Wayne B., SC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"When you are idling, like at a light, the engine seems to drop, and the car jolts a little. When you accelerate again, there is a 1-2 second delay as the engine seems to rise again. Very strange!"

Anonymous, NC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Very quiet, smooth ride and great responsive handling in all types of weather"

Edward E., NY (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"We cannot merge into traffic easily as the accelerator must be near the floor for proper entry. Dealer indicates transmission dictates this procedure."

Anonymous, AR (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Slow down when car ahead exits"

Anonymous, MD (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Really nice tight handling, good acceleration and easy to tell when you’re in power mode vs a more eco-friendly mode. Not a bouncy ride at all, good suspension for an SUV."

"The Toyota Highlander drives with ease and the beeping when you cross the white line on the right is a great plus."

Anonymous, OR (2018 Toyota Highlander)

Laura Z., IL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"It is a pleasure to drive. Quiet smooth ride with great power and acceleration for a 6 cylinder. Safety system is new to me and I find it a valuable tool for driving in high traffic New Jersey."

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I dislike the engine start/stop feature. It defaults to on each time the car is started. It turns off the engine even for very brief stops at stop signs. Annoying."

Michael F., NH (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Fun to drive, responds well, and is fast!"

Anonymous, OK (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Highlander is very quiet. Engine is also very quiet (you hardly detect it is running). Acceleration is good and ride is smooth and comfortable (better than my 2012 Avalon). Fuel economy at 70 MPH on Interstate trips is consistantly above 27 MPG. Have had as high as 32 MPG over a 400 mile trip."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"It is more sluggish and does not accelerate as well as my previous car (Avalon) I miss the quiet, smooth ride and the power I’m used to."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"At every small or large demand for more power the 2018 hesitates and shifts gears. The 2002 Highlander is super smooth accelerating. The 2018 engine hesitates at every stop sign while it restarts. Scary when making left turns in heavy traffic."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"it is quiet and rides well. build quality is good"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The Highlander handles well and since it's a V6 it accelerates well when merging onto a freeway, when passing a vehicle or going up hill."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The new cruise control so much different than the old. Even at the close in setting it slows too soon when you are approaching traffic from behind like cruising on the interstates. Have noticed a couple times on my recent 2000 mile trip that it can falsely sense traffic in the next lane and slow down for trucks going around some corners for example. I do like how it automatically slows when traffic slows & adjust as traffic speed changes. However I do not like the harsh acceleration if you pull out into the left land at say 8 MPH under cruise setting the car down shift & accelerates hard to get back up to speed."

Dennis B., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Great acceleration and handing"

Terry C., NC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Accelerates good has a snow button that works in the snow to get the car going used the locking diffential once to get unstuck"

Robert E., MD (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Transmission shifts too often in traffic and does not shift smoothly - has too many gears (8). Acceleration has "hesitation"."

Kl D., LA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"stop start system defaults on when car is started. Has to be turned off each start if you dont want. Need to be able to disable it if you want permanent"

Bradley C., WI (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The handling is very sure and responsive. Gear change to high is premature."

Anonymous, OR (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"great acceleration, very peppy, I have one dislike if you have to swerve away from another car on the freeway, the car feels top heavy and sloppy, it took me like 3 or 4 more corrections to recover, I thought i was going to lose control. I recovered but had to change my undershorts after."

Jerry W., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"This is a bigger SUV than we have previously owned, but I have found the acceleration and handling to be very satisfying so far."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I felt like the highlander handles very much like the Avalon which had previously owned 4 of those."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Recent road trip from Orange County, CA to Denver and return resulted in an average 29.2 mpg. Around our home it is about 18. Extremely comfortable ride and has plenty of acceleration."

Everett I., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Acceleration from stop is problematic as it hesitates before it takes off."

Anonymous, GA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Acceleration is adequate but sometimes abrupt when using cruise. Handling is good. Lane-keeping doesn't keep the car centered in the lane, only moving the car back into the lane if you drift to the side or center."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Acceleration not as smooth as my 2012 Highlander I just traded in."

