to drive with a wonderful gearbox. Good handling and acceleration."

"Simply a delightful little car"

Tryg E., AK (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Because the car is light it accelerates very peppy and the handling is like driving a gokart... close to the ground, amazing turning radius, corners like it's on rails and instant response. You feel the road, but in a good way."

Anonymous, OR (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Dana Y., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The handleing"

William A., OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very sharp, communicative steering. Excellent shifter with very positive feel. Strong brakes. The Miata feels very light and can readily be tossed through corners yet remains sure footed and feel very confident."

Marty D., WI (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Acceleration is good. Handling is excellent."

Anonymous, IN (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It gives me incredible pleasure to drive it. Handling superb, goes where you aim, great acceleration, super breaks. Flawless top up protection from weather & incredible fun top down. This is an inexpensive runabout that is a joy. Great quality vehicle. Love to travel in it. Somewhat harsh for my wife in long distance travel."

Enrique E., OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Its more fun to drive a slow sports car fast than a fast sports car slow, The Miata is responsive and handles well. It's not fast, but makes normal driving fun rtes than boring."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Strong acceleration and handling"

Anonymous, NH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"very fun to drive, handles well, accelerates well, stops extremely well, good turning circle, hugs the road"

Lawrence B., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The Miata has good acceleration and terrific handling. It's small so getting through traffic is made easier, along with the acceleration and handling."

J M., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"When I go from driving my MX-5 to driving friends' cars, it is outrageous how big of a difference there is. No one can ever honestly say that a Miata is one of the fastest cars so although you're not being plastered back into your seat, the acceleration is immediate. I sometimes forget how perfect and immediate the steering response is until I get behind the wheel of another car. The balance of the car makes for a situation where around every turn and every corner, you feel the thrill and joy of driving. Driving a Miata is how driving a roadster in your dreams feels like: perfect."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It's just fun"

Anonymous, WA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The Mazda Miata is a great driving car. Although it is not exceptionally powerful, it handles like a go-kart and has great road feel. The 6-speed manual transmission is a lot of fun."

JIM O., MO (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"great value. fun to drive. best handling car I have owned."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Driving this car is a joy. The manual gearbox is a pleasure to shift. Acceleration is good for a normally aspirated 4 cylinder."

KEITH D., TX (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"drives like a dream. very responsive, great get up & go. a fun car"

ELLEN A., MD (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"This is the 3rd Miata I have owned and this new model is by far the best handling, holds the road well, corners fabulously, feels solid like a "big" car and has lots of get up and get. Very satisfying to drive, when you are a person that loves to drive."

KIRK C., OR (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Handling, handling, handling"

Anonymous, MO (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"driving experience is excellent. Tight steering. Handles excellent. Love it!"

DEBORAH S., NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The experience is amazing. I have owned a number of roadsters over the years. The 2016 Miata provides the most satisfaction. It is quick and light with precise steering. It has even torque delivery so you can rev it to a normal level with nice response or rev all the way out if you like. It is also very comfortable for a roadster and I am 6'1.5" and 195 pounds. It is a fine car to own and drive."

BARBARA D., NY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It is the most fun to drive"

JAMES R., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"I drive this car every chance that I get and the Lexus stays in the garage. It drives fantastic and I just love the way that it handles and drives. I had a Smart car before the Miata and I loved the Smart also but the Smart drove like a go-kart and this drives like a luxury race car."

NATHANIEL B., GA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It is the family's road trip car. My wife, my son and I all love to take it on fun drives."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The connection between the car and the rider."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Much better performer than the NC Miata. I don't miss the speed of my prior Audi S4 one bit. The Miata puts a smile on my face every time I drive it."

SCOTT S., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"the handling and performance of this car is the entire reason for owning it. it never disappoints."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Handling."

JAY S., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Compared to my previous 2006 MX-5, this one is much better. 5th gear in this car is about where 6th was in the old one, and the new 6th is more of a true overdrive. I got 32 mpg with the 06, and this one gets 38. The clutch is even smoother than the 06, and the whole experience of driving this car seems seamless and natural. It corners like it's on rails, without squealing tires and such"

ROBERT Y., NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Most maneuverable car on the road! Handles like a bicycle."

