The Sequoia is a rational but uninspired vehicle. It's roomy and quiet, the powertrain is refined and it has good brakes. The power-retracting rear window is a nice touch, too. But handling is ungainly and the ride quality is not very comfortable. Side- and curtain-airbags were made standard beginning with the 2007 model year.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Good acceleration however it is "difficult" to stop as it takes lots of braking pressure."

Anonymous, VA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"the vehicle is big and holds our grandchildren very well and in all weather condition it handles well both in the mountains and on the straight aways and because of it power to accerate i don't hafve to worry about my wife or my grand children while they are on the road"

WILLIAM O., NV (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"In general, the vehicle drives well, but when going up small hills, the cruise control will surge suddenly. I see lots of complaints on-line about this same issue on the Tundra and I would guess the Sequoia has the same cruise control system. I have not discussed this with the dealer, but the people on-line who report it says the dealer claims this is normal operation."

BEVERLY B., OK (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"This is a very powerful car that can make safe passing situations easy. At the same time it still gets better gas mileage, especially on long-haul driving, than I ever expected. This year model has a 4.7 liter V-8 which is as "stingy" on gas as any big car can be."

MICHAEL Q., CO (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"slow, poor handling, rides like shit, do i need to be any more descriptive"

Anonymous, FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"The 2006 Sequoia has decent pickup. The reason why we purchased it was for the towing capabilities. We tow an approximately 3500lb travel trailer, which it has not problems towing, however it does feel surprisingly sluggish while towing uphill. It is rated to tow up to 6500lbs. Also, it averaged about 8mpg while towing, which was a big disappointment,."

Daniel F., CA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"It has great power and excellent road handling in all conditions of driving I might experience. Snow covered and back country roads are no problem. It is the vehicle we use for all long distance trips and for town shopping if we need good cargo space."

Anonymous, CO (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"quite ride good handling"

Raymond L., FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Accelerates like a V8 should, although occasionally there's a delay, like the auto transmission is a little wonky now. Responsive but a little clumsy to handle, mostly because of the size."

Melissa K., MD (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"The Sequoia is a fun car to drive. Handling is extremely excellent. The V8 responds immediately. Lots of get up and go."

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The entertainment system is excellent, the front and rear climate control is excellent as is the ride and the performance on the road. Very quiet cabin, has many nice and useful standard features. I love the way it drives and handles on the open road. I particularly love the heated seats on a cold morning. If I have any complaint it would be the LCD displays for the sound system and the climate control. They ate difficult for me to read, particularly in the daylight. They are back-lit at night a"

Anonymous, VA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"This vehicle has been a wonderful vehicle for us over the last ten years. But it is not a quiet ride. Very roomy and reliable. We've traveled all over the country in this vehicle. I am going to buy another one soon."

JACQUELINE O., SD (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"This is our long distance travel vehicle and we can go over 4WD roads with confidence if they are not in the "extreme" category. It gets good highway mileage and is steady on the road."

MICHAEL Q., CO (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Excellent visibility front, sides and aft. Extremely roomy for driver & 4 passengers, 6 passengers if using the 3rd row. Great cargo capacity."

Anonymous, MA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Good ride on the highway. Noise levels are moderate. Seats are easy to adjust and very comfortable on the back."

Joel B., FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"rides like a total POS, seats suck cock as in, they are very uncomfortable."

Anonymous, FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"very comfortable for driver and all passengers"

Raymond L., FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"As the original owner of this vehicle I am very satisfied with the ride and noise level. Other people a surprised to know that the vehicle is 12 years old and no rattles"

K B., AL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"HIGH QUALITY - THIS IS BASICALLY A LAND CRUISER !"

Anonymous, QC (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"road and engine noise inside vehicle is very loud"

Anonymous, TX (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Seats are comfortable except head rest. Needs to be redesigned to reach head. Noise is fine. Ride is extremely comfortable."

Anonymous, SC (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Very comfortable and quit on long road trips"

Anonymous, CA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Sequoia is going on 11 years old now and never a problem. Plenty of room for hauling our "stuff" and with a kayak on top. Love it!"

LINDA M., FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Had Sequoia for 10 years. Extremely reliable. Low maintenance costs"

Anonymous, NH (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"Amazing Value when buying used. However I pride myself in getting good deals from private sellers. Bought the car with 79k on it for 12.5k when it sells for 45k brand new."

GARVIN C., CA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"The Toyota has given a decade of service with very few minor repairs. It looks good and is durable. My wife loves the looks, too. We can pile 6 people in in comfort."

RICHARD E., CA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"It has been a fantastic vehicle for us. Carries 8 comfortably and plenty of cargo space."

Joel B., FL (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"We bought the Sequoia for the safety factor, because we had two infants. It's a great ride, and roomy, and we feel very safe in it. We were hit from behind by a sedan, and the sedan's front end was badly damaged, but the Sequoia barely had a scratch. That said, the cost of safety was high given the price of the car and gas in a V8, plus the repairs are costly when they happen. It's been a very reliable vehicle though."

Melissa K., MD (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"the body style is 10 years old and it still looks great"

GARVIN C., CA (2006 Toyota Sequoia)

"The rims were ugly. I should have gotten better ones."