Anonymous, GA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"acceleration and handling is just so great and Quiet"

Robert R., NJ (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The steering is very responsive. With the hybrid system the acceleration both from a stop and when passing is excellent."

Viriginia S., WI (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I drive in a lot of work week traffic and I need to be able to quickly change lanes and accelerate on a moments notice. This car has great pick up speed. Not sluggish in the least. And I am so in love with the AWD feature on my car! Will NEVER go back to front or rear wheel drive ever. ONLY AWD!! Feel so confident even in wet conditions."

Ann Z., AL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Surprisingly powerful and nice handling for this size vehicle."

Anonymous, OR (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The highlander gets bigger with each model and thus is harder to handle — clunkier. Go back to the size of the 2013 model"

Anonymous, CO (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"It has ample power to go where ever you want too. The safety system helps make it feel safe in all diving conditions. It handles cornors and difficult terrain without any difficulty."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The car is easy to drive and handles well for the size. The eight speed transmission tends to shift too quickly into a higher gear when accelerating."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

Ron-Sandy P., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Excellent acceleration and great handling all around."

Marian H., PA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Accelaration is good but transmission have some hesitation on start. Handling is fair don't ask a beef to skate with elegance"

Anonymous, QC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Good seating position. Good safety systems. Acceleration not quite as "snappy" as I'd like."

Gary A., TX (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"25% of the time when accelerating up hills over 60 mph on a highway, the engine shakes and shutters. Once the accelerator pedal is released, the vehicle is calm. At the 10,000 mile oil change with the dealer, no shaking was found. Of course, it only happens 25% of the time appoximately."

Joseph H., MD (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"This suv is super quiet and you are isolated from the bumps and pits of the road. The suv handles like a much smaller suv and it has plenty of power to get on the highway."

Paul G., NJ (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Rather weak acceleration; must enable "power" mode every time the car is started."

Anonymous, SC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Smooth acceleration and handling."

Ronald G., WA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The acceleration is more than sufficient and the handling is responsive."

John A., CT (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"the acceleration, and handling are exceptionally good when towing a trailer."

Sue J., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"HANDLES LIKE AN AUTOMOBILE. SMOOTH ACCELERATION. QUIET RIDE,"

Robert B., OH (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"For A V6 engine I don't think it moves out like it should when eccelerating on the gas"

Holley W., VT (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Hybrid drives very well...handling is not nimble but well controlled. Acceleration is good with eco-mode off, but adequate under almost all other scenarios. It gets exceptional mileage for a car of its size and weight"

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"We hate the engine shut off feature when you stop for lights. It can be turned off, but must be turned each time you start the highlander. It should be turn it on if you want the feature. We see no noticeable mileage difference using it. If I wanted a hybrid I would have purchased one."

Robert B., IL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Handles great plus excellent storage"

Ed K., FL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Not really handling but more of a parking brake issue. When the vehicle is parked at a forward downhill angle and the parking brake is used the vehicle will still lurch forward a bit. When the parking brake is release, there is a loud clunk sound from underneath the vehicle. I took the Highlander in at 700 miles for this issue and was told that it will go away in time since it was still new. After researching on the internet, I have discovered other instances of this issue not only with the Highlander but other Toyota vehicles. Not a big issue but hopefully not a bigger issue later."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Very fuel efficient when driving with a light foot, while power is available when needed. Vehicle feels safe."

Jacques L., QC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I like the vehicle except that I would prefer that it have more power plus I think Toyota could have done better with the 8 speed transmission. It seems to go into lower gears than it should when calling for power and there are times that the transmission seems bump back and forth in the same gear."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"good comfortable ride with minimal outside noise"

Douglass B., FL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"It helps me merge into traffic quicker on freeway"

Anonymous, TX (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Handles well and comfor table to drive"

Anonymous, WA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The engine provides good acceleration. Reasonable gas mileage. I have no issues with the engine. One of the reasons I purchased a Highlander instead of a Pilot is the Pilot's 9 speed transmission. I was in the market for the upper trim level. It tended to hunt for gears at low speed. I don't sense that in the Highlander. I'm still getting used to a transmission that can shift 8 times, but I don't detect it hunting for gears like the Pilot."