Anonymous, GA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very quick, great handling, it demands that I am completely engaged in driving, not just sitting and steering a car."

Anonymous, NB (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very fun to drive and handles well. Good acceleration"

DAVID P., OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Not the fastest car on the road, but it feels like it is. Corners like a go-cart and provides sense of speed without going too much over the speed limit."

RICHARD S., NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"I've always had sports cars, and this is hands down the best handling car I've ever owned. Amazing handling."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Previously mentioned road trip was up and down Hwy 1 in California between Carmel and Point Reyes. Lots of curves and a few hills. Car was amazing. My girlfriend compared it to a roller coaster ride."

TERRY M., VA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"It has quite a bit of wind noise."

Anonymous, TN (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Since this is a small roadster, seat and ride comfort are expected to be somewhat compromised. They aren’t punishing, just quite normal for this type car. Noise with the top up is, however, quite excessive."

Hal G., AL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"We know the Miata is a small roadster and that comes with certain comfort and noise compromises. I have owned 2 other roadsters over the years. With the Miata I find it comfortable and even roomy for what it is and I am 6'1.5" tall. The seats are very comfortable and the noise level is good for what it is with the top up or down. The ride is sufficiently firm for a roadster but is not punishing. It is a joy to own and drive!"

Barbara D., NY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The car has great seat comfort even on long trips. Car is quiet except on older worn asphalt roads. The car has a firm but comfortable ride."

Roger V., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The road noise is pretty high. It is a convertible so there will be road noise but. . ."

Anonymous, GA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"For a car aimed at the joy of driving, the seats are a little on the cheap side. Too little padding and lumbar support. A few dollars could make a world of difference"

Perry M., IN (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Im 200lbs & seating area is very tight"

Anonymous, AR (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The hammock seat design does not provide good lower back support, and the unlined top of the 2016 Club version is uncomfortably loud. The ride is excellent for the vehicle type however. The leather seats are more supportive but do no breath well on hot days. Mazda should improve the standard seat comfort and material quality. The cloth material is more comfortable than leather under skin and for breathability. The road noise issue with the softtop could be solved by offering only one top for all cars, and offering different colors for Grand Touring models."

Jonathan E., MO (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"This is a sports car, but the ride is comfortable, much more than I expected."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Passenger seat is a bit stiff and could use a more comfy seat."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The seats are comfortable, the ride is sporty. The noise level is higher than my last vehicle, a 2006 Lexus RX330, but it is a convertible. I wasn't expecting a quiet ride. I enjoy the MX-5"

Anonymous, NC (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Fun to drive"

Cheryl J., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Passenger side seat is not adjustable and actually is hard to ride in for 5 foot 10 inch person with long legs. Support for thighs is poor and crowded area"

Anonymous, OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Tight seating"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"seat is too low for a shorter person. hard to see over the steering wheel and hood so I have to use a cushion."

Pat R., IL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"I feel like I am wearing my seat when I drive, as it perfectly wraps around me. The ride is a little rough, but I understand that is normal for a sports car."

Anonymous, NB (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"As mentioned above wind noise"

Anonymous, VA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Seats are terrible. No lumbar support or adjustment."

Anonymous, OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"No lumbar adjustment"

ALAN K., IN (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"After driving an hour or so, my back starts to ache"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Noisy on the hwy. on a recent trip from Fl to NY I used earplugs which made a big difference to me in comfort. Right leg gets sore after awhile."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Wind noise is very loud at maximum highway speed with the top up. Wind noise is OK with top down, but wind management is excellent in that I don't feel buffeted."

ROGER M., MI (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Seats are a bit small, pinched-in. Wish they were wider, softer."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"car us surprisingly comfortable on a long drive. recently drove over 4 hours on a road trip and was very comfortable. Car is loud, but I knew that going in . Its a convertible."

JEFFREY B., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"My Miata does not have a storage compartment that is usable. I want a glove compartment."

