What Owners Say
"Handles well"
Jim G., CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Good acceleration, crisp handling, and automatic correction features."
Robert T., AB (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is weak"
Anonymous, MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"Traded in our 2011 Outback for the 2018 Outback, love the improvement in the handling and love the acceleration of the 3.6 L engine!"
Mark B., NM (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car is amazing. it practically drives itself. keeps you in your lane, stops when vehicles in front of you stop. slows down on the highway when approaching another vehicle in front of you. if you turn on blinker to pass it will speed up. I absolutely love it"
Anonymous, NM (2018 Subaru Outback)"The acceleration for a fairly large vehicle is more than adequate for everyday driving. Handles well also"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Lane departure is a wonderful feature for handling."
Anonymous, WI (2018 Subaru Outback)"No complaints."
Anonymous, AR (2018 Subaru Outback)"Not as precise as a BMW but quite good in road handling. Very good acceleration with 6 cylinder."
Fernando L., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 6 cylinder engine has the power to pass at highway speeds and is smooth and relatively quiet compared to the 4-cylinder which is loud."
Bradford S., CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"The four cyclinder engine lacks sufficient power for passing on two lane roads."
Anonymous, MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"Better acceleration than the 2.5 "Boxer" engine"
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"4cyl. Poor exceleration. I wish I had purchased the 6cyl."
Bradley L., CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Good acceleration."
Anonymous, QC (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 2.5i is ok for light tasks. The 170hp is on the low side for the type. Acceleration is sluggish, even for a crossover. Gives great fuel economy for it's type though . Handling is superb for a crossover."
Abel P., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"the Eye-Sight feature is amazing; just wish that all vehicles had it."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Love the eyesight, makes me think more about where I am in my lane and how I am following vehicles. Most impressive. Acceleration is very good for size engine."
Anonymous, MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles well"
Anonymous, MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"We selected the Outback Touring 3.6R model because the standard engine did NOT seem to be satifactory on the test drive. We are so glad we made the decision. Our Subaru accelerates and handles like a dream...plenty of power, smooth acceleration, and rock-solid handling. I recommend the 3.6R Touring model without reservation."
Curtis S., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles well for a vehicle with good ground clearance."
Frank K., CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"After having driven a Prius (that I loved) for 13 years driving a vehicle that rides a bit higher and that accelerates more rapidly and predictably is a pleasure."
Anonymous, TN (2018 Subaru Outback)"very comfortable. good acceleration even for a small engine"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles great around corners and easy to park within the lines. Acceleration is good but could easily be better, but probably at the cost of gas mileage."
Anonymous, TN (2018 Subaru Outback)"acceleration off the line is okay but not so much after 30 mph"
Paul F., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"transmission is CVC which is not as good as shifting type"
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"acc. is fine no problems. steering seams to have to keep nudging a little a touch one way or the other"
Larry R., ID (2018 Subaru Outback)"It has been difficult to figure out the EyeSight feature - when we faced incredible fog on an early morning we lost the whole navigation & radio. Then the new Cruise Control/acceleration rate is flexible when following a car. At times I would like that feature turned off"
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"The V6 engine helps with the vehicle performance when it is necessary. The CVT provides smooth and constant acceleration which is easy to control."
D B., DC (2018 Subaru Outback)"Excellent handling and the acceleration is there when needed for merging. The handling is very good and the built in safety features are terrific additions to the handling of the car. It is an amazing vehicle."
Anonymous, ME (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 6 cylinder engine and continuously variable transmission gives very good acceleration, especially when merging into 60 MPH traffic in an Interstate highway. Avoidance maneuvering is very good."
Anonymous, VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 4 cylinder 2.5 liter is underpoweredfor acceleration"
Anonymous, MN (2018 Subaru Outback)"While driving it has a positive feel to the reaction vs actual handling any road condition. You feel in total control of the vehcle."
Dennis D., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"While the acceleration is less punchy than I thought it would be, the overall drive and handling grips the road. It's a pleasure to drive, and I always feel in control."
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"EyeSight is awesome. It makes interstate highway driving much more relaxing with the adaptive cruise control"
Joan H., NE (2018 Subaru Outback)"handles well"
Anonymous, CT (2018 Subaru Outback)"Is a fun to drive car, with excellent handling and acceleration. The cabin is quiet and if you roll down a window part way it is still quiet. Subaru safety second to none. People who haven't looked at a Subaru lately are missing out on an outstanding vehicle."
Anonymous, MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"It drives and handles very well"
Anonymous, CT (2018 Subaru Outback)"Use Subaru and Michelin winter tires. Live in far northern Michigan and this combination is most popular non-truck vehicle. Not a luxury."
