Welcome to Consumer Reports.

We’re so glad to have you as a member. You now have access to benefits that can help you choose right, be safe and stay informed.
The Subaru Outback has a quiet cabin, a spacious rear-seat and a capacious cargo area. Handling is good in routine driving, but clumsy when pushed to the limits. With its four-cylinder engine and CVT, the Outback gets very good fuel economy for this class. Acceleration is just adequate, though, and the engine can be noisy when it's pressed. The optional six-cylinder engine is quieter and quicker, though less fuel efficient.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

“A terrific ride, handling, turning radius. Great city care in particular.”

Anonymous, AB (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I live in the mountains and travel a canyon road to get to the valley 3 - 4 times a week. If the need to accelerate arises, the acceleration is there. It's rather starting to be able pass quickly when needed, even going up a steep area.”

C H., CO (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Just two demerits: doesn't always have enough power to maintain speed or accelerate up large hills / mountains; and makes a lot of noise during acceleration. Otherwise we are satisfied.”

ROBERT P., NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Acceleration is adequate. Handling very good.”

PETER M., QC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Acceleration is satisfactory but not great. The one off road experience (going around a jackknifed truck on a back road in Nevada) show the advantage of good ground clearance and all wheel drive. Suspension handles rough surfaces well and makes for a more comfortable ride.”

NORMAN J., OR (2011 Subaru Outback)

“BAD. Rear view visibility is very poor for detecting another vehicle when changing lanes both to the left and to the right. A definite safety issue which would persuade me NOT to buy this vehicle again. Otherwise, fine.”

Anonymous, MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The 4 cylinder engine is just slightly under powered. It could use another 35 - 40 HP”

Anonymous, MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“4 cylinder engine really strains on mountain roads; transmission does not readily downshift to lower gears when situation calls for downshift.”

Anonymous, NC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“It doesn't hold on a slight rise as well as I think it should or, as well as say, the Jeep I had before did. But that was the only good thing about that Jeep.”

BETSY B., ME (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Wish the car had just a bit more power when merging onto the highway. The CVT doesn't provide that immediate response when you hit the gas. Plus, the CVT can be loud.”

TODD P., MI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Steering is not precise. Doesn't not return to center adequately. Sloppy steering during avoidance maneuvers and around corners.”

LYLE W., WI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Great acceleration no feeling of shifting”

JOEL S., OR (2011 Subaru Outback)

“impressive acceleration for a 4 cyl, handles more like a car than an SUV”

DAVID C., MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Will not accelerate well under emergency condition apparently due to vbt transmission.”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Big blind spot on driver's side”

Anonymous, MD (2011 Subaru Outback)

“THOUGH THE ACCELERATION IS VERY GOOD (6 CYL) THERE IS AN ANNOYING HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP (ALSO THAT CR NEVER REVIEWED THE MODEL WITH A 6 CYL)”

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The 2011 was the first year for the CVT transmission in the Subaru Outback and there is considerable shudder and over reach in the transmission that has begun to cause some unease in the future reliability of the vehicle.”

KEVIN S., VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Excellent pick up speed”

LARISA E., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Backing up difficult because of inability to view area completely. Serious hazard.”

Anonymous, MI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The CVT is outstanding.”

ROBERT C., WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“This car rides nicely and is fairly quiet. On start up it is very noisy and has little power. It let us down with some weird problem two times driving to and from Florida (1200 miles) when most of the dash lights came on and cruise control quite.”

WILLIAM M., DE (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The engine could be more powerful.”

JAMES T., VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I love the AWD with the flat 4. I plan to replace it with another Outback when the time comes.”

Anonymous, MD (2011 Subaru Outback)

“During a snow storm car handled very well on unplowed roads covered with especially slippery snow”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“direct steering is overly responsive thus requiring considerable driver concentration”

Anonymous, NB (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Engine (3.6 liter), transmission (5 speed automatic) and drive train are superb ! Steering, and handling have always been vague and sloppy. Ride has always been choppy and bouncy. One of these two conditions would be acceptable, but not both. I understand the manufacturer has improved handling and ride in newer models.”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Excellent handling for a midsize wagon. Corners with confidence and grips road extremely well under all traction conditions.”

Anonymous, OH (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Sure footed cornering and in all kinds of surface and weather.”

