The Nissan Altima is among our better rated family sedans. The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder delivers better performance than some six-cylinder engines and an impressive 25 mpg overall. The 3.5-liter V6 is very powerful yet delivers 23 mpg overall. The 2.5 S has good handling and absorbs bumps better than the 3.5 SE, which is stiff and jittery, but corners better. Interior quality is very good, but rear-seat room is a bit tight.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"The Altima acceleration and handling is about what I would expect from any smaller hybrid car."

MICHAEL G., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"CVT. That's all I need to say. I can't stand it. When I come to a stop it feels like a bowling ball rolls down the car and thumps in the front. Nissan says its normal for the CVT. Just can't stand it. I don't think I will ever consider a car with a CVT again."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Owned since 2009. Great car for 2014 when the paint started fading and the interior dash and instrument cover started splitting and melting, requiring $6,000 to repair"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Children have commented that acceleration is better than their cars and handling is very responsive."

JANE C., OH (2008 Nissan Altima)

"as fast as a rocket on rails"

DAVID G., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"See 1st comment starting with transmission. Probably have a sizeable chunk of purchase price back into the car for repairs!"

Anonymous, MD (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Transmisision is cvt & it is not as responsive as a standard automatic... It lags when you steps on the gas ( sluggish )"

JOHN W., AZ (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Acceleration is very good for a 4 cylinder engine. It's a fun car to drive and responds well when I need it to"

Anonymous, MD (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Quality and ability to regularly perform in handling and acceleration are important for careful driving. This car has performed well since I got it. And, it has a manual transmission that allows control of vehicle."

JUDITH E., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The Altima drives wonderfully when it drives. It has issues that require an engine replacement that we can't afford right now. We bought used and have no recourse in that direction. Our mechanic friend put a Band-Aid on it, but tells us to get rid of ASAP."

SARA F., LA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"It is very responsive to the gas pedal. S"

LOUIS W., PA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Fantastic acceleration and handling."

Anonymous, NC (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The only thing I am dissatisfied with is the squeaky brakes when there in nothing wrong with them. This is the 2nd Altima that I have owned and they both have done the same thing."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Electrical issues with engine sensors, tire sensors and OBD connector (under the dashboard) - all expensive and not cover by manufacturer."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"the BEST thing about it is how it turns on a dime. U-turns are easy and efficient even on very narrow streets."

LAURA P., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very strong acceleration especially for a hybrid, handles good too."

J P., UT (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Acceleration is excellent. Tight sport handling on curves and corners."

MARGARET N., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"I was really surprised with the acceleration of this 4-cylinder. The handling is great in town or on the open road. The gas mileage is good & it doesn't use a drop of oil."

"Very responsive and handles predictably."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very sporty with good handling and above average acceleration"

Anonymous, ON (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very positive handling"

Joel D., GA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"With the larger V-6 engine, the car is very quick and responsive"

"Excellent acceleration and handling. Car sits a little close to ground-I sometimes bottom out on bumps."

Anonymous, TN (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The 4-cyc will really surprise you! You can drive the speed limit here in TX with no problem. Great car on the hi-way as well as in town."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"good power and acceleration as well as deceleration. Handle well in snow for small car."

David A., NY (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Handling and acceleration are excellent, more like a sports car. CVT is a bit unsteady at low speeds."

Johnnie E., FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Responsive 2.5 liter engine and fuel efficient."

Anonymous, AL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"This car is great to drive. It has great handling and acceleration."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The Altima handles well. The acceleration is responsive but is better when the RPM is at about 4000-4500. The front suspension handles the curve well but the back suspension is too soft and bottoms out with adult passenger."

Benjamin S., IN (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Great acceleration and handling. Very smooth transmission operation during acceleration."

Todd K., MO (2008 Nissan Altima)

"acceleration is great! the car handles well. The only time there is trouble is if it is wet or snowy out, where there is a lot of power in the front wheels and starting out can be tough."

Anonymous, IN (2008 Nissan Altima)

"It has all the get-up-and-go that I need. It's good around town driving and great out on the hi-way. Love the air conditioner here in Houston."

Jacquelyn D., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Great acceleration and relatively responsive handling for a sedan."

"Love the handling and acceleration. Lots of power when needed"

Anonymous, VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Much better acceleration amd handling than I would expect or the price I paid."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The Altima SE Coupe with its powerful V-6 engine and manual transmission has brought back a sense of driving fun I had not experienced since my Muscle Car days. Although the car is far from perfect, so were the cars of the 60's and early 70's, before the government decided to take the joy out of driving."

Carl L., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Performance is outstanding. Quick and agile."

Glen M., ON (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Purchased the V-6 engine (270 hp), coupe model. Looks sharp; acceleration and handling are excellent. Also enjoy the front wheel drive."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"I needed to add a pillow for lumbar support. Road noise at higher speeds is louder than I'd like."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"climate seats get hot on hot days while driving. At times it feels like the seat heater is on. distracting because uncomfortble"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The seats are very, very comfortable."