Sandy S., MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 2.5 engine is really lame. It seemed fine for a test drive but in everyday driving it’s very annoying"
Kevin B., VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Powerful engine, very predictable handling"
Anonymous, MD (2018 Subaru Outback)"Absolutely love the automated cruise control where on interstate you can set speed and desired distance from vehicle in front of you. It makes highway driving easier and safer by far than just cruise control alone. For me, the 3.6R is a vast improvement over the 2.5 liter Subaru outback I previously owned. The acceleration and handling improvement is well worth the reduced gas mileage from the larger engine."
Anonymous, GA (2018 Subaru Outback)"I don't know what happened, but only a week or so after I bought this new Subaru Outback it suddenly wouldn't work at all. The tow truck driver also tried to start it to no avail. It tried to start, but it just wouldn't! We had to have it towed to the nearest dealership and then they couldn't find anything wrong with it! So we sort of have a waiting to see attitude about it,"
Marlene P., ID (2018 Subaru Outback)"Much faster on takeoff than I expected and this car handles great. Waiting for snow to see how it handles."
Paul A., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Eyesight adaptive cruise control works great. Other enhanced safety features are very much appreciated as well."
Jeff M., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is not a corvette, but for an average person the acceleration is more than adequate. The handling is solid, stable, and maneuver's are safe. The turn radius is outstanding."
Gordon J., UT (2018 Subaru Outback)"I read everything I could find about the Subaru Outback before purchasing and I believe that I purchased a extremely safe and reliable vehicle. My wife is also impressed with the vehicle to include it being very responsive when accelerating. The brakes are extremely good as well. I would own another Subaru Outback."
Anonymous, WY (2018 Subaru Outback)"electronic auto safety"
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Eye-sight functions are mostly helpful. Auto headlight dimming is not optimal for country (rural) driving. It dims headlights for road sign reflections but doesn’t bring it back to high beam quickly enough to easily watch for deer. Auto dimming is great for oncoming cars."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Fast response to acceleration and braking and steering"
Anonymous, KS (2018 Subaru Outback)"Not enough power for the size of the car"
Bill C., CT (2018 Subaru Outback)"Superb acceleration and handling, both highway and 4wd roads. We have the 3.6 engine and are very happy w it’s performance. The car handles extremely well."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"see prior comment"
J D., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"It drives ok. The lane drift feature is annoying. It is constantly beeping for no reason. Acceleration is just ok. Nothing but problems with radio and Apple Play. Subaru has not found a solution."
Bonnie H., NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"We've had some really big tropical storms and fooding. The Subaru handled beautifully even with flooded roadways. No skids, no loss of traction"
S S., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"It has intuitive controls. When entering into a curve the car tend to go straight and have to pull steering wheel to correct . Only thing have to get used to about the car. But have to be alert"
George C., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Drove the fully packed car across the country and back, on all kinds of roads, mountains and flat terrain at different speed limits and the car handled well. Acceleration was adequate, road noise was low , better than my previous outback. Av mph 30, for the 2800 mile trip"
Richard K., CT (2018 Subaru Outback)"I love everything about it. Great acceleration, great suspension on curves. The only thing that bothers me is when the auto-lane correction feature is turned on, the car turns itself back into the lane too abruptly when on curves...so obviously this feature should be turned off when on curvy roads, but it works well on straight stretches and in multi-lane traffic on relatively straight highways."
Dale F., ID (2018 Subaru Outback)"Quick response -great cruise control"
David H., OH (2018 Subaru Outback)"The CVT is weird....so much hesitation and surging....Dealer Service Dept told me that it is normal which means that there is a design flaw....CVT is constantly searching for most efficient RPM which means car is jerkiy....very unpleasant....sorry I didn't notice when I test drove and amazed(!!!) that CR hasn't mentioned it."
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Good power and great handling"
Thomas W., VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"navigation map"
Anonymous, ID (2018 Subaru Outback)"The acceleration is far superior in my 6 cylinder model to my previous 4's , but because the car sits higher, hence center of gravity corresponding, the handling is not as good."
Pat B., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Smoothness. Feels peppier than our 2016 did."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Floaty handling, not solid. Lackluster acceleration. Very disappointed."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"See prevgood pick up"
Anonymous, MD (2018 Subaru Outback)"3.6 liter 6 cyl. engine is much more powerful than the 2.5 liter 4 cyl. The difference when accelerating and when towing is remarkable."
Edward J., WV (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles almost as well as my previous Audi Q5"
R C., ON (2018 Subaru Outback)"handling is very good"
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Have the 3.6 L V6 and has awesome power and handling... The symmetrical all-wheel-drive is nothing short of awesome !"
Mark-Kaydell P., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"very high quality of construction and attention to detail. performance is very good. good balance of performance and comfort. excellent visibility. could use better OEM tires."
K D., MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"The Outback handles more like a sedan than my previous vehicle (2010 Nissan Murano) did, and I like that a lot. Acceleration is not as peppy, but is adequate and I feel more in control. The Murano was too inclined to take off like a jackrabbit."
