This iteration of the Forester remained one of the best small SUVs out there. With perhaps the most comfortable ride of any small SUV, it also handles well. The cabin is spacious, well designed and offers great outward visibility. A new non-turbo engine arrived for 2011, though it brought no significant improvement in acceleration or fuel economy. The four-speed automatic transmission was dated by the standards of the day.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Subaru changed the engine design on the Forester in 2011. As with first roll-outs, the engine has a few faults, which seem to have been corrected in the 2012 and beyond models. The engine will rev loudly when trying to accelerate and the handling is delicate. I prefer how the car pulls forward and is a little more "stiff" on the newer models."

Anonymous, OK (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It handles very well and the acceleration is good. The problem is a dated 4 speed transmission. The engine revs very high at highway speeds. It desperately needs a cvt or at least one or two more gears."

Anonymous, NC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Living in Minnesota, competent handling in snow/ice is key and the Forster handles this task very well. The car is also very comfortable on long trips and rides great on all manor of roads."

JAMES Z., MN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Exceptional snow and ice handling."

Anonymous, IA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Got this when we lived in Alaska. Simply no substitute for AWD in snow and ice. Living south now, haven't even put on snow tires for 3 years"

GORDON P., WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The best handling on snow and ice of any car I've owned."

Anonymous, MT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Handles very well and Acceleration onto highway is very good"

Anonymous, CT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Great 4 wheel drive and super visibility, fun to drive"

ARTHUR K., VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The turbo-charging provides power for acceleration, useful for changing lanes in dense Boston traffic and passing on two lane Nova Scotia roads."

DOUGLAS R., MA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The 4 wheel drive provides excellent performance in winter."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Traction in snow with the stick shift is unbelievable. Decent handling in general"

Anonymous, AK (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Has manual transmisson"

CAL R., AZ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It handles great in traffic and bad weather. It has great acceleration"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It accelerates decently if the gas pedal is pushed slowly and steadily. If you hit the pedal hard due to a need to accelerate suddenly, the car's engine revs but it does not accelerate. It kicks in a few seconds later. This can be a problem. I was told by the dealership this is common for AWD."

Anonymous, NC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Acceleration is so-so. The engine struggles to switch gears while I'm merging onto highways. No overdrive feature either. This is my biggest annoyance with this car."

Anonymous, MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"My previous Forester suffered loss of steering control during a late winter snowfall when I down-shifted manually descending a moderate slope on a gravel thinly snow-covered road resulting in a collision with a utility pole (no injuries resulting) at about 20 mph."

M M., NH (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Great handling, 4WD system is brilliant in the snow where we live, great ground clearance and very predictable. An excellent handling car in tough conditions."

ANTHONY E., BC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The car struggles a bit going up steep hills. We live at 5500 feet and frequently drive to Santa Fe which is at 7200 feet. There are one or two sections of the drive that go up a steep incline and the Subaru frequently has to automatically downshift. A bit more power would be helpful."

GARY P., NM (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Sluggish acceleration unless you downshift and really rev it. All power seems to come in high rams. My friend's older Forester (07) with a similar motor seems to have a lot more power."

ANTHONY L., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Not the zippiest car on the road but very adequate for entering freeways and everyday safe driving."

WILLIAM W., SC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Despite Consumer Reports bias toward this vehicle, it leans too much in curves, and suffers from an annoying delay in acceleration. Surprisingly, it also gets lower gas mileage than my Corvette. However, it is a good workhorse vehicle."

TERRENCE V., OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Handles much better than you would expect from a Vehicle of this type but acceleration is poor."

TOM R., MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Love the acceleration from the turbo. So fun to drive"

PAUL K., IL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Driveability,"

MICHAEL M., MN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I drive a windy mountain road a great deal and it handles beautifully!!!"

NANCIE B., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I live in a hilly area and the acceleration is poor for that. It's OK otherwise, but sometimes I wonder whether I'll make it up my hills."

VICTORIA S., MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Car handles well and is easy to park."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The turbo makes this vehicle so powerful and fun to drive. Acceleration is outstanding and handling is wonderful."

