What Owners Say

"It is totally as good as you could hope for in every respect."

Robert C., CO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"poor acceleration response, choppy, uneven, erratic with age"

Joseph D., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Acceleration is good, turn radius is awesome."

Rick P., VA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I have no trouble merging on the highway nor passing other vehicles"

Josef G., MO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"It handles well and accelerates adequately in a freeway situation."

Anonymous, WI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The van drives smoothly, accelerates quite adequately, and handles well."

Anonymous, NM (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"With high mileage this van drives very well. I feel secure in the winter with snow and ice."

Karen H., MN (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Totally dependable. Has not required any major work in 14 years."

Anonymous, AL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"It has fantastic acceleration when entering a highway since most of them are now 70 MPH. Additionally, this van is has a fairly high ground clearance which handles beautifully in our Wisconsin winter driving conditions. I have never gotten stuck in snow with this vehicle over the last 14 years!"

Teresa F., WI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"This car has the perfect reaction for me. It's quick to accelerate when needed. It cruises at 80 with hardly a notice of temp rise in water. I love to drive this car and am about to go on a seven to eight thousand mile road trip which I look forward to as the seating is quite comfortable."

Paul W., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Very quiet for a mini-van. Good smooth acceleration and handling. Tight turning radius. Good clearance. Good visibility."

Robert M., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Holding up well"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The 6-cyl. engine accelerates very well from stop or when moving, with no hesitation. The van handles well, though has slightly poor traction on wet payments regardless of the tire brand used (I've had several over the 12 years I've owned it). For a 14-year old vehicle, it has not lost any acceleration or handling characteristics from when I bought at when it was 2-years old."

Mark G., OH (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"As it ages, it seems to have lost quick acceleration. The handling is OK. I wouldn't buy another all wheel drive mini-van. It came with run-flat tires that wear out too fast and as they wear, the loudness from those tires is unbearable. Haven't used run-flats after the first set wore out."

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Poor acceleration, particularly on inclines; transmission constantly shifting gears up and down"

Anonymous, TN (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"On the laser cruise control, when I pull into an empty lane after following a slow car, the Sienna downshifts and jerks back up to speed overshooting the set speed by a few mph and then it slows drastically and the bounces up and down in speed until it finally gets back to where it is set. I wish cruise controls could have a sluggish setting instead of a jerky setting. I don't care if it takes 10 seconds to resume a set speed after slowing down when following another car, that would be a lot better than jerking up and down in speed."

William S., UT (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Acceleration is very good. Transmission gearing seems well-designed. Steering gives confidence."

L K., NC (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"smooth ride and all time 4 wheel drive."

James S., MO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Good ride and tight turning radius. After 14 1/2 years still handles like the day I bought it."

James B., AL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I test drove the Honda Odyssey, Nissan Quest, Mazda MPv, and Plymouth minivans. The Sienna cornered and could make u-turns in much less space. The ride was more comfortable than the others. Acceleration was very good. The braking on the Sienna was better than the ones I tested and so far the brake system has outlasted the others. My other family members have the Honda Odyssey that are same age as my Sienna and they have had more issues with the electrical and brake system than my Sienna. Road noise was minimal when new and after 14 years, it is still quiet."

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"You don't realize just how pleasant a ride my Sienna gives until you are in someone else's car that is not up to this standard. My car handles very very well, drives smooth and quiet."

Donna W., MO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"v6 engine gives very good performance"

JOHN F., OR (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Currently have over 200,000 miles and no issues with engine or transmission. Regular maintenance performed"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The van (for its age) still accelerates very well! From a stop you can't just floor it! I would recommend the "AWD" (and not worry about the 1mpg you lose). Even in warmer climates!"

Anonymous, NJ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The "drive by wire accelerator" is bad. Instead of a cable or linkage from the pedal to the throttle there is a sensor that sends the position of the accelerator pedal to the engine computer and then the engine does whatever it wants to ie a considerable lag in response for acceleration. Then a few seconds later the throttle opens some more and finally gets to wide open. This has never been corrected by the Toyota dealer. The dealer is otherwise the best dealer I have ever dealt with in over 60"

D H., FL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Braking is wonderful. Handling very good. Excellent power when needed to get out of tight situations."

W R., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Fairly quiet ride, comfortable seats. Handled fine."

Anonymous, MA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Drives like a car, not a truck. Great turning radius makes parking and u turns a breeze."

