More than just a wagon, the Outback is an intriguing alternative to a traditional midsized SUV. It has more cargo space than most seemingly larger competitors, less thirst for fuel, and a lower price. Functionally, it does everything most midsized SUVs can do -- except tow a heavy load. Subaru has split the difference between a wagon and a crossover, creating a winning combination.

Had it replaced and was working better but still consistent issues with lag in back up camera showing when in reverse and sometimes the guidelines don't show up either when reversing. Display screen difficult to see

Larry K., ON (2015 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited 3.6-L 6 Cyl)

"At night, the display screen is much too bright when in back-up display mode. It is so bright that it blinds me as the driver, and I have to cover it up to see anything. This means a) the backup camera is useless at night, and b) it creates more danger than if there were no backup display at all"

Anonymous, NE (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"On days when it is very sunny, and the sun shines through the car windows, the screen becomes a picture of zig zag lines and cannot be seen at all. This impacts the Navigation system , the radio, etc"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The display became increasingly difficult to see if the screen received any direct sunlight. The screen showed the contacts (sine wave like design about 1/4" inch tall in rows up across the entire screen from top top bottom) for the touch ability of the screen"

Timm B., CA (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Steven G., ID (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Screen has swiggly lines appearing and making it hard see and to read the display. Its a continuous problem and it cost $135.00 to have the navigation updated. This has occurred four times since we received the vehicle on Dec 13, 2014! Its not even covered by the expensive 7 year extended warranty!!"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Center display between mph & engine rpm went blank while driving and upon restarting showed data in compressed format about 1/4 size with lower 3/4 of screen a series of lines. Factory sent new screen to dealer with zero miles and now awaiting one with up to date miles so it can be reinstalled :-("

Anonymous, VA (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"When the slightest amount of light strikes the screen it feels with the squiggly sine wave type signal and prevents anyone from looking at or changing the radio or any of the other functions of the of the screen including back up camera which I feel is a safety issue. It needs to have a hood over the screen such as they have over the odometer and the tachometer built into the dashboard. I am so annoyed, I may trade the car in for another brand,I have notified both the dealer and the Subaru people of this.Despite the fact that I am generally very pleased with the car"

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"One specific complaint, but could be viewed as a safety issue. When linking to my iphone 6s using Blu-tooth, I will often use google maps and want to hear the voice directions. Sometimes I want to quickly turn up the volume to immediately hear directions when say a loud truck is passing by. Instantly my Music from my phone will start blaring, startling me and also making it hard to hear the directions. I can pause the music player, however, as soon as I adjust the volume up or down the music player un-pauses again---annoying and possibly dangerous!"

In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The placement of the screen is in a very poor location. When I am driving I cannot see the screen due to the glare of the sun. The screen needs to be recessed into the Dash and adjusted to be more perpendicular."

Harry D., CA (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"We learned the hard way that The navigation system was years out of date when we purchased the car. The dealership wasn't interested in helping update the system and sent me to the web to downloaded a $59 update. I did and nothing change. The navigation system doesn't recognize roads, highways, etc., that have been built in the past 5 years. We now use my wife's phone and google maps as we travel across the country."

"Has started intermittently freezing during navigation. Sometimes gets lost during navigation. Also, updates are expensive and inconvenient."

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited 3.6-L 6 Cyl)

"Purchase update map chip as no download system available but then got a refund :-) Sun glare makes screen hard to see :-( Voice guidance for turns up ahead not logical such as bear right vs. turn right at intersection and must rely on reading small print on nav system vs audible street name guidance :-("

David C., CT (2015 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited 3.6-L 6 Cyl)

"Clock will not change with daylight savings time. Phone system will not keep names and numbers in speed dial. The names stay awhile and then they are gone. ro GPS does not give traffic data accurately."

Carolyn B., IN (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"It was always very poor at navigation, giving mistaken directions, poor estimates for driving time, unable to find basic places, etc. We finally gave up & simply driver with a regular Garmin on the windshield. Would never pay for annual updates to such a terrible system."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Totally unreliable. Sends me off my route in insane directions. Cannot depend on it to get me to my destination. Use maps, mapquest and Google maps as a back up when it seems to go crazy."

Anonymous, GA (2015 Subaru Outback)

"I was sent a notice that the gps needs to be updated at a cost of $60.00. Around the same time, when my extended warranty was up, the gps started making numerous mistakes. It became unreliable. The phone worked better. I complained about this problem at the maintenance appointment last month. No solution even though I have less than 30,000 miles on it. I decided not to update the gps since it probably wouldn’t maintain it anyway."

"When bought, the voice was intermittent. They replaced a part and it works now. However, the Nav system is the most rudimentary I have seen on a recent car. It speaks in cave man talk "Turn right at corner" and does not name streets even though that function is turned on in the settings. The tracker is consistently about 100 feet off ("turn right in 100 feet) - when I am literally in the middle of the intersection). "The LCD display screen for the infotainment center (GPS/AM-FM Radio/SiriusXM radop/CD/Car information system/backup display, etc) developed rows of squiggly lines going completely across the entire screen. These rows of squiggly lines covered the entire screen. The display was difficult to view as a result. The dealer attempted to try to correct the issue by performing a firmware update on the system. The update did NOT correct the display issue and broke many of the functions of the infotainment system. At that point, the dealer ordered an entire new infotainment system and replaced the unit in my car with the new one. The entire system has worked fine ever since."

"Problems: accuracy of distances is usually off by 20 to 30 yards; has taken me to dead end wanting me to cross a creek to get to the road on the other side; has taken me down a road to find out it was a dead end; system has been updated and re-calibrated twice since new; freezes up and the screen has wave patterns on the screen; back up camera came on when I was in a forward gear travelling at 40 miles per hour - recalibration remedied the problem. Voice commands are not always 'accepted' - frustrating when you try to get somewhere and the system DOES not respond with accurate information - gave me instructions to go a long way around (17 mile detour) to get to a destination that I found out later could have directed me to take a much shorter route - caused me to miss an appointment with a specialist!!!"

Second rubber seal was replaced approx 6 months later. Repair left side view mirror locked in awkward position and needed to be corrected at dealer.