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Seems underpowered. Steering is cumbersome and top heavy when compared to other SUV's I've driven."

TIM S., WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"We live in the country on a gravel road and get plenty of snow in the winter. This car gets us through no matter what weather we face. Traction in bad weather is remarkable."

IAN P., ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Very responsive. Has a somewhat "squirrel-y" feel. Accelerates quickly but the engine is noisy when you put your pedal to the metal - for instance, when merging onto the highway."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Very reliable and can handle any kind of weather or road conditions"

Anonymous, OK (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Subaru traction control is excellent for dirt-road hill climbing. Only one wheel needs to have traction for the vehicle to be able to move."

ROBERT B., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"i have driven across the US two times from New Jersey to Boise Idaho and two time to San Jose California. The car drove extremely in all conditions and terrain."

JOE B., NJ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It's just a good solid, safe feeling car - braking and acceleration is excellent,."

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"All wheel drive is great! Downside is that the automatic transmission can't be downshifted (from say 3 to 1 for bad road conditions or steep grades) but handling is great."

MARY F., MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Slow acceleration. Noisy engine but great in snowy conditions."

Anonymous, OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Handles better than any other car I have owned in the snow/ice."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Easy and competent handling. Good acceleration. Great around town and excellent in snow and ice."

TIMOTHY H., NE (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I sense that the four cylinder engine is capable of much better acceleration but, apparently, the computer restricts it. The throttle-by-wire lag and slowness in downshifting is frightening at times in heavy expressway traffic, such as when merging or needing to quickly accelerate for other reasons. I compensate by putting it into manual shift mode when I enter intense traffic situations. However, even then the slowness of the throttle response can be frightening."

BETSY M., VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Drives like it's on rails"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

Anonymous, TN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Its a little nervous on the expressway at high speed or when a big truck goes by."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Subaru Forester)

"This is the first all wheel drive vehicle I have had and it was an adjustment that it it is not as freewheeling as a two wheel drive. It slows quicker when at speed and foot off gas than I am used too. Maneuverability in snow is great."

JEFFERY H., MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Acceleration is adequate but could be better; engine tends to lug unless shifted manually in the sport mode, and gas mileage suffers accordingly."

Anonymous, CO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Road handling , reliability,"

John M., NS (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Drives as smooth as expected for small SUV. Not too much road noise at highway speeds. Feels like a small SUV around corner, with some sense of ridgity and tightness. Not floaty like the 2011 outback. Did well in 2" snow and ice on stock tires."

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

Steven D., CT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Love the AWD and it handles well."

Anonymous, MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"On one occasion switching the cruise control back on to a pre-set highway speed resulted in near-red-line RPM's which triggered the check-engine function, disabling the cruise control until the dealership could check the car. No faults were found and no charges resulted."

Michael M., NH (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Unless one is into very serious "4-wheeling or rock hopping" the all wheel drive will handle about any kind of road condition. (40 miles of gooey, 3-4 inch deep mud north of the Arctic Circle)."

Mark N., UT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I always feel as though I am in control of how the vehicle performs. Turn radius, braking, acceleration, and deceleration are all responsive to my input, increasing the level of control I feel over the vehicle."

"Winter driving is less stressful ??"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I have almost always driven sports cars and when I purchased the Subaru I was amazed at how closely the steering resembled that of my sportscars. Acceleration is very good for a 4 cylinder engine. Ride is comfortable."

Joe M., IL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I'm an art vendor on weekends and even with the car packed to the gills!! it corners and turns beautifully"

Patty H., RI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It does not respond quickly when depressing the acceleration pedal, but does when turning the steering wheel."

Sara W., TX (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I find I am always the "first out the gate" when a light turns green. The acceleration is very good, although there is some straining on the engine if I try to accelerate too quickly. The car itself seems nimble and responsive."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Smooth acceleration, love the boxer engine"

Scott Z., WI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It handles well, it has superior acceleration, particularly when compared to the new Forester or Outback models. Only the new Cross-tracks (not sure that is the right name) from Subaru has similar acceleration. Bad = rear brakes, very poor durability, had to replace pads & rotors 3 times so far, and I do not ride the brakes, I tend to coast to stops."

