The third-generation Avalon competes with large domestic sedans and is an alternative to some luxury sedans. The comfortable interior has a reclining rear seat and interior quality rivalling its Lexus cousins. Controls are straightforward without complicated interfaces. The soft suspension system absorbs bumps well, but body lean is evident in turns and the car lacks agility. Stability control is standard.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"On long trips the drivers seat is not as comfortable as my Highlander."

Della K., TN (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Great ride."

Anonymous, IL (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"It is just like the commercials Toyota used to have showing the driving experience to be flying down the highway. It rides better than any luxury Ford or Cadillac I ever owned. It of course will not corner like a sports car, but, that is fine with me. I can go hours longer with this comfortable ride."

Anonymous, KY (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Thigh support is not optimal for long-legged drivers."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"We have been very satisfied with the Toyota over the last eight years. We like the looks, the ride and have never had any major problems with it, just the normal, tires, brakes and battery. Due to the age of the vehicle we decided to get a second one."

"Heated and cooled seats. Relatively quiet ride."

Anonymous, OR (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"For it's age; handles well"

Anonymous, OH (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"the seats are beautiful leather and very comfortable however, the care is too low to the ground and does not have enough head room to get in the front seats. It also needs the front seats to go back further"

Anonymous, PA (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"I feel very secure driving this car. I like the way it holds the road.the acceleration is very good. I have owned this car for ten years and I love it best of any car i have owned I am 83. and don't want to part with it"

Carol R., MA (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"This large car is essentially a Lexus LS450 with a Toyota badge. It is really quiet in all driving situations. Its sound blocking windows keep out the noise of other cars passing by. The ride is wonderfully comfortable, and the 12-way adjustable front seats that are heated and cooled provide luxury comfort."

"Seriously comfortable! Both front and rear seating is exceptionally comfortable and spacious."

Cheryl N., SC (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Other cars' seats cause me back pain on long rides. These seats fit and do not cause pain. Other cars' head rests hit me wrong and force my head to face downward but have no adjustment to avoid the position. This car does not have the forward tipping head rests."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Seats are very comfortable, great ajustability. They just feel good. The ride is most comfortable. The car is quiet. Very pleasant to drive. The wife loves it."

BUTCH K., NC (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Ride in the touring model is somewhat stiff compared to 2002 Avalon but handling is better"

LEO D., IL (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"The interior has been a disappointment. The dash board and the rear section around the window are cracking. The headliner over the rear seat came loose and we had to have in re glued. The leather over the console has come out of where it should be tucked in. I believe these all a result of poor workmanship."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"i have 3 sisters and we often take trips together. The Avalon is the largest, most comfortable, and has the biggest trunk of any of the vehicles available for these excursions. It is quiet too."

Anonymous, WY (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Excellent ride and comfort. Noise level very good."

LARRY G., TN (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"We really appreciate the ability to tailor driver seat and passenger seat temperature."

Anonymous, MD (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"The seats are exceptional, the climate control has never failed - in the heat of summer 0r in the -35 degree winter. It is a quiet car for our long rides. I much prefer it on the long haul over the Corolla. However, on the down side it didn't come with heated seats and the local dealer ( I bought it elsewhere) would not consider or suggest how I could upgrade the seats. I found an on-line source of heat skins and had them installed - and for this I get thanks from my wife on every cold day."

"Excessive noise and stiff suspension"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"Early this year, the main controller for the heat/cooling air failed to direct the air to all of the proper vents in the dash. This controller cost $600 plus 8 hrs. labor to replace the controller at $100/HR. You see, the entire dash has to be removed from the vehicle in order to get to the controller for replacement. My vehicle had approximately 61K miles at the time of repair. I do not know what this component Mean Time to Failure (MTBF) Toyota has experienced for this item but to locate a $60"

"Very roomy, comfordable seats, quite ride"

RICHARD H., CA (2008 Toyota Avalon)

"The car is pretty sound proof. If I have the radio on, I may not hear another car horn or ambulance siren. The seats have very good lumbar support although they (the seats) are too big for my frame (5'). The ride was exceptional for the first 60000 miles. Now it's more like a Camry's ride."

"The 2008 Avalon Limited is essentially a high-end Lexus 400 series car, but with a Toyota badge. It seems to have been modeled after a classic Cadillac, with many automated controls, and an easy ride. I would say that the steering, which is not very accurate, took me a long time to get used to compared with my previous Toyota Camry XLS, that had very accurate steering. However I eventually got used to the handling and just love driving it almost every day."