DAVID L., FL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Would like better acceleration, despite the V6 engine, but overall the car has been terrific with no reliability issues!"

Anonymous, DE (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Handles well on long drives and wet roads. Fast pick up when I have to enter on an entrance ramp. Easy to drive, I like sitting up a little higher."

Anonymous, FL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"accelerator lags then spurts"

Anonymous, NC (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Drives very smoothly, with good acceleration. It is very quite for a mini-van."

ROBERT M., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"easy handing"

Anonymous, ON (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Driving - not uncommon to get a "hiccup" and/or a lag when trying to accelerate - can not replicate on demand, so cannot get it addressed. Fantastic turning radius!!!"

Anonymous, WA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Handling, efficiency, style, works well in most environments including desert or wet, comfort, Truly the best we have owned or have knowledge of. Our "Miss Lily" is loved and respected by all our extended family."

JAMES C., AZ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Under powered for the weight. Acceleration is average."

Anonymous, AZ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Handles like a top-notch sedan. Even tight cornering engenders confidence. Acceleration is more than adequate. Transmission's gear ratios seem well designed. Steering and braking are exceptional."

L K., NC (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Small turning radius. Sonar controlled cruise control great accelaration"

JESSE R., TN (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"visibility during backing is not good"

JIM M., PA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"It handles extremely well and turns on a dime, Good acceleration and good MPG. This is the best vehicle I have ever owned bar none."

ROBERT H., MD (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Superb turning radius"

DAVID R., OR (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"SMOOTH RESPONSIVE ENGINE AND GOOD HANDLING"

JEFF T., GA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Good acceleration for a 6 cyl large vehicle."

ROBERT T., CO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I prefer to drive smaller vehicles but had to have a handicap ramp conversion added to the Sienna.. More reliable and comfy than most ramp vans on the market but still it makes the ride harder because of the conversion."

Anonymous, TX (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Great vehicle, will replace it with another one at some time."

GLENN R., IN (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Tight turning for such a large vehicle, responsive steering, plenty of acceleration for things like freeway on ramps"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Throttle tip-in is defective and there is no recommended fix. Getting smooth accel. from start is nearly impossible. Can be done with left foot brake application, right foot accelerator to add power and slowly release brake, but this is cumbersome. Run flat tires changed to regular and ride and tire wear was improved but there is no room for spare."

R H., PA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"This model came with the "radar cruise control" and when it died the cost to fix it was prohibitive. The regular cruise control is still usable with a workaround."

BARRY K., MI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"It is the best highway/traveling car I have ever owned"

WILFRED H., FL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Great smooth ride"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Acceleration is better than most SUV's I have driven."

Anonymous, MI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"For a minivan, it's pretty quick entering highways and with good tires Pirelli P7s or Continental Truegrip(?) it corners well, just not sportscar material. Comfortable driving long distances at 80 mph."

Anonymous, NY (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"peppie-can accelerate quickly when needed and handles very well on turns."

Stephen P., NJ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Good acceleration. Difficult to make tight turns."

Anita U., WA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"When you floor it, it takes a second then it kicks in. Handles well"

Anonymous, TX (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Great handling and tight turn radius."

Anonymous, OH (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Accelerates like a hippo, rides like a big box on wheels. Comfy on straightaways, but squats and leans in turns. More road and wind noise than expected. Run flat tires are terrible - hard, noisy, don't last (< 30,000 miles) and very expensive to replace; forget about repairs - dealer says you can't. HATE THEM. Van needs new tires (2 run flats leak air constantly, all are tread worn after 22,000 miles, and I drive like a grandpa), and I do not plan to replace with a third set of run flats - I'll..."

Jim R., NY (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I drives like a van."

Jonathan S., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Acceleration lags often when "punching it". Transmission often shifts very roughly too. All wheel drive feature may be the culprit but it does works very well when needed in snowy/slick conditions."

Dan M., NH (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Surprisingly easy to drive. Acceleration is excellent; transmission shifts smoothly with good range choices for downhill speed control."

L K., NC (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Just a nice quiet ride with plenty of "pep"."

Anonymous, MB (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The seats are all pretty comfortable. There's plenty of room throughout on the inside of the car. I like being able to fold down and take out the seats and haul sofas or big things from Home Depot. The ride is quiet and soft, and tracks well through curves thanks to the low center of gravity (compared to a big SUV)."