Robert G., IL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Drives very well. Not a race car, a little slow on the uphill acceleration, but no real complaints."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Responsive, handles well. Acceleration is only OK."

Mark T., MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

"4 cyl engine struggles when going up steep inclines -- this is the mountains so that is an issue -- wish the Forester would have had an option for a 6 cyl"

Anonymous, NM (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It corners and handles very well. Acceleration is good for a four cylinder."

Robert P., TN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"acceleration and handling are great"

Ken S., AB (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The All-Wheel drive is awesome on icy, wet roads. This is my 5th Subaru and I won't drive anything else. The other top feature of them is they don't break-down. I have never had a major repair on any of my Subaru's!!!!!!!!"

"I have snowy or sometimes muddy roads to drive and the all wheel drive gets me through almost anything. The acceleration is excellent."

Evelyn B., ND (2011 Subaru Forester)

"This car (with automatic transmission and non-turbo engine) can be terrifying when called up to accelerate quickly, as when merging into a high-speed highway. It hesitates to accelerate, then, in a panic, it double-downshifts and revs like crazy. I have learned to manually downshift ahead of time when I see the need coming up."

Betsy M., VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Handling in snow is wonderful. Acceleration is just so so, and seems to be a little worse as the vehicle ages. Nonetheless, we plan to buy another Forester when this one wears out."

Anonymous, UT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"This small SUV still has a lot of power, and handles very nimbly. I am very happy with its handling on highways. Road noise leaves something to be desired, as it tends to be loud with lots of squeaks."

Marcus C., ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Sound-proofing the cabin should be improved. Too much wind and road noise. Audio system quality is mediocre."

"Great turning radius, handles well even in snowy and wet conditions. Good acceleration, great breaking."

Karen A., MI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Very satisfied with the handling of the Forester, especially turning. Satisfied with the acceleration, although it is not as fast as the Crosstrek. As a commuter exposed to a lot of congested roads and erratic driving, the Subaru safety factor is very important."

"Acceleration is adequate. Where the vehicle shines is driving in adverse conditions including snow and rain. Even on dry pavement I can feel the AWD providing input when entering and exiting on/off ramps at speed. Its great visibility and manoeuvrability make this a great vehicle and delight to use in tight spaces."

Brad S., ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It handles very well. I especially like the tight turning radius which allows me to easily maneuver in tight places and park easily. Acceleration is very good, but not great; I can comfortably accelerate and merge on highways."

What Owners Say

"like the seats and overall finish but there is still significant road noise."

THOMAS C., IN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Wish that the seats were longer to provide more thigh support on long drives. I have noticed this is corrected in newer models"

JOHN L., NJ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Superior mobility in snow/mud. Some cabin rattles and wind noise. Rides fairly nice and is stable at all speeds."

ANTHONY L., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Driver's seat very uncomfortable."

KENNETH G., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Compass stopped working in less than a year after buying the car new. Front seats are not comfortable probably due to thin cushioning."

ED J., OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The engine noise and road noise is a little high. All else is good."

ROBERT P., TN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Lots of road noise and squeaks and creaks that I can't get rid of, but overall I am satisfied."

"Have no complaints with this vehicle. My wife, who is the primary driver loves it! Had some problems with the power steering belt slipping, but dealer fixed it at no cost."

JOHN R., GA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Road noise inside the vehicle cabin is high enough that I have to increase the volume on the radio while driving."

MARY C., MI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"One major reason I bought this car was because the seats were comfortable for by back. I have some major back problems but have driven comfortably, for long distances (7-8 hours at a stretch) without serious discomfort."

SANDY H., VT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Visibility while driving, seat height and comfort. It's exceptional when giving a ride to an elderly person who has hip/mobility problems. Great turning radius, can do a U-turn on a normal size street. Purchased the winter package (heated seats, etc) - well worth it. Amazing handling on wintery roads. This is the car I will drive as I age; it's perfect."

KAREN A., MI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The sun visors don't have the expander on them, simple and helpful for those of us not very tall."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Would like the automatic front seat position aadjustmennts on passenger seat. There is a lot of road noise at freeway speeds. Wish there was a way to make it quieter."