Wayne H., OK (2018 Subaru Outback)"The engine is a little quieter and the gas pedal is less touchy than our 2016 Outback, and everything else is just as good."
Anonymous, IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"just superb, supple, responsive"
Carol A., NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 4 cylinder engine is adequate and very economical."
Anonymous, AZ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Ample acceleration to merge into traffic. Handling is great as the vehicle secure in all conditions and turns. The auto following cruise control takes a lot of stress off during long trips, reducing fatigue."
Bradley J., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is very good and handling meets our needs. We are not sporty drivers. Emergency handling is top notch, better than we expected thankfully. We do experience some vehicle lean in hard corners due to the ground clearance of our vehicle."
Wid H., CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Poor acceleration especially from zero to thirty or thirty five m.p.h.."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"I have the Outback with the 4 cylinder engine and the acceleration and handling are great. For a 4 cylinder engine, I think it is peppy. However, my son who lives in Atlanta also bought a 2018 Outback but went with the 6 cylinder engine for better acceleration on on-ramps."
David R., TN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very responsive. Shift paddles work very well."
Stephen S., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"acceleration and handling are good"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Traction is very good, vehicle sticks to the road very well, and the AWD system is very effective from day to day driving through limited traction situations and light off-roading. Engine is a little underpowered; the 3.6 gets much better power, but at the expense of gas mileage."
Anonymous, KY (2018 Subaru Outback)"The performance is quite adequate for this type of vehicle - it pulls strongly on long uphill grades, although does not accelerate quickly at highway speeds. (It wouldn't be fair to compare it with my Audi A4 in terms of acceleration and handling, though.) The vehicle has sufficient mass that it doesn't respond instantly to throttle inputs - but that is not unexpected."
Ronald B., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration from first gear is too abrupt for me. I prefer a smoother application of power and it’s tricky to modulate. Handling is ok in city driving and good for highway driving. Overall I like the smooth shifting of the variable ratio automatic transmission compared to any previous vehicle I’ve driven. In addition the transmission downshifts very smoothly which is a great aid for driving in hilly terrain using cruise control."
Anonymous, KY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handling is excellent on this vehicle with the low center of gravity created by the boxer engine and the full time all wheel drive."
Jay F., PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Quiet and very capable."
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles so nice. Pick up speed great"
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"One of the best handling cars especially in the winter we have ever had"
Roger L., VT (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car was available with a 6 cylinder engine which makes it a better performer than all of the competitors' 4 cylinder engines. E.g. Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, etc. all come with 4-cylinders. The Subaru was available with a 6 which is what I bought."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"The H-6 Outback has good acceleration and the CVT switches gears smoothly. Permanent AWD and the Eyesight safety suite assist in providing a safe ride."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"I like the ease of driving and controlling this vehicle. The acceleration is smooth and the handling great."
Anonymous, MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles extremely well, but acceleration can be a bit jerky."
Debbie D., IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"WOW! WE have the larger engine and in only 9 months have put almost 20,000 miles on the Subaru. So much highway driving and my husband and I are both so pleased with its acceleration, handling, and how quiet the engine is when accelerating."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"accelerates and handles great on freeway and in the mountains with 6 cylinders"
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"I like the responsiveness of the vehicle and especially like the back-up camera, however, I am sometimes disconcerted by the lane departure steering in that it seems to cause the steering to be jerky in some curves and when the road is narrow. I feel like I'm fighting it."
Anonymous, IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"It drives smoothly and quietly with ample acceleration"
Anton B., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Great acceleration, handles easily even with awd."
Keith M., OH (2018 Subaru Outback)"I have the 2.5 engine and have no difficulty with driving on expressways."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"When accelerating from a stop, the transmission is not smooth."
Anonymous, VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Great acceleration with the 6 cylinder engine and good handling around curves"
David M., NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"solid"
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Superb handling and braking on the 2.5 L version. It's very well balanced, but it is still a 4 cylinder built for fuel economy, not a zippy Porsche even though there are ridiculous paddle shifters."
Anonymous, KY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handling and acceleration are both great. Much better acceleration than the 16 Outback this one replaced."
Anonymous, AR (2018 Subaru Outback)"comfort"
Richard T., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"the comfort and style of this wagon is spectacular. the ride is smooth and you forget that you are driving a wagon, it feels more like a luxury car. we love that there is so much versatility with the cargo capacity, and cannot wait to use it for trips to the hardware and on family vacations"
Anonymous, MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"My Outback accelerates and handles as well as a much heavier car with a more powerful engine."
Doris I., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"When I close the door it has the feel of full size sedan. For a 4 cylinder it has good acceleration and control. The only thing I wish it had that my Murano has is to double click on the remote's unlock button and the front driver/passenger windows will fully letting that SC blast of heat escape."
John M., SC (2018 Subaru Outback)"Drives great, has adequate power and handles extremely well."