Anonymous, NY (2004 Toyota Sienna)

David B., GA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"With the age of the vehicle and leather seats they and the dash board have begun to crack."

Scott G., AZ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"smooth ride and 4 wheel all drive."

James S., MO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The only negative is the noise level that comes from the windows. It's always been a bit noisy and has gradually worsened from what it was originally. That is my only complaint about this Sienna."

Janet G., LA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The ride is like sitting in my easy chair in my living room. It is so comfortable that we cannot find a vehicle to replace it. Least fatigue of any car I have owned."

Karen H., MN (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I wish my home had more seating as comfortable as the front seats of my 2004 Sienna. The van handles like a large car more than a van. It has gotten a little noisier with age but is still a very reasonably quiet ride."

Carl S., WI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"It's noisy enough at highway speeds that if I'm listening to spoken word content on the radio, I have to turn the volume up high in order to understand the words."

Ronald-Claudett E., FL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Comfortable that are relatively easy for my handicapped wife."

John V., IL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The road noise is much higher than when originally purchased but then it is 14 years old and gaskets are drying out. The radio, especially the AM, does not stay tuned to a station very well. It jumps up or down depending on signal strength. The receiver could have been much better. The CD and tape drive still work just fine though and I use all three modes depending on my mood. There are no fluid leaks what so ever."

Paul W., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"One of the most comfortable vehicles I've owned. Good support in the seats and quiet ride."

"I love my '04 Sienna, it's name is "Babe Magnet" named for my Boy Scout Troop. The comfort is still great even after the hard life it has led. We drove from Phoenix to Georgia to Washington, DC and then back to Georgia and returned home to Arizona with five people and a dog in a kennel. We were all comfortable in the van even though we spent about 85 hours in the same seats."

"Well designed, top performance, very satisfied, would buy again after 14 years."

James D., NY (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"This vehicle has a lot of road noise. Neither sliding door will close properly without someone leaning their weight on the door to keep it from popping open. The cost to fix this issue is too much for the value of the vehicle."

Anonymous, KS (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Motor for driver's seat - to move back and forward - failed. Toyota no longer carries the part and does nothing to assist the customer in finding a replacement. Had to search auto junkyards to find the part and have it installed. Took six months. Ridiculous that Toyota cannot repair its own cars."

"We have the 8-seat option (2-3-3) and find it very comfortable and quiet for car-pooling children or taking visitors on sight-seeing trips. The middle and back row seats fold down easily to create a large flat cargo space that can hold 4x8 plywood, large furniture, etc."

Anonymous, VA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

The ride is very good for a tall vehicle, i.e. not too much sway and good isolation from minor bumps. The noise level is not good, but expected, considering the large, open passenger and storage area provided with multiple doors and windows allowing road/wind noise."

"The driver side door makes a rattling sound when driving faster. Both sliding doors stopped working properly and we have to lean on them for them to shut. If we don't lean on them, they pop back open. Extremely frustrating."

"Eventhough it is ca. 13 years old it still handles are well as the day we purchased it."

Richard H., AL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The seats in the Sienna are okay but the straight down angle of the seat to the floor can be uncomfortable on long rides if you have short legs. The ride is smooth even at 13 years old. Engine noise and/or tire noise could be less but not so bad. Being older and not hearing as well is a help at this point."

"Front and Middle (captains chairs) seats are VERY comfortable, especially noticeable for longer trips."

Anonymous, WA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"good comfortable ride, up high with good visibility"

Dale B., BC (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Very comfortable seats"

Keith D., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Big, roomy, comfortable front and rear captain seats. Plenty of head, leg, shoulder and hip room. Cavernous cartage - just open the hatch, lay down the third row, and pitch stuff in. It rides like a big box on wheels and accelerates like a hippo, squats and leans in turns. But with AWD, it is surefooted in snow, slush and wet - haven't skidded once in 13 years, including through Syracuse winters and annual February trips to the Adirondacks. Fair amount is wind noise, worsened by a canoe rack on..."

"SEAT COMFORT & RIDE EXCELLENT. SOME WHAT NOISIER THAN IDEAL."

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Our Sienna has proven to be a very good value. The price was reasonable and over the 14 years we have had it, it has proven very reliable. We have had no on-the-road breakdowns in 135k miles of driving. Now the automatic doors and some other peripherals do not work so well, and we have had to maintain it, but no huge maintenance issues have emerged so far. What a fantastic car it has been! It has made me a very loyal Toyota customer. (We bought a new Toyota in the last 2 years and plan on buying more.)"