"A/C only worked randomly. For over a year it was in the shop (privately owned & dealer) and the problem was not discovered until the dash was entirely disassembled. Was NOT happy with dealer's assessments/handling the problem. They made me feel like I was crazy as it would work at their shop & not work for me during extremely hot afternoons."

NYDIA R., NH (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The seat that comes in the car is abominable!! I had to buy an after-market wedge to put in the seat, or I would have had to sell the car and get something else."

DANIEL M., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"While less noisy than former models, there is still too much noise in the cabin"

Anonymous, MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Forester great except it is too noisy - hard to hear music and converse over the road noise."

Anonymous, MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I wish the Forester was a little quieter on the highway. Also, the back seat curves on the sides near the door, which makes it more difficult to get three across with car seats."

MIRIAM B., IL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"On the positive side, I find the seats very comfortable and supportive especially the drivers seat. I would like height adjustment for the passenger seat and this was unavailable. I ended up installing aftermarket electronic controls for the passenger seat."

DAVID R., WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Front seats are not comfortable. No back support.Despite the formal facts, space is a bit short, for a (6'1) long legs driver. The rear seats are good!"

ERIC D., FL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Acceleration is not as quick as the 05 Honda even with a larger motor. Transmission is a 4 speed and suffers by comparison to the Honda with 5 speeds. The Subaru badly needs a gear between 3rd and High. Car is noisy at highway speeds above 40mph. At constant speeds around 50 mph gas mileage with cruise control on has been as high as 36mpg."

"A/C is weka heated seats are great"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Lot of road noise in cabin. When driving at highway speed it is very difficult to converse due to wind noise. Also the driver's seat sustained a one inch sized linear tear a week after the warranty expired (of course) and the Subaru dealer would not repair it, but instead, referred me to the company headquarters for follow-up. Subaru HQ offered a "one-time special loyalty customer" deal to repair it for "Only" $1,600.00. I was shocked at the price. I took the vehicle to an independent uphols"

RONALD M., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"A/C is quite loud and I rarely use it on it's two highest settings because of that. Ride is not the smoothest compared to my Toyota Sienna and my Nissan van that I drove previously. Still a bumpier ride with new tires."

Anonymous, MO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Seats are not very comfortable on a long trip. Cannot raise them high enough without cushions. Poor lumbar support. Hips are too low, should be at knee-level. Not at all ergonomic."

"A little loud, but great ride quality"

Richard R., OH (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Seats are very comfortable, good visiblity"

Anonymous, MT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It is a noisy ride at higher speeds. I have to turnnnup the audio, talk louder, or wear head phones."

Sara W., TX (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Seats adjust a number of ways to alleviate discomfort on long drives. Ride is good. Noise is more than I'd like."

Mark T., MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Ride is somewhat hard but secure"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Engine noise and road noise are a bit too much."

Robert P., TN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The road noise is excessive - can't always hear the radio without turning it way up."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Cloth seats are very comfortable with good lumbar support for average to tall people. Back seat is comfortable for passengers, especially the small ones in car seats. The ride feels very good, stable and safe on the road in various types of weather."

Anonymous, MI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The seats are very comfortable in this vehicle. They are motorized seats so one can get more comfortable by adjustment. The suspension is tight. Slight noise when stepping on brakes, considering just had new brakes and disc's installed."

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"No back support"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Seats fit well. I am handicapped and they are very comfortable."

Gerald G., NV (2011 Subaru Forester)

"This car is so rough riding and noisy (wind, drive train, and tires) that is is impossible to take on any trip that exceeds one hour. The driver's seat is comfortable, but not exceptional. This model year (2011) had the cheap passenger seat that is very low to the floor and few adjustments. It's horrible to ride in."

Betsy M., VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Great interior space, great view outward through all the windows. Probably the best visibility of any major car model."

David E., NC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"does not take bumps well...rather stiff feels every pothole even small ones..."

