Despite a few high points, the Nissan Altima is not competitive among midsized sedans. In a segment brimming with better cars, the Altima is a lackluster choice. It ranks below virtually all of its competitors with a humdrum driving experience. Among its virtues are a roomy rear seat and good fuel economy. With the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder, we measured a commendable 29 mpg overall.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"4cl is plenty powerful."

David B., AZ (2018 Nissan Altima)

"It has the power and handles on a dime."

Susan C., OH (2018 Nissan Altima)

"The acceleration (power delivery) at low to moderate speed is inconsistent or lagging. I assume this is due to the CVT and have learned to adapt but when I first purchased it this was very surprising and made some situations where I wanted or expected acceleration a bit tricky requiring quick adjustment to my driving plan."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Nissan Altima)

"Acceleration could be better, navigation system is very poor as it always has been with Nissan products"

Anonymous, ON (2018 Nissan Altima)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The vehicle has less than 800 miles and the front suspension already makes deep compression sounds like struts that are 10 years old when going over speed bumps. Nissan said that the speed bumps are not normal driving conditions and won’t fix. Front sensor keeps malfunctioning with errors that do not have a fix."

Anonymous, NV (2018 Nissan Altima)

"Excellent comfort, ride, noise good."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Nissan Altima)

"Leg Room & Comfortable Seats"

Anonymous, AL (2018 Nissan Altima)

"Lumbar support and leg room"

Frank S., MA (2018 Nissan Altima)

"The Nissan is a comfortable ride with lots of leg and head room. The seats with lumbar support are the best on the market. No more backaches on long drives!"

Susan C., OH (2018 Nissan Altima)

"seats are comfortable and ride is smooth"

Anonymous, ON (2018 Nissan Altima)

Anonymous, FL (2018 Nissan Altima)

"It was more car than I expected for the money spent as far as comfort, size, acceleration, fuel economy, and features."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Nissan Altima)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
