Surprisingly luxurious and refined, this version of the Ram pickup truck remains fully capable of doing dirty work when duty calls. A unique coil-spring rear suspension gives it a smooth ride and the interior is whisper-quiet. Continued interior and powertrain improvements make the Ram a particularly well-rounded choice, and it was the first truck in its class to offer a diesel.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“The acceleration is lacking, because the transmission shifts to fast. The engine has no low end power.”

Anonymous, TX (2013 Ram 1500)

“With 300 hp V6 and an 8-speed automatic the acceleration is amazing for such a large vehicle. The handling is better than I would have expected for a relatively high-profile truck.”

Anonymous, GA (2013 Ram 1500)

“Strong engine and excellent for pulling an RV.”

STEPHEN L., OR (2013 Ram 1500)

“better than competition”

Anonymous, ON (2013 Ram 1500)

“For a truck it has great performance”

ZACK L., SC (2013 Ram 1500)

“The Hemi is powerful and fuel efficient (for a truck). It reaches highway speeds quickly and makes passing effortless and safe.”

ROBERT R., FL (2013 Ram 1500)

“For a truck it handles just fine. Occasionally there are some engine/transmission points where the engine goes from low speed to very high speed, but for the most part it has a smooth power train providing good fuel economy.”

KEVIN E., IL (2013 Ram 1500)

“The 2013 RAM 1500 has eliminated leaf springs for graduated coils in the rear making it an exceptional ride, stearing with digital-hydraulic system makes cornering soft and accurate, and thirdly the 3.6 liter six cylinder engine is amply powerful and with the 8 speed automatic transmission when keeping speeds at about 70 mph, just under 2000 rpm gets an honest 25 mpg on hiway. I got 29.9 mpg for 150 miles from Reno to Sacramento last month. It also has the 3.55 ratio rear end.”

BERND B., CA (2013 Ram 1500)

“When the transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear, the RPMs drop too far, the engine bogs down and further throttle input is needed to maintain acceleration.”

MICHAEL C., OK (2013 Ram 1500)

“Handling”

Anonymous, NC (2013 Ram 1500)

“The V6 is surprisingly Pepe!”

Anonymous, NC (2013 Ram 1500)

“Smooth ride, great gas mileage and acceleration when needed. Very good in the snow up here in the Northwest.”

N G., WA (2013 Ram 1500)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“We recently took a long distance trip on short notice and found the truck to be extremely comfortable. The cab was quiet even on rough roads and the truck handled easily on interstates and in metro areas. Long distance mileage averaged 23 mpg.”

JEREMIAH M., PA (2013 Ram 1500)

“It has a comfortable ride, quiet interior, and comfortable seats.”

KEVIN E., IL (2013 Ram 1500)

“interior is similar to a luxury sedan, very quiet, good visibility, very comfortable on long trips.”

N G., WA (2013 Ram 1500)

“The road noise is louder than my 2009 RAM was. I don't know how else to describe this. Hear too much outside noise on the highway.”

WILLIAM M., TX (2013 Ram 1500)

“Seats and ride”

Anonymous, NC (2013 Ram 1500)

“Driver seat is low, and does not have a manual adjustment for height. There is no after market seat booster available. Seat is comfortable.”

JOHN N., GA (2013 Ram 1500)

“Love the smoothness of the ride”

PATRICK G., IL (2013 Ram 1500)

“Air conditioned seats, front and back. Large comfortable and great for long drives”

ROBERT R., FL (2013 Ram 1500)