Scott G., AZ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"It was reasonably priced at the time, and it has seldom needed any repairs."

Kathleen H., TN (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"lasted long time, still handles well and good looking"

Dale B., BC (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I am 93 years of age, owned autos for over 75 years, and found this Toyota Van the best over all vehicle I have ever owned."

Harvey H., MO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Relatively maintenance free Sized for handling lots of luggage, misc. large items. 4 wheel drive gives security in snow and bad weather driving. Nice inside and outside styling that has not become dated. Run Flat tires not a good feature. Replaced and use sealant for flats which has never been needed."

Anonymous, PA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Long lasting quality"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The best vehicle value we have ever purchased. It excels in all areas & the manufacturer has stood behind this vehicle all the way. Toyota is the best manufacturer in the business."

Harold S., FL (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"We bought this vehicle new for a reasonable price and it has never disappointed. We have only done normal maintenance...never having any significant repairs due to system failures or manufacturing defects. The vehicle is now 14 years old and still in relatively good shape."

David W., OH (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"We have squeezed so many errands, vacations, college trips, you name it, out of this car. No major repairs on the engine. Just the usual wear-and-tear part replacements you expect with a 14-year old car: brakes, tires, belts, shocks, struts. The A/C needed a part replaced last year, but that was the only major repair we've needed."

Carl S., WI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Our vehicle has run for 168,000 miles with very few repairs."

Lawrence S., CT (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"low maintenance cost. reliability"

Anonymous, WA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Have the 8-seat option -- great for carpooling when kids were in school, great for taking visiting families sight-seeing. With back seats down and middle seats tipped forward I can carry 4'x8' plywood flat. Generous space for moving furniture, carryinig 8' folding tables, garden supplies, etc. It's our family "buckboard.""

Robert M., CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"174,000 miles & going strong. never any problems. A great value & great car. !!"

James G., NJ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"I paid $26000 cash (for everything incl. tax) back in 2004 for this new vehicle; they threw in a free hitch. I haven't put much money into it for repairs until recently, so I feel I got a good value. It's comfortable, spacious - good for camping, hauling stuff. Gas mileage was decent and I still average (city and hwy) about 20 mpg."

Timothy W., WI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"OMG! We love our mini-van that has been named the "Babe Magnet" by our Boy Scout troop. We have tortured this van with the number of boys that have traveled to vacations, camping trips, troop meetings, in addition to the normal trips to the store, work, church, etc. The Babe Magnet is incredibly reliable. Our maintenance on the van is limited to the parts that wear out over time. It is very well built with quality parts. We love it so much we bought a 2018 Toyota Sienna as a replacement so we can pass the Babe Magnet on to our 16 year old yet, my sons would rather ride in old van rather than the new one."

Dan C., AZ (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"The van can be used just like a truck because its on a truck frame which means it can carry a heavy load without issues. I've used it to haul lumber supplies and furniture. It's awesome. Also, not a lot of bells and whistles that tend to break like the high end models. Fantastic for use with children."

Anonymous, WI (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"Our 2004 Sienna is the basic CE model and has all the features we need. Stereo sounds great, acceleration, ride, and handling are car-like, trailer towing has felt safe and it has ample power and braking for our 10' Coleman trailer. Over the 15 years we have owned it we have only had the regular maintenance to do and it still looks and drives great. We shall keep it until it "falls apart." Best money we have ever spent on a vehicle!"

Josef G., MO (2004 Toyota Sienna)

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"When I bought the car it was great but as the miles were put on it started to give me problems (power seat motor stopped working, air conditioning leak and now the drivers door hinge has broken) besides all the recalls that I had to get fixed. I always thought Toyota vehicles held up better than this so I am a little disappointed."

Anonymous, PA (2004 Toyota Sienna)

"For clarification, I own the mid-level Sienna LE, which happens to be the most common trim level. The vehicle is much more expensive than a Honda Odyssey, but the Toyota Sienna is quieter, with a smoother ride and more comfortable seats. You would expect those things from a family vehicle. That's why I chose the Sienna over the Odyssey. The Sienna, however, is not what I would call a good value. It lacks rear disc brakes, which really surprised me, since I previously had a 1992 Oldsmobile ("