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 4-cylinder is more lively than I thought it might be. I am more cautious in passing situations than I was when I had a V6 Venza but that's a good thing I've concluded. Ride is stiff and truck like but it gains handling from it. Can go round corners safely much faster than you might think."
Anonymous, ON (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is quick"
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"Actually, the "eyesight" system, when engaged handles acceleration and maintains safe separation as well as lane position."
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Needs more power. Doesn't accelerate as quickly as I am accustomed."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"It has a lot of acceleration, which was a concern of ours before we got the car (and this is why we got the 3.6R instead of the 2.5i). I feel like I have complete control of the car during the whole time."
Carl Y., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very pleased with the 3.6R acceleration with the CVT. Passing and merging are never an issue."
Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Comfortable ride, good acceleration"
Anonymous, RI (2018 Subaru Outback)"Peppier than previous 4 cylinder Outback."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"The driving position is excellent. Acceleration and handling are very good."
Anonymous, KS (2018 Subaru Outback)"Outback is an easy to drive vehicle with sufficient acceleration to comfortably keep up with traffic in town or on the highway. All wheel drive is ideal for all seasons and virtually all road conditions."
Anonymous, AR (2018 Subaru Outback)"Car drives very smoothly, is very quiet, and is roomy for multiple passengers."
Anonymous, DE (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 6 cly boxer is swift and responsive without hesitation. The cabin provides a sensation of safety and security."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"They changed the cruise control buttons from the 2016 legacy and it was not an improvement. Now to adjust by one mph you need to look away from the road. The 5 mph adj is still ok."
Laura B., WI (2018 Subaru Outback)"The Outback rides very similar to the Audi A-4 I used to own. Steering is precise and predictable, no body lean. Powers right through turns and steers easily. Suspension absorbs bumps and they are not felt by the driver. I find the acceleration with the 4-cylinder entirely adequate, with plenty of pep. I do not need the lower gas mileage and increased power of the V-6, and the six adds significantly to the vehicle cost. The 4-wheel drive is like a tank in rain and snow - surefooted and not even a hint of slip. This is our third Subaru - we love the Subaru drive train and these vehicles are reliable and a great value."
Charles B., NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"It practically drives itself."
Kathy K., MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"handling is good, acceleration somewhat weak (it's a 4-cylinder, so that's to be expected)."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"bad: steering automatically tries to adjust, very difficult driving on bumpy or a road with poor pavement condition while trying to avoid obstacles; potholes, etc. this feature is quite irritating. also handling in turns is only mediocre. good: brake assist is very useful. self adjust cruise control is very good feature too. automatic high beams extremely useful. 3.6L engine makes a lot of power, I can hitch a trailer with motorcycle and car does so with confidence."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"6 cylinder has "pep" when merging into traffic and passing. Outback tracks well on curving back roads."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"The lack of power at highway speeds is less than I had expected."
R H., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"all good"
R A., UT (2018 Subaru Outback)"I have the 4 cylinder so acceleration is not strong, but I do like the transmission. The handling is not agile but it is surefooted thanks to AWD"
Peter J., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very solid but nimble feel. Accelerates smoothly."
James M., VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The car handles and drives well. When the Starlink is working (and it hasn't been very well), it is very good. It is comfortable and handles well."
John T., PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Fairly good. The standard 4 cyl. is a bit anemic, and the lane departure feature is a bit jerky."
David J., MN (2018 Subaru Outback)"this is my first 4 cylinder car in many years. The acceleration is excellent - no hesitation at all. Handles very well. I’m very please with the car. I recently took a trip from New Jersey to Maine. There were no issues driving in heavier traffic with the eye-sight feature."
Donna T., NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"I was amazed at how well this SUV handles! The V-6 engine gives great performance. The tight steering radius makes it a breeze to park and manouver. Impressive fuel economy for a good size SUV. Fabulous vehicle!"
Anonymous, NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Navigation system is extremely poor. Did not work on delivery. It took 4 replacements to get a unit that works. Now after 4 months of functioning, it has failed. Harmon Kardon is a very poor choice. When it did work, it was very clumsy to use due to poor design. Why do in-car navigation systems always perform so poorly compared to after market dashboard models?"
Jan G., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"handles well for a small car"
Manny Q., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"It has extremely smooth acceleration and handling. The cruise control is great"
James C., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Has eyesite, which will stop your car if engaged and you miss seeing something come up. Also tells you when someone is in your blind spots."
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"I feel very secure in this vehicle, great acceleration, handles very well on the road, it is not a sport car. Assured breaks."
Enrique E., OH (2018 Subaru Outback)"3.6 cylinder has great acceleration"
Anonymous, MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 3.6 litre 6 provides plenty of power for merging and passing. Handling is good for the size of the vehicle. I would not purchase the 4 cylinder model."