Jim H., NJ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Very comfortable car for regular driving as well as on road trips"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Comfortable and practical"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I have the basic level Forester. Yes, there is some noise. Yes, the seats are not the most comfortable. But the car is incredibly safe to drive. That’s most important to me."

Anonymous, IL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Seats for the driver and passenger are comfortable and the headrests provide support and would prevent whiplash in a crash. Road noise is minimal. Engine noise is a bit high at highway speeds for a 5-speed manual."

Anonymous, AL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It is rather noisy inside; seats/ride if fine"

S C., CO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"noisey"

Anonymous, OK (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Front seat comfort is awful. No lower back support. Must use additional cushion."

Kenneth G., CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Car lets in too much noise. The backround noise is annoyingMay consider another brand next time. Seat leather cracking. Poor quality. Will look for a smoother ride next time."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Lots of road noise."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Very comfortable for 4 adults in both front and rear seats. Great lumbar support and driver seat adjustability. Front includes space for 2 beverages, and rear allows for both a center armrest and beverage holders. Plenty of head and leg room. Good height for getting my elderly parent in and out. Winter package with seat heaters was a plus. Great visibility."

Karen A., MI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Car has rattles and creaks. Engine is loud due to high revving 4 speed transmission."

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Passenger seat only has manual adjustment. Not much padding or lumbar support."

Anonymous, MN (2011 Subaru Forester)

"comfortable driving position, but interior road noise is excessive"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The cushioning in the seats was slightly better than the other compact SUVs I looked at. But I'm 7 years older now (75) and I can't stand the seats for more than an 60-90 minutes. The many possible adjustments are very good but none can make the seats softer. The suspension is stiff, but I assumed that was normal for an SUV (this was my first one). Road and ventilation noise are pretty bad. I mostly travel alone, but conversation with the HVAC fans cranked up is not pleasant."

Anonymous, CO (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The seats are comfortable. There is a lot of wind noise inside the car."

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"It's a great price for a car of that size and it's one of the safest cars on the road."

ELLEN Y., NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"No mechanical problems and versatilty"

Anonymous, OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Brand new with the winter package buy-up it was only about $26,000 - several thousand less than the other small SUVs and AWD sedans that I looked at. Car insurance also low for this model. And came with a free cargo mat and discounted oil changes for life from the dealer."

KAREN A., MI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Back up camera is standard. Great in snow. Great visability. Can carry a large lawn mower or other lawn equipment"

Anonymous, OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"For $24,000 this car provided a lot of value, particularly given that it came with air conditioning, an okay radio, automatic transmission, alloy wheels, four wheel drive, and uncanny reliability (zero problems is five years and 24,000 miles)."

BETSY M., VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Go out and buy it !,,ll"

Anonymous, QC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Overall great value for investment in safety and realiability."

WILLIAM W., SC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"My Subaru is manual shift, which is why I bought it. Therefore, I have significantly less problems. I love the way the car handles in every kind of weather. I live at the top of a hill and have no fears of getting down in bad weather. My friends call it "Subaru envy" when the going gets tough."

LAURA F., CT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I believe that my Subaru Forester is reasonably priced for the features it provides compared to equitable vehicles in the same class."

KATHERINE Q., OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Very competitive pricing compared to Honda and Toyota and comes with AWD. Reliability has been good. Currently have 180,000 km."

BRAD S., ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"When I purchased the Forester I thought it would keep it's value better then it did. I paid cash for it and I thought it would last me for years. Not so! The value of this Forester is about the same as every other product (ford, chev, dodge, jeep,GMC) Bad value for your money."

L M., AB (2011 Subaru Forester)

"It is a great value. I only regret not getting a car with more luxurious features."

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Handles well in all driving conditions. Plenty of room in the interior. Mileage as advertised."

Anonymous, MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

"We also bought a 2012 Toyota Highlander to pull a 3500# trailer. Relative to the Subaru, it cost a lot more but is also slightly more comfortable and of course has more power. Would stay with the Subaru IF didn't have a trailer to pull."

TED K., OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Has over 90,000 miles & still works very well. Great price for SUV & serves our needs for storage space"

DORIS M., MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

"For the price, more size and features than others in its class at the time we purchased."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Bad value for navigation system (outdated and clumsy). Everything else had good value compared with higher end cars with same features."

