Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Ram 1500 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

"Android Auto just weren't for for a couple days. Resolved itself."

Anonymous, GA (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"I enabled Android Auto. After several attempts, I thought it was operational. However, Bluetooth connection was slower than the one provided by FCA (Ram), it (the phone) did not always connect when I wished it to connect, and I finally deleted the app and resumed Bluetooth connection via manufacturer supplied electronics."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn 5.7-L V8)
Apple CarPlay

"Randomly the truck is does not recognize that my iPhone is connected via USB. I have purchased many cords from Apple and aftermarket and all do not work at times."

Anonymous, (2019 Ram 1500 Unsure 5.7-L V8)

"Smartphone randomly disconnects and reconnects. When used with navigation, the destination has to be reset."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)
Backup or other camera/sensors

"Received safety recall notice. will be taken to dealer to correct on Monday 5/11/20"

Anonymous, HI (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)
Display screen freezes up

"Apple CarPlay would randomly not recognize my phone, sometimes the buttons on the steering wheel wouldn't control the phone. Randomly, the screen would go blank and several times the backup camera would not show the lines on the display or go black. I believe all these problems are related to the head unit."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"If the car was put into reverse and then into forward, the backup/surround camera view would stay on the control screen the entire time you were driving. This problem did not occur every time. Only on occation. I believe that an over-the-air update was the fix."

Anonymous, (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"The display and control icons on the 12 screen screw up intermittently. This is a known problem and they are supposed to be working on a software fix."

Anonymous, FL (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)
Display screen goes blank

"The display screen first started to freeze up on the camera mode about 8 months after purchase. It then started to completely freeze up about 2 months later where I had to completely turn the vehicle off and restart it sometimes multiple times to get the screen to operate. Finally one day it completely stopped working and as such rendered the vehicle completely undrivable and it had to be towed to the dealership to be repaired. Screen completely replaced under warranty with approximately 4 business days down time."

Anonymous, AB (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"Intermittently, the display screen will not come on at all. It seems to resolve itself if the car is turned off and allowed to sit for a minute or two then turned back on. The problem has happened about three times in the 12 months I've owned the truck."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"Screen went out without any prior issues. Still able to use touch surface to change channels but had a dark/black screen. Dealership said they updated software to correct the issue."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)
Hardware replacement

"The radio had to be replaced. It took 30 days to obtain the replacement unit. Since the climate controls and everything are integrated in the infotainment system, the vehicle had to stay at the dealer for 30 days."

Anonymous, AL (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"Complete and frequent failure of the Uconnect system. After many service visits and out-of-service days the radio head was replaced. It seems like FCA is not providing the dealerships the proper research, diagnostic, training and equipment to manage this system."

Anonymous, IA (2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn 5.7-L V8)

"It started with the GPS function failing. It would not update position at all and would not accept input or software updates. Noticed that the XM radio functions were reduced i.e. it would not show any data or information referenced to the station I was tuned to. I took it to the dealership who attempted to reboot the software which resulted in the truck not able to function at all. Too many features were disabled that are controlled by the head unit. They placed one on order but it took almost a month for it to arrive. To their credit, they provided me with a new truck to use at no cost for the duration of this process."

Anonymous, AL (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Antenna was broken causing the XM Guardian/Uconnect to fail connecting to the servers"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"The head unit on this vehicle controls just about everything. As it started to fail I would see unusual items on the screen while driving - cameras on while in motion, loss of saved radio stations, etc. When it totally failed the vehicles battery drained. Once jumped I attempted to drive to the dealer but it was safe mode and would not allow me to drive out of 1st gear limiting speed. Total failure of this head unit pretty much prevents the vehicle from being used. I've actually had two of these units have problem but only replaced one. The current one still has occasional issues with regard to random cameras showing while driving - many times these seem to be related to overnight upgrades to software done by the factory."

Anonymous, KY (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Difficult to use, can't just impute an address"

Anonymous, (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"This was Uconnect 4C Nav system with 12" display. Nav system got lost. Seemed to operate normally but location was completely off. Took several trips to dealer leaving car for several days each time. Dealer eventually replaced entire display/radio system. No problems since."

Anonymous, OH (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"On long trips the navigation would hang and the vehicle had to be shut off before it would reset. It was intermittent. The dealer flashed the navigation and it hasn't failed again."

Anonymous, AZ (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"Twice on a long road trip, it took us the wrong way. It is poorly designed and does not give driver the option to select fastest route which makes it difficult to figure out what is going wrong with it. A friend suggested to pulling off the route into a safe area, shut the car off and then restart the car and reprogram the destination. Also, recommended start out the main road you know is correct and keep going until it gets the idea you have chosen a particular route. NO WAY IT COMPARES TO A GARMIN. You need a road map to get going the right way."

Anonymous, NH (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 3.6-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Occasionally, the phone pairing drops after starting the vehicle. After stopping and restarting the engine, it usually begins anew."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn 5.7-L V8)

"Bluetooth quit working on radio"

Anonymous, OK (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)
Radio

"When playing FM radio the volume "surges" up and down. Dealer is unable to fix. Occurs about 50% of the time when listening to radio. Shutting off the truck and restarting will occasionally fix the issue."

Anonymous, (2019 Ram 1500 Unsure 5.7-L V8)

"It was an intermittent problem. Sometimes after starting the truck, no sound would come out of the radio for FM, satellite, or bluetooth at all. But switching to AM for a moment, and switching back to FM, usually resulted in the sound coming back."

Anonymous, AZ (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"It has an intermittent hum"

Anonymous, NE (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Radio would intermittently change channels by itself."