Jerry B., TX (2018 Toyota Highlander)

Some wind noise in the window area, but not too much that it would be annoying. The ride is great! I can drive for quite a while without getting tired or stiff."

"While parked on a hot day, with the a/c on, I noticed how hot it was inside the car at face level. I then felt the interior of the car where the sunroof is, and it was 120 degrees. On my old Acura MDX, the interior roof of the car was solid. On this Toyota, it's just a piece of heavy cloth, which has no insulating properties, so it gets very hot with the sun beating down on GLASS sunroofs. Very cheap. Uncomfortable. Disappointing that a good car has this cheap, ineffective design error."

"Comfortable seating all around, I'm a taller person and usually passenger and rear seats headroom is to small (hit my head on roof). Highlander has enough headroom that this doesn't happen. Road house is kept to a minimum and sound system seems to have noise cancelling. Everything is within easy reach when driving so you don't have to take your eyes off the road when driving. I indicated in the questions that I don't call when driving but if one of my kids call i do answer and having the controls on the steering wheel is the only reason I do so (again don't have to take eyes off road or concentration). Vehicle has plenty of room for passengers and luggage, I had the roof installed so I can also put a storage device up there if required which is nice. Love the heated and cooling front seats, very nice to have on those days when you hit the extremes. Plenty of plug-ins for people to charge their electronic devices. For a family SUV off has towing capability (my use for this is bike rack in the back) very convenient."

Ben W., OH (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Great towing capacity and new safety features very well done"

Mark G., NY (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Bought my Toyota Highlander in February at a below invoice price and special 0.9% financing. On top of that Toyota sent me another $500 because they said the window sticker was 1 mpg off. I love it!"

T B., IL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"It is all based on the dealer. First contacted the dealer(2) by internet to find best true value price and read about the car in CR."

John L., NC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"A very reliable and comfortable vehicle, with the latest safety features"

R M., NB (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Loaded and lease price was better than planned"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I would try to go through CR in advance to pick the exact options I want and try to negotiate the best price THEN go to the dealership to pick it up instead of going to the dealership and just getting railroaded by salesmen into the highest priced vehicle they can sell me without the options I want and with a bunch of options I don't want and without any negotiating possible."

William D., CO (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The safety features that came standard on the car are very impressive"

Anonymous, MA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"i am very satisfied with the bang that I got for my busk with this vehicle. My last car lasted 19 years and I expect that I will be using this vehicle for many, many years."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"A lot of car for the money, Acceleration Good, Interior Impressive, Handle very well. Overall I think it is a lot of car for the money."

Edward P., NJ (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"This is a super vehicle for the money. Quiet, adequate power, a fully array of safety and sensor systems which are not optional, comfortable seat, excellent display and back up camera."

Michael H., AZ (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I’m sure it’s a good value, but it wound up being much more expensive than I had at first calculated."

Elizabeth K., PA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"For the size of vehicle, operations and features, we think it is the best value on the market."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I got the highest level...Ltd Platinum, because I wanted the panoramic camera. I will never use the other stuff bundled with that package (pano roof, heated stuff-I'm in Socal.) It doesn't have the digital speedo or individual tire pressure monitor...very disappointed considering what I paid for Ltd Plat."

Joe W., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Salesman showed us the XLE best value for the dollar, didn't try to up sell us"

Anonymous, IA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"On the Limited there are the items included that on others are an option......good selling point to me."

Anonymous, PE (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"For the money, $35K, it is a quality SUV with a good electronics package which is very complete and useful. (Nav, backup camera, emergency assist breaking, adaptive cruise control, other apps)"

Frank C., TN (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Excellent reliability with tons of options for a very reasonable price. No need to pay extra for the luxury brands."

Anonymous, MO (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"All things considered this vehicle represents good value. Engine is smooth and responsive, ride is good, fuel economy is exceptional, handling is not sporty but is secure. There are many thoughtful features with the dash shelf being one of the best. Two complaints: There is a bit too much wind noise and no Apple car play."

