Tesla Model Y Change Vehicle

The Model Y is essentially an SUV version of the Model 3, sharing key underpinnings, equipment, and features. We found it quick, agile, and roomy, but it’s plagued with the same distracting controls and nearly as stiff of a ride as the Model 3. Pressing on the Model Y’s accelerator pedal gives immediate and smooth forward thrust.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2020 Tesla Model Y owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

What Owners Say

Doors or sliding doors

"Rear tail gate will hang when opening or closing. Trailer hitch had no power to connector initially."

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"I want to tell you about the alignment of all the doors, frunk and trunk/tailgate. In a nutshell, all of the above came delivered needing adjustment which is disappointing to say the least. For a vehicle costing as much as it does, one would expect a product with perfectly consistent gaps/spacing around every door and perfectly aligned with the body of the car. Instead, I had to have a Tesla technicican come to the house and literally bang them somewhat into place. In the process, paint was chipped off of the hinges and mounting hardware. After the first round of adjustment, there remains more adjustment necessary. Definitly not the attention to detail normal to Japanese or European auto manufacturers. It is still an awesome piece of technology but disappointing in area of executing the build."

"ALL door panels not lined up correctly"

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

Tailgate, hatch or trunk

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"Hatch misaligned with other body parts"

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"Panel gaps were very mismatched, thus causing problems with the alignment of the rear hatch and Frunk. The closing of these items was difficult because the latches were not aligned with the rear hatch or Frunk."

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"The tailgate was not aligned properly, but was corrected under warranty"

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"Front trunk fitment was not correct. Part of the front trunk lip sat above the front bumper, part below. Also gap between front trunk and fenders was not even."

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"Drivers side door was slightly different shade of white than the rest of the car. So subtle I didn't want it repainted"

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"Both front doors are color mismatched from the rest of the vehicle. The rear bumper panel has a distinct yellow tint to it compared to the white paint if the rest of the vehicle."

Anonymous, (2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range Electric)

"New vehicle came with factory paint defects. Dust, debris and human hair stuck is the paint. Found the day I received the car. Headliner was improperly installed and the tailgate hatch will not auto lock. Also muss aligned."