Anonymous, NB (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Too much road noise and the ride is too stiff."

Anonymous, AL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"My car is very comfortable: long or short drives. It is not loud inside the cabin and the power drivers seat is very comfortable. The AC still works great although takes a toll on the 4 cylinder engine. The shocks and struts are going out so ride is comprimised."

MATT E., CO (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Seats have lost their support, car has lots of wind noise, blower failed and was expensive fo replace."

JOHN D., NY (2008 Nissan Altima)

"A little cramped for a six-foot male over 225 lbs."

Anonymous, AZ (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Seats are not as comfortable as I would like. Back pain on long trips"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"the passenger seat is uncomfortable long trips."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Nissan Altima)

Anonymous, TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"I have heated leather adjustable seats. Love them! Also the car "fits" me well. Not too heavy, not too big, not too small. I am Goldilocks and this car is "just right" for me."

Anonymous, WA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Excessive tire and road noise. Ride can be overly firm. Interior is drab and slightly cheap looking."

LEONARD B., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Low end model seats and interior wore excessively fast. Good acceleration for4 cyl."

David A., NY (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Great driving perspective and controls eay to reach"

Anonymous, VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"It has melting, sticky, shiney dash problem typical of 2008-2009 Altimas in southern states - see NTSB complaints and Class Action suit in Florida - but dealer / Nissan wants $1200 to replace - will give us a good customer discount to $750. This should be a safety recall as shiney dash creates glare on windshield that is blinding in certain sunlight conditions"

Anonymous, LA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"- Awful front seats for anything other than local driving."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Wide heated leather seats"

Anonymous, MB (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Especially given the fact that the Altima was not the "premium" level automobile, it is a quiet, comfortable and overall pleasant car to drive"

Richard M., NJ (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Has plenty of power and rides well."

Joel D., GA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"This car fits me. It is very comfortable and the seat can be adjusted for all types of drivers."

Van W., MO (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Extremely quiet ride even during acceleration. The transmission is smooth and doesn't jerk. The seats are just okay. They could be a bit softer."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"I drove just about all the sedans in this price range when deciding which to buy. This has a far smoother ride. The only noise complaint is when it rains the sound is tinny on the roof as though there's no insulation. Last car I heard it like this was in my '73 VW bus. Fun when you're camping but not now."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very smooth. Much smoother than I expected for cost"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Somewhat loud road noise at highway speeds."

William G., MN (2008 Nissan Altima)

"the car seats are comfortable, and the ride better than the infiniti m35 I have."

Anonymous, IN (2008 Nissan Altima)

"reasonably comfortable seats and noise level while driving, 4-cyl engine causes a noticeable car vibration when stopped in drive."

Anonymous, GA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The front seats particularly are very comfortable. The ride is likewise comfortable. The only noise comes from the sun roof that no longer seals properly."

Anonymous, UT (2008 Nissan Altima)

"temp control in cold weather is inadequate"

Anonymous, RI (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The seat could be a little more comfortable. Feels like I'm sitting on a board with a little padding over it."

Janice S., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Car rides very smooth. Great commuting car. Suspension and seats do a great job"

Anonymous, MA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"This car has comfortable seats accelerates quickly and coasts noiseless on road"

Mark W., FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Overall an excellent vehicle for errands in town, good gas mileage, and easy to park"

W C., WA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"I paid $18k for my 2008 Altima S brand new and then purchased the alloy wheels for $600. It was an amazing value and 180k miles later it has never needed even one repair. The brake pads lasted 120k miles. The engine runs strong and trouble free. There's still plenty of play in the clutch and I love the six speed manual transmission. Sorry they discontinued that option. I'll need to replace the suspension struts soon, but that's expected. I'll get at least 300k miles on this car."

TIM M., NC (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The hybrid package was well worth it"

JOHN D., NY (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Purchased new, currently 122K miles. Have had only one repair outside what I consider normal ware items and maintenance ."

ROBERT F., NJ (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very limited repairs needed over 8 years. Very pleased."

PATRICIA B., VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Pro - Very reliable, comfortable Con - key fab gives us a "need battery" alarm after we have changed batteries. Doors will not stay open when on any type of incline."

Anonymous, NE (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Excellent gas mileage and handling for size and price of car."

TIM F., VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Great car.I have the 3.5 V6,with good pep and mileage, but I'm on my third battery in 8 years with only 70,000Kms.It's the only problem I've had."

BOB L., BC (2008 Nissan Altima)

"We bought this hybrid when gas was $4.50/gallon. That was stupid and we take blame."

ROBERT L., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Altima with the V6 engine option, sunroof, and sports package (rear spoiler, sports suspension?) for just $25k after dealer financing discount. In this day and age, such a good value doesn't exist anymore."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Had I bought a different car I would not have been able to afford the options I use evert day."

Anonymous, OH (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Bought it in July 2007 - car prices dropped significantly just after that."