Raymond B., PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handling is very tight and responsive. The 3.6 has excellent acceleration"
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Much easier to never make a mistake while driving, changing lanes, backing up"
Nicholas H., NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 3.6R six cylinder engine is very smooth and quiet. We have had 4 cylinder Subarus, and though adequate, acceleration is lacking at highway speeds, as well as up hills, and the engine can get noisy as it strains in these conditions."
Anonymous, NH (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very smooth ride with excellent acceleration"
Anonymous, BC (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handling, driving comfort, and SAFETY!!"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"It has good acceleration (6 cyl) and pretty good handling for a car its size."
Len C., PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 2018 is a replacement for the 2015 which was totaled when it was struck from the rear. This car saved my life and so I find the safety features most significant. However, the handling and acceleration have saved me from other careless drivers. I live near Greer, SC recently found to be the worst drivers in the USA."
Anonymous, SC (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car is brand new for me. I’ve owned it just two and one-half weeks. I’m still learning it’s technical capabilities. I am very impressed with its safety features, especially Eyesight."
Mervin W., SC (2018 Subaru Outback)"Blind spot detection an automatic braking when using cruise control very effective. Also feature routing us around a bad freeway accident in California was a surprise because I didn’t know feature existed"
Nora M., OR (2018 Subaru Outback)"Seems to have more power than our 87, 1999, or 2002 Subarus but then this is our first automatic as compared to manual transmissions."
Peter M., OR (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 6 cycle is a big improvement over the 4 cycle. When I exit my subdivision I have to immediately merge into 55 mile zone. The acceleration is much smoother. Yet I still worry about getting up to speed fast enough."
Dan D., ID (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is less quiet and has a harsher ride than my 2012 Outback. Performance is fine. It is my first automatic transmission and it is taking some learning."
John D., MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"great acceleration and mileage for the size of engine. AWD system gives a feeling of confidence that the vehicle will be safe in all weather conditions, especially rain and snow."
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Seems powerful enough with 4 cylinder. Safety features helpful"
Anonymous, BC (2018 Subaru Outback)"The acceleration and handling are very much improved. The gas pedal is not as touchy as before, moving from stop to go is very smooth and the acceleration is quicker and also smoother. No transmission jerks. The ride is smoother and quieter too. Feels like an expensive car."
George R., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The Outback engine lacks power. Does not get great mileage as an offset for this."
Anonymous, KY (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car is incredibly comfortable and easy to drive. I absolutely love the Eyesight safety features! The automatic breaking already saved me from an accident. The cruise control makes driving long distances, which I do frequently, less tiring and safer. All the safety features are worth every penny!"
Terri F., IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"6 cyl has very good acceleration."
Jerry K., AZ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handling is excellent, but acceleration is poor"
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Accelerates quickly and handles better than previously owned Toyota. Downside with 3.6R is the mileage."
Anonymous, DE (2018 Subaru Outback)"It's great!"
Bruce T., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Good acceleration. Handles well on the interstate."
Anonymous, AL (2018 Subaru Outback)"It handles fantastic!"
Ricky R., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Great for most of the time, but a bit under powered for driving in the Rocky Mountains"
Dick M., SC (2018 Subaru Outback)"the total car is outstanding"
Jack L., SC (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is the best driving car I have owned."
David S., ME (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 3.6 six cylinder engine has lots of smooth power and is getting great mileage."
Mark F., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Starts fast, holds the road, turn around is tight."
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Appearance of exhaust system rear view is somewhat drab."
Blake M., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is excellent, throttle is smooth. Handles corners, curves like a much smaller car."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"quick acceleration"
Richard N., PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is better than expected for a vehicle in this class. Handling into corners feels better than expected for a wagon."
Justin H., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Excellent acceleration -- really too good (have to watch my speed). Handles well on curvy roads."
Anonymous, GA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very safe with EyeSight system."
Ann S., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"Safety features of EYESIGHT!!! Self braking and steerage prevents backups into/over objects that driver can’t see yet like people walking/cars turning into my path of travel. Mirrors have lights indicating vehicle in blindspots or in lane I’m signal king to move into or are passing me!!"
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Accelerates well. Handling is more than adequate, but not inspiring. Combination of tires and road clearance."
Steve S., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"very sluggish on handling disappointing acceleration."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"I like the audio, I really like the side view mirror warning lights when there is a car in the drivers blind spot. I frequently dive on I-95 in the Philadelphia area and this feature is very helpful. One point about the Subaru in general is that the seats are somewhat uncomfortable, lacking cushion, the longer the drive the more hard and uncomfortable they feel. People mention this particularly about the rear seating."
Anonymous, NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very good control driving in mountains."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 3.6L engine in the Subaru provides ample power for passing, and the handling is nimble."
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"very happy with it's performance.both acceleration and handling are what i expected."
Anonymous, OH (2018 Subaru Outback)"fun to drive- handles great"
Marilyn S., KY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Sometimes there is a tug on the steering wheel in a different direction than straight ahead."