DIANA M., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The six provides excellent acceleration at expense of mileage. Handling is acceptable, but not great.”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The handling is responsive and assertive. We always feel very confident no matter what the weather or terrain.”

JUSTIN S., IN (2011 Subaru Outback)

“"All-Wheel" handling and traction control are outstanding.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Have 4 cyl model. Gets 22 city & 28+ on highway @70mph. Very good for awd model. Tradeoff is somewhat slower acceleration that you must compensate for on highway. Could use another 30 horsepower. And 6 speed trans. CVT takes too long to "spool up". Suspension is very compliant; great on highway. Great ground clearance.”

SAMUEL N., KY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“This car is surprisingly fun to drive on mountain roads and curvy highways. It handles well and feels solid and grounded. Acceleration is much better than expected from reviews I'd read before purchase. No problem quickly getting up to speed on freeways.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“With the larger 3.6l engine, the car is a lot of fun to drive. Acceleration is very good and is one of the major reasons why I like the car a lot. It also has excellent traction in bad weather like snow and rain.”

Anonymous, NH (2011 Subaru Outback)

“It's just not suited for agressive, snowy mountain driving. Too light, not enough traction. I'm scared a lot.”

BETH K., IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“City car: very tame, lousy mileage. Freeway mileage jumps overall to 23mpg. Mostly City car. Good car drive-wise for both situations. Like the paddle-shifters, makes driving more like the old stick shifts I grew up on. Acceleration is very good, country road handling good to acceptable.”

S M., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Very good in winter”

BEN K., ON (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Acceleration with 4 cylinder is not great, but gas mileage is!”

Anonymous, MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Slow acceleration with 4 cylinder”

Anonymous, FL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The 4 cylinder engine does not provide enough power to accelerate to my satisfaction.”

ANTHONY B., CO (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Under a full load the 4 cylinder engine a little sluggish”

Anonymous, MD (2011 Subaru Outback)

“My 5th Subaru, and all of them are outstanding in winter driving conditions.”

ED H., PA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Steering is a little slow to respond”

MATTHEW K., MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Comfort, usefulness, gas mileage all very good. Subaru has highest trade in value of any car according to Kelly Blue Book and the factory paint job makes it look outstanding”

FRED V., AZ (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The 6 cylinder engine is not needed for this vehicle. The four cylinder is probably sufficient.”

GLENN T., PA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The Subaru Outback handles extremely well for a vehicle of its size. Even when pushed hard into a corner, the vehicle remains stable and predictable, performing better than many lighter, smaller cars and SUVs. True to its reputation, the Outback is unbelievably capable in snowy weather.”

STEPHEN M., MD (2011 Subaru Outback)

“excellent in all areas.”

JAMES R., NC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Acceleration adequate not outstanding”

ROBERT G., MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Handles great in all type of weather. Very confident driving in all conditions thus far.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Lots of understeer and becoming a bit choppy on freeways.”

KEITH H., WI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“This all wheel drive vehicle has excellent handling in snowy conditions, which is the main reason I bought it. It can get out of partially cleared parking places that a two wheel drive vehicle would get stuck in,”

Anonymous, MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Slow acceration, 10.5 secs to 100 kph”

TONY P., ON (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Blind spots are VERY bad”

CHRISTINE G., BC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“This car is extremely solid and drives and handles very well for a car this size. Acceleration is quite adequate for our needs. It's no speed burner, but we weren't looking for that.”

Anonymous, SC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The main issue with the 2011 Subaru Outback is a hesitation to go in reverse from a cold start and the tendency to stall-out when under load when approaching a stop sign or traffic light. Issue has been addressed with dealership a few times but never resolved long-term.”

R W., AL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“handles well, comfortable”

BRUCE B., NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“We live on a mountain dirt road, about 12 miles from pavement. The Suburu rear wheels tend to collect mud a get out of balance. They are difficult to clean well. This seems very wrong for a car that's advertised as being designed for dirt roads. Other than this annoying feature, The Suburu handles well on snow and ice and for light off road travel.”

JANE B., CO (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Hesitation when accelerating. Probably related to cvt.”

ROBERT M., MN (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Car sticks to the road and handles well in bad weather, which was one of the main reasons we purchased another Subaru.”

Anonymous, OH (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Ice and snow handling are superb”

DAVID W., AR (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Backing up is problematic because you have to step on the accelerator to get it to start moving instead of just letting up on the brake as most cars do. I think this is due to the CVT transmission. This makes it somewhat more dangerous because if something comes behind as you are backing up, you need to switch peddles quickly to stop. It is also sluggish on accelerating.”

