Introduced in 2007, this generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Very smoothe”

J O., VA (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“It has always driven fine.”

KAREN B., KY (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“lots of power and ease of handling”

JERRY B., TX (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“bought it new, and it has continued to be a great truck”

Anonymous, GA (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Front end is a little "spongy" feels like it could have better turn in, in corners. (realizing it is a truck, it could be better)”

OYSTEIN P., FL (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Gas hog.”

Anonymous, CO (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“I had a small truck prior to this one and pulling my bass boat was more difficult. Now, I hardly notice that I'm pulling it since the Tundra is heavier and more powerful.”

PRESTON H., TN (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Starting from a stopped position the accelerator is very sensitive. When pressure is first applied, nothing happens. When slight additional pressure is applied the vehicle leaps forward...not like any other vehicle I have ever owned. I have taken it in twice to the dealer and have been told this is normal if the truck has no load. My response was, "So, I suppose the fix is to drive it around with a 1000 pound load all the time."”

DON T., GA (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“When first starting the engine seems to race for a few minutes. On the positive side it is wonderful to drive in every way including noise level & overall comfort. It has plenty of power.”

CLARENCE W., ID (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“I have experienced an annoying high idle when A/C compressor kicks on and also a very touchy throttle. Neither of these problems were corrected. The dealer stated it would "take a model change". Other than that it has been very good vehicle.”

Anonymous, FL (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“the accelerator is "jumpy" at very slow speeds - when crawling along it is not smooth”

STANSEL H., AR (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Awesome power and acceleration, great engine sounds.”

SETH B., MO (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“We use this truck in the mountains of Colorado and are often off road - great clearance, nice 4x4 control, good power when towing, even at altitude. Feel safe and confident driving this truck.”

Anonymous, CO (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“The cruise control causes the truck to immediately drop down a couple of gears and growl as it accelerates rapidly. They say it is normal. Truck rides rough but is quiet.”

DAN F., TX (2011 Toyota Tundra)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Just outside the warranty period, with only about 7000 miles, the air conditioning went out. Over $5000 to repair. And we live in Seattle, it isn't like we run the air conditioning all year!”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“The drivers seat foam has broken down and makes it uncomfortable on long trips.”

Anonymous, TX (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Extremely comfortable ride; even on extended (all day driving) trips. Very low noise level and very even ride.”

MARION K., NY (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“My wife is short and finds it difficult to find a comfortable seating in the passenger seat.”

Anonymous, MT (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Radio is a 1-cd unit so a hassle to swap discs.”

ROBERT N., OH (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“The truck is designed for taller individuals and is difficult to adjust for a smaller person.”

KIMBERLY W., OR (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Love the auto rear window and the lumbar support.”

Anonymous, TX (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Truck is not a quiet ride. Body integrity is tight however. Rides better with some weight in the truck. Of course this would make sense given a 4X4. Very good leg room both front and rear.”

Anonymous, CA (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Seats”

Anonymous, FL (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Right from day one the interior of the truck had a strong smell. I thought it would fade. It was never the nice new car smell. The smell has not faded. It kind of smells like acidic dill pickle chips. I wish I had picked another truck off the lot because they could not fix the smell.”

KEVIN T., BC (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“very stiff suspension”

NICHOLAS C., NH (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Ride is a little stiff”

PETER L., NH (2011 Toyota Tundra)

What Owners Say

“Outstanding”

DAVID S., FL (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“My husband continues to have no problems with his 2011 Tundra. We have had other Toyota vehicles, and do not expect to have issues in the future with it. And if there is, we have faith in Toyota.”

KAREN B., KY (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“Best truck for the best price. What more can you say.”

Anonymous, TX (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“This truck rides great. Better than many cars. It has held it value well above other trucks. On big factor is its dependablity.”

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“The Tundra smartphone and bluetooth/audio interoperability is terrible.”

Anonymous, NC (2011 Toyota Tundra)

“I had definite ideas of what I wanted in my truck. My dealer searched State-wide to find a truck with my features. She also obtained zero-percent interest for me. The vehicle has had zero problems and is a joy to drive. It is 100% dealer maintained and the costs are very inexpensive.”

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Toyota Tundra)