Anonymous, DC (2018 Subaru Outback)"I’m delighted with the smooth responsiveness of the engine and transmission when I merge onto the Interstate highway. It’s also much smoother than my 2013 was when I’m driving in town."
Gerald B., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"The all wheel drive system used on the Outback is bar none the best all wheel drive system. It is very sure footed in the snow and ice."
Anonymous, IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"boxer 6 cyl. very responsive. handling firm."
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"In general acceleration is okay at lower speed levels. The car could use more power when passing at higher speeds."
John T., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"CVT transmission pretends to be shifting. Is smooth and quiet. Ride is smooth."
Joel P., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"ALLTHOGHT THERE ARE NOTICABLE PROBLEMS, I AM VERY PLEASE WITH THE CARE AND IT PASSENGER AND CARFGO CARRING."
Richard R., WI (2018 Subaru Outback)"The acceleration is too slow and makes merging difficult. Otherwise the car drives and steers well. Goes well is deep snow. The ride is very comfortable."
David M., WY (2018 Subaru Outback)"You didn't provide safety as a factor. This is where the Subaru with EyeSight stands out, though it can be a little intrusive and goes completely dead in a heavy rain due to cameras"
Richard O., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"great handling, fantastic in snow and ice"
Anonymous, IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car drives really well and accelerates quickly when merging onto the freeway. Curvy country roads this not a sport car but does handle the road well."
Anonymous, SC (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 4 cylinder engine is underpowered. I selected it to get the better mpg, but running it in the summer with the a/c running full blast results in mediocre. A turbo 4 would be nice"
Robert C., NV (2018 Subaru Outback)"Lacking acceleration could be better.Handling good."
Tommy P., NM (2018 Subaru Outback)"I love the handling (ease of turning, etc.) and acceleration of this vehicle. I own a 3.6R."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"One of the few horizontally opposed 6 cylinders available, and rumor has it it's going away in the near future. It's a shame because of the very flat torque curve and balanced power delivery. All-wheel-drive system is probably the best in the business."
Anonymous, MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"The Outback handles reliably and consistently. Sometimes I wish it had more power on hilly interstates but I did not want to suffer the decrease in gas mileage with the larger engine. In Chicago driving the car is perfect."
David N., IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is not outstanding , probably equal to my 2008 CRV, but I can remember when 0 to 60 in 10 seconds was pretty good time for many V8’s. Handling on curvey mountain roads in western North Carolina is superior. One of the best features of the car is being to stay on cruise control even when confronted by heavy expressway traffic."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is adequate with the 2.5 engine but thought would be a little better. Handling is very crisp and enjoy driving the vehicle"
Anonymous, CT (2018 Subaru Outback)"All wheel drive, safety on slippery roads."
Bruce D., MI (2018 Subaru Outback)"The acceleration is good, and the handling is excellent. But I expected good acceleration with a 3.6 liter engine."
Anonymous, MD (2018 Subaru Outback)"CarPlay is inconsistent. Sometimes it doesn’t recognize my phone and will charge only."
Jennifer M., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"excellent feel while driving, tight and crisp"
Donald C., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Doesn't accelerate as smoothly as I expected."
Anonymous, MD (2018 Subaru Outback)"Vehicle has a stay-in-lane corrective. It's unnerving when it operates: feels like sudden loss of control (steering feels "squishy")."
J M., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"ACCELERATION IS ACCEPTABLE BUT NOT QUICK. HANDLING IS STRONG AT THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT DOES NOT HANDLE WIND WELL."
Richard R., WI (2018 Subaru Outback)"Larger boxer engine a real plus with good acceleration and little engine noise. Build quality excellent. Still getting used to all the smart features."
Anonymous, VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"I like the blind spot safety feature, the crossing lane warning, automatic lights feature, automatic braking—all part of eyesight."
Dick D., IA (2018 Subaru Outback)"My big concern was in having enough power . At first I wanted the 6 cylinder motor but after driving the model extensively, decided the 4 cylinder had plenty of power. The AWD gives this car a lot of control especially in cornering."
Steven T., OH (2018 Subaru Outback)"Surprised at the acceleration considering it's a 4 cyl."
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"It drives and handles much better then I thought it would. Nice quite ride. You can talk to anyone, front or rear, and they can hear you. The car accelerates well and boy can it stop. Very pleased with it so far."
Anonymous, IA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very happy w 6 cyl, but might have been just as happy w 4 cyl."
Anonymous, NV (2018 Subaru Outback)"Zippy with the 4 cyl. handles great"
George H., NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"I splurged for the 6 cylinder engine and am glad I did. Easily accelerates in all situations and handles great"
Robert R., NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Accelderation is good ,but the engine noise level while accelerating is more than I have experienced with in other cars."
Larry G., IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very good acceleration, ride and handling."