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I have the 6-cyl engine and get 32-34 mpg on the highway. AMAZING!!!!!!”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The acceleration could be better especially when merging onto expressways/interstates. I feel this ia a result of the CVT transmission.”

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“This car is the easiest car that I have ever had to drive.”

Anonymous, MI (2011 Subaru Outback)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Most comfortable long distance seats I have even used.”

Anonymous, GA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The seats, heated seats, climate control are very good. The road noise is well above expected levels and the ride is a bit rough.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Strongly dislike the climate control. Very hard to use while driving. Plus I don't feel the heating or cooling is strong enough. My feet freeze in the winter and we roast on hot days in the summer.”

WANDA V., OH (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Drivers seat very uncomfortable. I sit on a cushion.”

D C., IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seats are cloth and stain very easily. Subaru does not pretreat with a stain blocker. Car rides like a truck.”

CHARLES C., NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seats are not the most comfortable, manual climate control. it is a little noisy. I had an Infinity Q before and it was a better ride and more comfortable however it cost considerably more did not get the miles per gallon of the Subaru”

Anonymous, GA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Cloth seats get a stain mark from plain rain or water. A/C system should be more powerful for the volume of the wagon.”

C L., PA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Comfortable seats, road and engine noise, stiff ride.”

J N., IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Would like to have purchased edition with leather,Power and temp control like on my previous Subaru”

Anonymous, DC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seats and ride are exceptionally comfortable”

PETER M., QC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Front passenger seat less adjustable, thus less comfortable. Sun opening in roof is noisy.”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Overall, it's comfortable. Only issue I have is the noise level. seems more noisy than I would expect”

Anonymous, UT (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Comfort is great except the road noise. It is grim.”

GLORIA B., KY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The seats are not very deep, ending at mid-thigh. When driving long distances, my feet go numb. The AC works great, which is very helpful when I have hot flashes.”

CATHRINE G., MD (2011 Subaru Outback)

“This car is very comfortable to ride in, it is great for long drives. With the AWD, it handles very well.”

DAVE R., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Engine is noisy. Ride is hard on rough surfaces.”

Anonymous, IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Short wheelbase, ride is rough”

JOSEPH N., IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“leg room, plenty of space to put sports equipment, safe rating”

LESLIE V., FL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Roomy, comfortable, nice ride, enjoy driving it”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Very comfortable, handles well and accelerates well. Heated seats are great but the foot heating in the winter time is lacking. Getting fresh air out of the vent is frustrating and sometimes get a humid smell when I turn off the air conditioner. Modern cars depend so much on the automation that trying to manually control the climate doesn't always work but that is probably not exclusive to Subaru. Design of the car is great but it took me along time to get used to the loss of vision through”

Anonymous, NE (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The headrests are extremely uncomfortable for me and do not adjust forward or backwards. They seem to push your head forward.”

DENISE H., AZ (2011 Subaru Outback)

“HEY CR: I THOUGHT I WAS REVIEWING MY ANSWER, which is what the option said I could do. THIS IS NOW BLANK (some radio dots were too)---MY TEXT RESPONSE GOT ERASED. QUIT WASTING MY TIME! I BACK BROWSED ONCE ALREADY DOING THIS SURVEY AND MY ANSWER WAS ERASED THEN, TOO. I WILL DO THIS ONE MORE TIME, BUT THEN YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. PLUS, I KEEP WRITING THE SAME LIST IN EACH SPACE SINCE I CANNOT TELL WHICH AREA YOU'LL ASK ME TO EXPAND ON...LET ALONE SWITCHING BETWEEN THE TWO CAR MODELS RANDOMLY. YOU G”

Anonymous, ME (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The main problem with the Subaru is that it is very hard to see to back up and there is no camera system”

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Too much road noise”

RAE P., TX (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Lumbar support is good. Having heated seats is nice. Ride is fine and noise level is OK. This car handles quite well.”

JERRY S., NC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Handles the road very well. Very comfortable on long distance drives. Climate control and heated seats (when needed) are excellent. I like the all well drive for marginal conditions.”