SUSAN T., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very limited space in cockpit versus prior Miatas . The cockpit functions are not intuitive or easy to use. for example, must take eye off the road to determine speed, fuel level, etc. The cockpit has almost no space for items usefull to hafe3 at hand, This is our 5th Miata. We have enjoyed the driving experiency and safety, but this new design is difficult and potentially dangerous."

RICHARD D., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"i find this car very uncomfortable for any length of time--both driving and riding as a passenger."

AMY S., MD (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Some intermittent creaks and rattles have shown up in the first 2000 miles; they are more noticeable on rough country roads when the top is up and audio is off; the dealer was not able to even hear them much less find and eliminate them. Also, the driver's seat is a little too low for my liking, and I wish it had a height adjustment; I am using a memory foam seat cushion which helps somewhat. The seats are not comfortable enough for long trips of over three hours or so in my opinion. But most of"

Anonymous, OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very effective A/C (I am in FL). Top up noise is excessive, even for a Miata. Perhaps the better insulated top from the GT model would help?"

SCOTT S., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"You can't get a better sports car for the money. The driving is a thrill, even at or under the speed limit. Everyone stares and compliments on the look. Looks a lot more expensive than it is."

Al P., NJ (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Only real competitor is a Porsche Boxster at double the price."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Most fun car to drive and be seen in. Great value"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The reliability has been excellent, the performance balanced against fuel economy and running costs are excellent, and the car is aesthetically pleasing. Standard features outside of safety-mandated ones are well integrated, and the optional safety features are thoughtfully designed. The price I paid for a new 2016 Club has gone up however. The RF folding hardtop is interesting, but does not offer the value that the old folding hardtop design did. The Brembo/BBS wheel package on my car is aesthetically appealing, but at MSRP is less of a good value (I purchased at a discount.) Overall, the Miata still offers excellent value in a diminished sports car market. Fun-to-drive competitors are few, and only larger options (Mustang, Camaro) offer a convertible top in the same price point."

Jonathan E., MO (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"This is a driver's car. for 50% the price of a Porsche you get 90% of the fun."

Duane B., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Got the Club version. It's like a Porsche Boxster at 1/3 the price."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Fantastic driving experience but with great MPG even if I floor it all day and everyday. The price point is unmatched."

Anonymous, TX (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Great sports car experience with car that is without any maintenance problems at a great price"

Steven E., CA (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"90% of the Porche experience at 40% of the price and devoid of European maintenance cost"

Tryg E., AK (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Great little sport car that is fun to drive. Nice styling. Many "thumps up" from others. I was surprised that the price was not too high. I expected to pay more for such a fine little sports car."

Jenean C., FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The MX-5 feels like it is worth far more than the cost. More expensive cars have less enjoyment behind the wheel. The fact that you can get a top of the line fully loaded model for under $30k or the base model for even under $20k blows the competition away. What is it that you're getting for the money? You're getting a car that is more fun and exciting to drive in any and every setting than any other car. You're getting a sports car that handles and responds perfectly and is exciting to drive at even slow speeds. You're getting features that are offered in luxury cars. You're getting a reliable vehicle. You're getting a reliable convertible top that raises and lowers in under 2 seconds. You're getting a sports car that averages combined 34mpg (I live in a major metropolitan area so do a lot of city driving and I track my fuel economy so I know it's 34). With all of that, you're getting a car that is subjectively one of the best looking sports cars around. The fact that you can have all of this in one car for the price that they ask really is amazing."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Most fun for your dollar. And beautiful to boot."

Ted G., CO (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Paid $600 below invoice so I am very satisfied with price."

DAVID P., OH (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The Mazda Miata is very reasonably priced for a vehicle with this much styling and which is as much fund to drive as a go-kart"

JIM O., MO (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Very thankful that a trim choice was offered WITHOUT infotainment and/or complicated display screens. These items lend some wow factor to the test drive but are going to disallow so many vehicles from becoming "classics" in the future -- due to non-functioning electronics (which often control all audio, climate, etc.) I can do without all that."

Anonymous, AL (2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Even at retail price, seems to be a very competitive value. Our dealer very readily discounted the vehicle and made the purchasing experience really pleasant"