William D., TN (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"Satellite radio doesn’t perform as it should.. it keeps going back to the promotional station each time the vehicle is stopped."

Anonymous, WI (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"It locks up intermittently with no sound at all. You have to completely shut it off and let it sit all day or night and 95% of the time it works again. RAM says they know about the problem but don’t have fix.. it’s been 3 months now and counting!"

Anonymous, IL (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"The audio will discontinue to operate once in a while?"

Gary F., NE (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Sirius worked for the first week of ownership. Then it just quit (would not receive any channels). Talked with Sirius 3 times in that week (all they said was that 2019 Ram 1500s had a recall issue because of something new in that model year). Dealership salesman and service personnel had not heard of any problems or recalls. After a week of trying and calling, it suddenly worked again. No explanation nor remuneration for lost air time."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn 5.7-L V8)
Software update fixes

"Tilt in reverse feature for rear view mirrors did not consistentantly function properly causing the mirrors to remain in the down position Radio speakers would not always return to music after finishing a phone call"

Anonymous, ON (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"Software that controlled compass and time zone setting had to be replaced"

Anonymous, TN (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)
Speakers

"Occasionally don't get any sound out of the speakers, whether it's the radio playing, or phone. I can turn off the engine and restart and it will come back. This seems to be a known problem in other 2019 Ram 1500's."

Brenda M., OK (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"The panoramic sunroof drain caused a leak. A drain tube for the sunroof has an outside grommet that is located between the bed and the rear cabin. This grommet popped out and allowed rain water to leak in. This made my rear passenger crew cabin soaking wet. This leaking unknowingly went on for months and allowed for mold to grow all over the cabin. In the winter I had frost on the INSIDE windows. I have a great video of that if you want it. I had no idea what was happening until I saw all of the mold on the cabin floor. It was fixed by the dealer, but caused months of problems before it was discovered."

Anonymous, MD (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"Water leaks in the cab, so replaced the cab cover with a cap that goes over cab."

Anonymous, NH (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 3.6-L V6)

"After 2 days water wad discovered under drivers mat! In service could not resolve! Seemed it was showing up with a/c usage again a small spot 3 or so round was found under the mat! The A/C usage ended for the winter. In again in for service in March and again nothing conclusive. We will see this Summer."

Henry K., NY (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"Sun roof Rear drain tubes installed improperly at factory- water got in cab"

Anonymous, NJ (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"I had water leaking into the floor area under the rear seat. Dealer had me in within two days and the problem fixed that same day, along with two other recall issues (for which my vehicle had not experienced the problems)."

Robert L., VA (2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 5.7-L V8)
Squeaks or rattles

"Body groans at lose speed on turns from A-pillar area. Similar issues seem to have been reported by other owners"

Anonymous, IL (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)

"When the truck is driving in Eco mode and decelerating at a certain RPM (about 1500) there is a pronounced vibration from the driver-side front that reverberates throughout the vehicle, enough that it rattles things in the door pockets in the back seats."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"Headliner rattle/creak due to apex clips."

Kim Z., MI (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Multiple interior rattles - A pillar on driver's side; rear window and sliding rear window; several in dash/infotainment area; driver's door seal. NONE of which have been corrected."

Anonymous, KS (2019 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7-L V8)
Wind noise

"While driving on the highway in a strong cross wind the diver and passenger doors allowed excessive wind noise in the cabin at a totally unacceptable level. The dealer could never replicate it but the noise has diminished over time suspecting the door seals took time to better seat themselves"

Anonymous, (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"I think there may be a problem with the drivers side door seal as I get a wind noise on the highway. There is a 2" section of the seal that is folded around the outside of the pillar. This may be the cause but I need to take the vehicle in on warranty to have the dealer check it. There doesn't appear to be a water leak. I haven't taken the truck in yet as there haven't been any other significant issues (other than the backup autobrake) that warrant making an appointment. I'll wait until my next oil change. Overall, it's a good truck."

Anonymous, MN (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"At freeway speed, in a cross wind, there is a wind noise coming from the driver's side front, that it drowns out people talking inside the cabin. The driver's side grab handle also vibrates at a very high frequency. I have taken it back to the dealership, and they have applied a fix, but we are not sure yet if it has been fully resolved. We will need to wait and see."

Keith C., AZ (2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

Problem(s) fueling the tank

"Truck has an ongoing issue fueling that is common with Ram's. After the 1st few gallons filling, the fuel filler neck will back up with fuel causing the pump to shut off due to back flow. You must wait until the fuel neck empties itself and you repeat the process over and over 1-3 gallons at a time until the 30 gal tank is full. Anonymous, MI (2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)
Driveline vibration

"This shake was noticed during the test drive. Salesman also noticed it. Service gave me their word it was flat spots on tires and if it didn't go away after a week or so then they would order new tires. It did not go away, so they replaced the tires. Vibration was still there so I brought back to service again and they said two of the new tires would not road force balance so they order a few more. They completed two tire replacements and road force balance, which did appear to help greatly. However after another month or so the vibration slowly became more noticeable. I scheduled service again with another dealer and they said no problem found, even though this has been mentioned many times on Ram forumns online. I gave up on it and traded it in shortly after, because my opportunity to file a lemon law claim expired. I figured it was worth the trip and effort anymore."

Drove it off the lot after they had supposedly fixed it and got 1 mile down the road ave turned around and brought it back because it was shaking so badly. The second time they seem to have gotten it right. We tried to ask about but back from Dodge and they said we didn't qualify.