NORMAN J., OR (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seats could be more comfortable. Need more adjustment options for driver's seat”

ROBERT G., MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The interior is a bit Spartan and the ride is somewhat rough and jumpy. Fairly noisy. Comfortable but not as comfortable as the Audi”

CHARLES S., MO (2011 Subaru Outback)

“would like more comfortable seats frout and back”

DOUGLAS S., MI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“No heat in back seat”

RON A., IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Very hard to cool down after being parked outside on a warm day. No rear seat vents. Noisy fan for both heat and cool. Volume knobs on Limited trim are too small.”

J B., TX (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seats are a bit too short. Gas pedal too soft/too little resistance. This causes leg strain.”

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seat heaters switches in a spot that often gets accidently turned on/off every time something crosses or something gets set in the drink holder. Bad placement. Original tires were very low quality and had to be replaced sooner than expected (tired of every tire getting low pressure, and tired of having to take car to dealer to check it out. They did nothing except add air but it was constant. Problem stopped when I went to Costco and got new tires.”

RITA P., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Interior noise level is quite high”

STEVE W., CO (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Road/air noise is bothersome: Perhaps he problem is styling around the doors. Heater stops after exactly one hours despite replacing there thermostat - mechanics could not check the computer setting. But the heater starts again after re-starting.”

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Cabin filter needs to be changed often because a "moldy" smell develops, otherwise, when car sits in hot sun.”

Anonymous, VT (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The front passenger seat is not comfortable. The back seats are more comfortable.”

PAT V., NJ (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The interior is spacious, the seats and driving position are comfortable, even for long periods of driving. Good climate control system. Very good handling, though the driver must always work to keep the car from drifting.”

RICK L., WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I am fairly satisfied with the driving experience of my 20011 Outback, especially in snowy and icy driving conditions. However, since I like a quiet car it is disappointing. My wife and I listen to audio books on long trips, and the book must have a female reader because a male is inaudible due to road noise. By far the most frustrating aspect of owning a 2011 Outback is that it is extremely sensitive to moisture in the fuel line. This car SHUT ITSELF OFF on the interstate during four different”

Anonymous, IA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Very satisfied. Comfort, climate control works really. Have a rattle on passinger side have not been able to resolve.”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Passengers have commented on the comfort when riding with me.”

Anonymous, WI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The electric seat and the heated seat a very comfortable”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The seats are very comfortable. We take quite a few long driving trips and are highly satisfied with the comfort. climate control. The ride is somewhat harsh, but then probably needs to be in order to carry the heavy loads of mulch, etc. that we use. Noise level is somewhat high, but not obtrusively so.”

Anonymous, SC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The seats in the Outback are some of the most comfortable we have ever had in a car. The heated seats (unusual on cloth seats) are a great feature in the winter as well. It is relatively quiet (main noise is CVT transmission) and it rides well on long trips. Very easy to do very long drives in this car.”

MICHAEL M., VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The Subaru seats in the Limited version are not well supporting and are too narrow for the larger guy.”

DAVID W., VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“We love this car!”

Anonymous, MN (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Chronic Issue with front right tire balance, handling and performance. The was a noticeable wobble and thumping at highway speeds. Had to replace the tire twice, first time at Subaru dealer and second time at tire shop, before problem was resolved.”

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Seat backs are too contoured for me. Would prefer a flatter seat back.”

JOHN H., WV (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Ride can be rough and somewhat noisy with some rattles.”

Anonymous, AB (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I like the idea that I can adjust the height of the driver's seat. handy when my taller drives!”

RICHARD G., OR (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Very poor air conditioning. Had it looked at by the dealer. They did not improve the system. The only comment was that the compressor was too small. I would not buy another Subaru unless it was demonstrated that the air conditioner was adequate.”

ROY E., BC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“right front passenger seat is too low to be comfortable for long trips”

Anonymous, VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“A little noisy seats could be more comfortable”

Anonymous, WI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I'm tall, 6' 5", and I've found the Subaru Outback one of the most comfortable cars for someone of my height. I also like the smooth shifting of the CVT.”

STEPHEN T., WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“AC is not cooling sufficiently in hot weather.”

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Not enough adjustment options for driver's seat, and zero room for right foot/lower leg to move to right of accelerator pedal. Very little convenient storage within reach of the driver.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“THE LUMBAR SUPPORT COULD HAVE UP-DOWN ADJUSTMENT AS I FOUND THE SUPPORT TOO HIGH”

Anonymous, ON (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Driver seat lumbar adjustment broke repeatedly. Was replaced seversl times under warrantee. After end of warrantee we gave up and use an aftermarket mesh lumbar support.”