ROGER C., AB (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Aside from a transmission problem that Nissan was aware of and replaced the transmission at no cost to me, the Altima is a very low cost, very comfortable, very reliable car for the money. I bought it used for $17,800 in April of 2010 and I'm still driving it every day"

Anonymous, MD (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Great car for the money."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Always something going wrong with car starting with transmission before it was a year old still in warranty. Since then its been one relatively major thing after another."

Anonymous, MD (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Great car with no issues"

THOM P., VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very low maintenance costs and very reliable for a low price."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"During the annual vehicle inspection, it was discovered that the motor mounting brackets on 1 side of the engine was broken and had to be replaced. The car was purchased brand new and has never been in a wreck or driven off of pavement and has less than 75,000 miles. I've never had to replace an engine mounting bracket on a previous car regardless of how many miles it had on it."

Dennis T., UT (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Has been an excellent car. Hadn't spent much at all as to repairs until 101,000 miles. Had to replace catalytic converter. Would buy again."

Richard M., NM (2008 Nissan Altima)

"202,000 miles and still going strong. Great reliability and comfort for 25k. Will buy another when the time comes."

Thomas B., CT (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The car is nine years old. While we don't have a lot of miles on it, it is as nimble and peppy as when we bought it. Aside from routine maintenance, we have not had a single problem -- and I've never had THAT experience before!"

Michael S., RI (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Other than routine maintenance, I've put less than $2000 into this vehicle."

Johnnie E., FL (2008 Nissan Altima)

"for the price, this is a great car."

Glen M., ON (2008 Nissan Altima)

"We liked the fact that we saw very few other Altima coupes during the first 3 years of ownership. The car closely resembles the more expensive Infiniti coupe but cost significantly less. We have had no major problems during the 11 years of ownership and the car still receives positive comments from on-lookers."

James H., GA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Very reliable. Good size fits all."

Anonymous, MD (2008 Nissan Altima)

"I used a $14 CR report on this car to negotiate the price about $3000 below MRSP.Thank you! Please do not raise the price - I could barely afford it. As described, the ride is superior to others in that price range. The body has a lot of integrity. 10 years later, I still get complements on it from passerbys. It has the best visibility (from inside) but this is an area that needs improvement across the board. Scratches most often rub out. There's no body rust. The Continental tires were good for 9 yrs. People need more education on keeping the battery alive in digital cars, especially if they're not used regularly."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"This car is 10 years old and has no sign of giving out. There has been some maintenance because of the age but nothing that would make up the difference of buying another car."

Anonymous, AZ (2008 Nissan Altima)

"This car is superb in all aspects. We have had no trouble mechanically or otherwise. It's performance is excellent, the gas mileage is very good, and I will keep it until it tells me it quits."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Super good value for the price we got a hybrid car that as a commute car runs mostly on electric mode. Batteries lasted 10+ years."

Wm S., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"it is now 10 years old, I am overall satisfied the interior is tan, seem to show dirtiness more than when I have owned cars when the gray tones"

Todd L., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"great modern styling"

DAVID G., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"the overall shape of the car makes me happy every time I see it, even after 8 years"

LAURA P., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"It's still one of my favorite body styles. Love the lines. I still don't like the newest Altima body style as well as I do this one. Paint is a bit soft, though. The hood rock chips quite easily."

JOHN G., IA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The two door coupe is very stylish and even though it is 8 years old still looks great! The spoiler adds a lot of style!"

JOHN B., WI (2008 Nissan Altima)

"I still get complements on this coupe after 9 years."

Anonymous, MN (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The Altima styling makes it look and feel like an intermediate size car, not the small car that it is. I chose it because it has more leg room than any other small or intermediate size car that I test drove."

MICHAEL G., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Even if it is a 2008, the styling is still a good looking car."

JACQUELYN D., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"From the sides and rear, looks like a handsome automobile."

LEONARD B., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"Bad: It is too close too the road/ground; the back window is very large and lets in masses of solar heat in the summer. The absolutely worst part of the styling are the side mirrors. They extend out way too far for safety and have been an open invitation to disaster. The first year I had the car I knocked off a mirror backing into the garage - although I'd hand no difficulty with my Toyota Camry, I had to have the central divided removed from my 2 car garage. When parked in lots I've had"

Anonymous, OH (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The 2008 Altima's styling is still one of the all time best looking vehicles"

JOHN O., GA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The paint is total CRAP--this car is black. the paint started fading and peeling off. Husband took it in several times while under warranty, they did NOTHING. Took Nissan to small claims court after that, they did NOTHING. Had much of the car repainted on our own, so it looks better. Almost every other Nissan we see of this model type and year has terrible paint and Nissan won't own up to it. For this reason, we will NEVER buy another Nissan."

JUDITH P., CA (2008 Nissan Altima)

"sporty looking-perfect car for my daughter who just got her license"

DAVID B., TX (2008 Nissan Altima)

"The best looking car I ever owned. Real luxury without the luxury price."

Anonymous, NY (2008 Nissan Altima)