Anonymous, AB (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Fantastic value for a 4 wheel drive vehicle with turbo. Here in Colorado though, you have a hard time finding your car as there are many duplicates in every parking lot."

ERIC D., FL (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Good value, comfortable, handles well and still looks stylish"

CHARLOTTE F., WY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Burns a quart of oil every 1500 to 1800 miles...that is too much oil use. The current recall from Subaru on the issue doesn't cover my Forester VIN number. Thus, my dissatisfaction."

KATHY L., OR (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Excellent driving in snow, very solid car, plenty of interior room for passengers, golf clubs and dogs"

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Good reliable car that wasn't outstanding. The Bluetooth to phone is annoying if you share the car. Acceleration not great, fuel efficiency not nice."

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The Forester represents good value for the $. It is not a luxury vehicle by any means, but we knew that when we purchased it. Love the purchase value and the repair cost has so far also been low."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The vehicle had total engine failure at 78000 miles and the company refused to stand by their product. This was particularly bothersome because the company image lead me to believe that they care about their customers. Instead I learned of corporate greed and dishonesty with both Subaru and the Subaru dealer being complicit."

Mary B., KY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I have the Limited edition and compared it to a few competiors. It handled great with the Boxer engine. In 2009 I found Subaru's list price were less than competition, gave less of a discount while others gave rebates, so they all ended up about the same. The Forester was just a better car just as you list it in CR."

Steven D., CT (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Reliable car that gets good gas mileage. It has served our family well with no major repair costs."

Eric C., NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The only full-time all wheel drive vehicle at this price level."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Base trim. Paid 23300 with transport fee. Holds avlue fairly well. No mechanical issues other when rats chewed through rpm sensor cable. Oil changed at dealership, a bit of "sweet" oil was spilt on the cable. Chicago rats chewed that night. Oil changes are more expensive than I had expected due to required synthetic. Gas mileage is surprisingly low. The better transmission came on board in 2012. We are looking to trade in for newer model with eyesight and leather."

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Nothing really special stands out, just a good over all value, dependable etc."

Anonymous, SC (2011 Subaru Forester)

Jack C., VA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"This is a very practical and comfortable car. It’s easy for older people to get in and out. It holds a lot of cargo, including wheelchairs and walkers. It drives well. The ride is comfortable. The 4 wheel drive is a plus. Acceleration is adequate wit the 4 cylinder engine."

Jeffrey K., MD (2011 Subaru Forester)

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"With just the recommended maintenance I have had no problems with this vehicle."

Gordon P., WA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Extremely reliable for the cost."

Gerald G., NV (2011 Subaru Forester)

"We use this vehicle for around town driving. It is reliable, easy to operate and not too bad on mpg. The one thing that we see for improvement is insulation. Road noise is loud."

Anonymous, IA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Excellent value, HOWEVER, I would be even much more satisfied and more inclined to buy another SUBARU if they would improve the mpg. It would be great if they put out a hybrid electric vehicle."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Subaru quality is fantastic. This car is very reliable. After seven years the reliability is still going strong. The economy of this car is very high for fuel, insurance cost and standard maintenance."

Anonymous, NM (2011 Subaru Forester)

"This car was a little more expensive than comparable SUVs when we bought it, but in 7 years the only major work it has ever needed was a brake job. Our Forester has been extremely cheap to operate."

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"It has a small footprint yet plenty of room for five people and luggage"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Forester)

"I like the exterior and inside look."

DENYS D., QC (2011 Subaru Forester)

"Generally good but they advertised it as dark gray and it is nearly BLACK. The seat covers are very cheap. Like the outward appearance. Would be happy if they made it a little smaller, similar to the original size years ago."

CHERYL P., WI (2011 Subaru Forester)

"The looks are OK, it's just that little pieces of plastic keep on falling off and sometimes you can't even tell where they're from. I've been saving them all, but the last time I went to the dealership, they couldn't even identify some of them. Pieces off the seat, around the seatbelts, for sure. The rest? Who knows?"