Bruce D., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"It accelerates well and handles easily. It is much better than our previous 2000 Toyota Sienna. The Sienna was showing its age after 17 years and 185,000 miles."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"slow acceleration steering too loose if you hold it steady the car weaves a little back and forth"
Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Love the navigation system that shows where you are in real time and the dashboard lighting and organization"
Leslie V., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"We traded our 2016 Subaru Outback in for the 2018 because we felt the 2016 was underpowered. The 3.6R engine fills the gap! Car is much improved with this powerplant."
Kenneth B., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is much smoother than I expected based on all the comments I read about poor acceleration. It doesn’t take off like a rocket but it gets up to speed well and is very comfortable at speed."
Tom R., MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"I have a 2011 outback with the 2.5 engine. I thought I would enjoy the 2018 with the 3.5 but I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be with the extra horsepower. Mileage is decent for a 6 cylinder."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"very smooth and responsive"
Anonymous, LA (2018 Subaru Outback)"surprising quick for the weight using a 4 cylinder engine and very good handling"
Anonymous, NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"The boxer four cylinder has more get up and go than I initially thought it would in this size car. The CVT is seamless and instantly finds the best drive ratios. I also drove the six cylinder model and although slightly quicker It came at a significantly higher cost. Plus, the Subie four banger gets a legitimate 26 mpg combined and as high as 32 mpg on the interstate at 70+ mph. Handling is much better than expected in this type of vehicle."
Susan M., VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Plenty of acelleration with 3.6 liter engine. Handles well"
Anonymous, NJ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Great compared to the 2.5 equal to my RDX"
Harold S., VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Adequate acceleration; handling is superior."
David S., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"steering is greatly improved over the 2015 previous model. Vehicle is pleasantly responsive in all situations."
Dearl O., WA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very solid handling, tight turning radius, has good acceleration and braking."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 4 cylinder engine could use a turbo in order to make highway merging not as exciting an experience. You really need an extended distance to get up to highway speed. If all you do is city driving, it is fine."
Anonymous, CO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very good overall. However, 4-cylinder drive is bit noisy on hills."
Harold G., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"V6 is smooth and punchy. Excellent acceleration. Quiet and strong."
Joanne S., TN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Tight handling and great acceleration"
Jim-Jo S., NM (2018 Subaru Outback)"AWD handles well in bad weather and snow."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"I like the 6 cylinder excelleration"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"smooth riding and handling. quite no road noise. good acceleration"
Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"The automatic transmission is a CVT which, by its nature should provide smooth, steady acceleration and instant power delivery. Instead, it is saddled with simulated "shift points" to emulate a less-capable and refined geared transmission. WHY!!!? Instead of instant throttle response, the computer has to think about it and simulate an abrupt pseudo "downshift" to keep up the charade. This severely blunts driving enjoyment and satisfaction. I would probably not buy this car again."
Ken K., CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Solid feel, great acceleration with the 3,6, above average handling."
Anonymous, MA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Safety"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"I was looking for a vehicle to get the job done with not expectation of being exciting to drive. I do not miss my old Outback 3.6R with the five speed transmission. Enjoy the smoothness and relative refinement of the CVT. Just wished the 2.5i engine would have reserve power to merge on highways with short ramps and to pass other cars."
Michael T., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"Sure-footed with AWD, but acceleration from the smaller engine isn't great for high speed passing or mountain driving."
Anonymous, AZ (2018 Subaru Outback)"We got the smaller engine and it does not accelerate as fast as I would like at times but I’ve always taken this into account when merging or preforming other tasks that require acceleration. The smart features make this car fun to drive. I’m always amazed when the car brakes in traffic and it feels as if the car is looking after us. Love this car!"
Larry K., NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles well accelerates quickly smooth ride fun to drive"
James W., NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"Car feels sturdy, handles extremely well around corners, lane changes, etc."
- J., IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"driving on all road conditions"
Frederick J., AK (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car is jumpy off the mark, but I knew that when I purchased it; it just requires some adjustment to it. Handling is rather average."
Anonymous, IN (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is so much fun to drive! It is zippy and it handles so well. I am so happy with this car!"
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handling is good with the all wheel drive. It has been great in rain and snow. Acceleration can be a little hesitant when starting from complete stop or going up steep hill but it is a small motor and that decision was made for gas mileage. Once car going and on the freeway acceleration is fine. Cruise is exceptionally consistent"
Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Rides and drives like a luxury car."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"Stable, quick and good safety features that assist driving."
Jack G., LA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Clumsy compared to a car."
Anonymous, MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Drive ability"
Anonymous, MN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Excellent handling, all wheel drive performance is otustanding"
Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Outback)"handling"
Anonymous, NH (2018 Subaru Outback)"economical, and smooth."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"This does not feel like a big car, for only a four cylinder engine it has decent pickup. It handles well, holds the road and doesn't bound around corners."