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Subaru Outback)

“We love our 2011 Outback. It is comfortable and the seats are supportive. The one flaw with seating is that the seat fabric shows wear very easily and the light beige color stains too easily. Ride comfort is excellent and the car feels heavier than it really is; a rather reassuring feel, though the car handles easily. The noise level inside the cabin is well controlled and comfortable even for conversations when driving over noisy pavement. As for climate control, the fan needs one more s”

STEPHEN L., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Noisier than I would like”

Anonymous, TN (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The air conditioning goes out when accelerating”

VERN P., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The engine roar when accelerating is quite excessive and always has been. The CVT transmission response is very sluggish. The engine braking response is actually a safety concern because it accelerates during a long down hill, probably to keep the emissions sensor hot.”

TIM W., CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Climate control. excellent. Seats oknoise level is low.”

JAY K., NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“If I had been more informed of the features, I would have probably upgraded. I wish I had gotten the larger engine for the terrain where I sometimes need to drive.”

Anonymous, SC (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The car is noisier than I like. That is my only complaint about this vehicle.”

“Seats are somewhat small and lack support under thighs.”

Anonymous, WI (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Interior is noise”

Anonymous, FL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The ride is nicer than the Cadillac SRX which surprised me. I was never satisfied with the A/C unit always taken a longer then expected amount of time to cool off the vehicle.”

SCOTT D., NY (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The seats are very comfortable in both the front and back with plentiful legroom in both areas.”

JUSTIN S., IN (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Rear seats not too comfortable. Passenger cannot ride in front due to air bag recall”

Anonymous, CA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The seats stain easily, but can be cleaned.”

FLETCHER W., VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Noisy. Body tends to 'roll' when cornering. I will be installing a stiffer sway bar in the rear soon.”

JOHN W., VA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“seats weren't very comfortable so we had them recovered in leather and repadded.”

T K., PA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Electronic controls for driver seat - raise seat and it also goes forward. Lower seat and it also backs up. Wish there was a seperate control for up and down”

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Exceptional value for an AWD vehicle and it gets over 35 mpg in the summer and over 25 mpg ion the winter. Inside and outside, comfort and performance are great. One of the best automobiles on the market!”

Anonymous, MN (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Great price for the limited used. Very comfortable and good gas mileage for all wheel drive. Handles well in the snow. Acceleration in the 4 Cylinder is a little lacking but worth the gas mileage.”

Anonymous, CO (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Has been a VERY dependable car. Drove it off the lot & have not needed to take it back except for maintenance.”

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Subaru Outback)

“With the Outback we were able to get AWD and lots of other features for way less money than comparable vehicles. I work at a Ford dealer and they couldn't come close.”

Anonymous, IL (2011 Subaru Outback)

“My wife and I purchased the Subaru largely on its reputation for reliability. However, one rear wheel bearing failed at about 60,000 miles; the other at about 85,000 miles. At about 105,000 miles both front drive axles broke off from the transmission resulting in a $1,450 repair bill. The service manager at the Subaru dealer that repaired the drive axle problem acknowledged that about 50% of Subarus have a problem with wheel bearings. How can a car with that problem have as good a reputation”

MATTHEW C., GA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“i tend to buy an auto that is going to last a while, so i can use the money for other play toys. { at lease 10 year and or 250,000 miles. i think i will go for 300,000 on this one!”

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“Even though my car is listed as a station wagon, I feel that my car has the style of an suv and can carry even more . My Subaru will be kept and passed on to my granddaughter as a safe and reliable car”

MICHELE P., MA (2011 Subaru Outback)

“Beige interior shows wear on the seats and tough to keep clean.”

Anonymous, MD (2011 Subaru Outback)

“I don't personally like the rather bulbous front end styling of this vehicle although I realize that it is fairly standard. For example, I prefer the rather plainer styling of the Mercedes SUVs”

STEPHEN G., ON (2011 Subaru Outback)

“The car looks boxy. Previously owned a 1998 Subaru Outback. The 2011 looks like the 1998 on steroids, too puffed up. The 1998 was more streamline, a more pleasing look. I do like the 2011's ground clearance, as I drive in mountain winter snow.”

“We prefer the sleeker look of a wagon over the SUV styling.”
