Nissan redesigned its entry-level Versa sedan for 2012, but not for the better. While the previous model was our top-rated subcompact sedan, the changes made to the new version have dropped it to the bottom of its category. On the positive side, this Versa gets much better fuel economy -- 32 mpg overall vs. 27 -- and it provides a roomy rear seat. But it's slow, noisy and handles clumsily.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

NA

What Owners Say

“Too much money for quality.”

LESLIE Y., PA (2013 Nissan Versa)

“This car is made of cheap components. You can feel how weak the transmission is just by shifting. The materials used in the floor carpeting and sears have worn a lot though they have seen little use. On the highway, the Versa jumps around in the lane, in spite of numerous alignments. I consider this a dangerous safety feature.”

PHILIP L., MA (2013 Nissan Versa)

“Small compact car, with good features, at a very competitive price”

KEN K., BC (2013 Nissan Versa)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