Anonymous, VT (2018 Subaru Outback)"The 6 cylinder makes it easier to drive onto the freeways and interstate highways."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Handles very well, a little sluggish on freeway on-ramps, but not as bad as the Forester."
Anonymous, MT (2018 Subaru Outback)"Improved eye sight function and back up camera. Great passing car indicators, much more obvious. Android phone availability."
Anonymous, CT (2018 Subaru Outback)"expected better power from the 6 cyl, but it does not have much more than my 2016 4 cyl outback"
Rick M., OR (2018 Subaru Outback)"Very comfortable to drive, great driving position."
Anonymous, ME (2018 Subaru Outback)"Again, really fun to drive given 4 cyl. The tech keeps getting better and better. I do think the automatic safety features - braking, lane departure, collision prevention - are more dangerous for me because I’m not used to it - like struggling with someone else to control the vehicle."
Anonymous, MN (2018 Subaru Outback)"would like a little more power"
Anonymous, AZ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration isn't as bad as I was led to believe with the 4 cylinder engine. I'm glad I got that one because of the good mileage I'm getting. Handling is pretty good for a car with as much clearance as this car has."
Anonymous, LA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Compared to our previous car, a Mercedes Sedan, the Outback is very good, but the handling and responsiveness is not up to the standard of the Mercedes. We made a decision to get the Outback because of where we drive (often on lots of unpaved forest roads ) and because the Mercedes had over 235,000 miles and likely would need expensive transmission repairs in the not so far future."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Subaru Outback)"lots of power. i really like the CVT especially for its handling high mountain grades"
John D., BC (2018 Subaru Outback)"Like the smooth acceleration"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"It is very comfortable and good driving."
Joel H., IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"I had a V8 4Runner prior to this outback 2.5 4 cylinder. So it took a while to get use to the extra shift / slower exceleration coming away from stop sign. But the overall power once going is good . Highway power is fine. The plus is great gas mileage 25 city 30+ highway"
Raymond D., MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration and handling are excellent. The more we drive the car the more we like it."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"Solid feel of the road. But, most impressed with safety features that keep you constantly alert to other cars and other obstacles. The auto braking, lane control and rear cross traffic warnings are outstanding."
Gregory G., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)"The vehicle handling was very nice. Big motor, however, CVT transmission was rather a big disappointment"
Anonymous, MN (2018 Subaru Outback)"I opted for a 6 cylinder engine and it provides excellent acceleration as compared to the most popular 4 which I feel makes the car feel under powered on expressways. The excellent cornering and responsive steering on the Outback is similar to a midsize sedan. The seats are supportive but very hard, almost like a park bench."
Anonymous, IL (2018 Subaru Outback)"Steers and handles very well. Couldn't be better."
Anonymous, ON (2018 Subaru Outback)"CR indicated this vehicle seemed underpowered. I have not found that to be the case at all. My previous vehicle was a hybrid so the acceleration was really fast due to the torque of the electric motor. This is not far behind that experience."
Sid S., VA (2018 Subaru Outback)"Wow, I thought my Charger held the road but the Outback handles even better. When you give it gas it doesn't hesitate while it finds the right gear, it just goes."
Anonymous, TN (2018 Subaru Outback)"Car handles tight, accelerates quickly and smoothly."
Sidney J., OH (2018 Subaru Outback)"the 3.6 very responsive& the car handles like a dream"
Richard C., ME (2018 Subaru Outback)"This is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. The Eyesight system is amazing."
Douglas C., TX (2018 Subaru Outback)"This car is very quiet and smooth driving compared to previous models. It absorbs bumpy roads with ease. Real pleasure to drive."
Richard H., NH (2018 Subaru Outback)"the 2018 Subaru limited Outback has excellent acceleration from a standstill and also during passing situations while driving. this is the fourth Outback we've owned and only the second (2016) with improved handling. Not like the "granny" type handling of the 1996 and 2003 models."
Franklin F., NY (2018 Subaru Outback)"The vehicle rides very well. Handling is very responsive"
Lawrence B., AZ (2018 Subaru Outback)"Acceleration is adequate for normal driving. Not a fast car though. 6-cylinder model is much quicker I am sure but 6 mpg lower on EPA ratings. I wanted the better mpg. Ride is comfortable, handling is not as crisp as my VW Passat, but the ride is much better."
Tim B., MD (2018 Subaru Outback)"The outback ecelerates adequately and handling is excellent"
Larry R., MO (2018 Subaru Outback)"I had a 4 cylinder 2015 Subaru and got the 6 cylinder 2018. I don't think the 6 gives me that added performance I thought it would so probably stick with 4 cylinder in future."
Anonymous, KY (2018 Subaru Outback)"The Adaptive Cruise Control is outstanding for driving freeways and longer trips. Basically all I have to do is steer."
Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Outback)
"The Subaru is very responsive -- it handles very well -- accelerates easily and stops quickly. It's just plain old good engineering."
Grace B., FL (2018 Subaru Outback)