Robert W., FL (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Dealer was willing give a good deal on trade and new purchase"

Ron-Sandy P., CA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"This car was right in my price range and was exactly what I wanted."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Like most other vehicles, purchaser determines the package they wish to buy. We bought the limited package being somewhat in the middle range thinking this was all the package we needed. We got most of the bells and whistles but not front end sensors. Checking further we should have gotten the supreme package for about $2000 more. Now we have most of the electronics, which will seldom be used, but no front sensors. Clever marketing on their part."

"A lot better car for the value than we thought it would be"

Janice W., TN (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Excellent gas mileage for a car of its size."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The Highlander is cheaper than comparable automobiles. It provides equal or superior amenities, and its trade in value is impressive."

Jack W., KY (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Compared to other mid-sized hybrid SUVs, including Lexus, Acura, Tesla and Volvo, the Highland was a significantly better value overall when considering the complete package of economy, safety, comfort, performance, reliability and included features."

Roy E., TX (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Got the base model because I need to tow. Also took it on a 2000 mile trip and it exceeded my expectations as to comfort and mpg economy. Got it for a great price and glad I didn't pay the $3000 - $6000 for the "extras". Got exactly what I needed and wanted."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"A hybrid is the way to go now. This car uses the deceleration of the wheels to charge the battery. They have thought of everything."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"safety features are excellent for the price"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Front parking assist sensors missing. Camera screen impossible to see in certain common light conditions. Toyota has refused to modify system. Very poor value for top end model of this car."

Ben G., WA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I like having the possibility of seating 7 people in comfort, however find room to carry additional luggage or other items is less than I prefer. Even with 3rd row folded down storage space is limited."

William H., WI (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I am finding a number of smaller factors that for me add-up to a vehicle below my expectations. The sound system quality is poor, especially with regard to bass response and adjustments. I find operator controls not as well placed and identified (or as intuitive) as in other vehicles I have owned. Interior lighting isn't as good as I've seen in other vehicles I've owned. Materials used in the vehicle seem to be a bit below par (for example some of the leather fabric on the seats has torn after just four months, which Toyota won't stand behind by the way). The auto headlight system doesn't always work when it should, so I keep it turned off. Lane keeping works okay most of the time but is easily confused when road markings aren't in good shape or weather conditions aren't good. The vehicle's glass lets in a LOT of heat on sunny days, making comfortable temperature settings sometimes hard to find. One of the major reasons I bought the vehicle however was for the hybrid system, which overall does seem to work well. City gas mileage runs generally as advertised. Highway mileage is extremely sensitive to speed and wind/weather conditions. The vehicle will not reach advertised mileage at many of today's increased highway speed limits. I find some of the controls for the hybrid system to be difficult to use and understand. I do find the vehicle ride to be comfortable and it handles well."

Kim K., MI (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"Dealer lied and mislead. Slime ball dealer!"

Anonymous, AB (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"We negotiated a good price (we think). We are very happy.with the safety features and the mileage we are getting."

Viriginia S., WI (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"I traded in my 2016 Volvo XC-90 for the Highlander. The Highlander has many of the same features that the Volvo had, the quality of the interior materials is not as luxurious as the Volvo but the Highlander is smoother, quieter. It gets much better gas mileage and on regular fuel. I love the back window that flips up without having to open the hatch. I also like the microphone that you can turn on so that the rear passengers can hear the front seat passengers through the car speakers. My only complaint is I recently travelled to Canada which uses the Metric system and I could not see how fast I was going because the metric speed numbers are very small and dark blue. There is a setting to change the odometer to metric not to make the numbers on the speedometer brighter to see, I even stopped at a Toyota dealership while there and they said there is no way to make it easier to see. The Highlander is an excellent road trip car, very smooth, roomy, comfortable, quiet, and great gas mileage. It also has a great reliability history and resale value."

Peter S., WA (2018 Toyota Highlander)

"The Toyota Highlander is easy to drive, park, use the dash controls and I especially like the side mirrors and their functions. Safety is a plus."
