Right from the first door thunk, the Volkswagen Golf exudes a quality feel. The Golf has long been a cut above other small cars, being more fun to drive and finished like a more expensive German sedan. Redesigned for 2015, this example continued those virtues and then some, making it the best Golf to date.

Driving Experience

What Owners Say

"Great pickup with turbo."

Anonymous, PA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The Golf TDI handles great, and the gas mileage is phenomenal! Speed and maneuverability on the highway are exceptional. My only problem with the car is not the car's fault. We live in the Northeast where there are thousands of potholes and because the car is so low, I'm always afraid of damaging a tire. Another reason I love the Jeep so much, I don't have to worry about our xxxxxxx roads, but the gas mileage sucks."

Jay B., RI (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Great smooth acceleration, quiet one; excellent handling and sharp negotiating of corners."

Pavel Z., ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Handling and acceleration are fabulous. The Germans make great automobiles."

Anonymous, AB (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Handling is smooth as butter"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Clutch action isd very abrupt when launching with 5 speed manual transmission."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It drives smoothly. It's always an enjoyable driving experience"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Our 2015 VW Golf tdi is fun to drive. It is zippy and responsive. No problems entering expressways and keeping up with other vehicles."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Again, electric car - acceleration is outstanding from a start, and the Golf handling is very quick and nimble. I wish CR would have included this in the Annual Auto Issue. I've driven many electric cars, and I think this is one of the best!"

Dave V., MA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The car handles very well with a tight turn radius. I love nearly everything about the car. But I will never buy another VW again because of the company's fraudulent treatment of buyers of TDI vehicles."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Fun to drive. Handles very well, quite good gas mileage especially on the highway"

William F., MO (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Good: Roadhandling, acceleration, smoothness of automatic transmission (shift points), transmission uses engine assist during deceleration, manual mode of transmission, gas milage, brakes, precise steering"

Anonymous, PA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Damn near as quick as a GTI while getting 45 MPG!"

Diana S., MN (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The Golf accelerates with ease and is fun to drive on long curvy roads."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It's a Golf R, VW's high performance, all wheel drive Golf. The car handles extremely well in all weathers, the acceleration is exhilarating, but the car is a refined and comfortable daily driver as well. My favorite car out of approximately 50 I've owned."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"great acceleration and handling."

Charles B., NJ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"it drives like a go-kart. It's great"

David B., NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It's very nimble and sure-footed. The diesel engine provides excellent acceleration at surprisingly low rpms."

Hamilton R., TX (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Acceleration. Been flashed by APR. Better mileage, faster. Much faster. Will still burn 87 octane if desired."

A B., IA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Fast, turns on a dime"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The updates done to make the diesel meet EPA requirements didn’t harm the performance in any way I can tell and the mileage is terrific. I can easily get 50 mpg on the highway. In only in-town driving, I usually get just over 30 mpg. I love being able to punch it and be up to highway speed half way up the on-ramp."

Claudia R., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This car is fun to drive. For a diesel it moves quick and accelerates fast. It is a manual transmission so I control the pickup. It darts in and out of traffic well and can get into some tight spaces for parking."

Ronald B., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"diesel does not accelerate as well as my old gas engine"

Anonymous, MD (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It is outstanding. Just plain fun to drive. You didn't ask about functionality, but the only thing I'm unhappy about is the cargo space. I will be getting a VW Tiguan or a Sportwagen to get what I need. The driving experience is excellent"

Anonymous, AP (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"I have to say, it is everything. except the reliability."

Xuefeng Y., AB (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"acceleration is good and handling is exceptionally good - as good or better than our BMW"

Gregg F., NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Since we had the TDI diesel fix, the car handles completely different. It use to be a fun car to drive, now it isn't the same (and I don't know how to explain it). The acceleration is not as quick and the handling doesn't seem as responsive. In addition, the mpg has really dropped. We were not pleased with how the remediation went."

Tamara W., NJ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Very responsive. Tdi"

Anonymous, WA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Better acceleration and handling than the TDI version."

Jeff F., OR (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It is fun to drive!"

Cathy E., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Performance, mileage, cofort"

Dick G., UT (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This car has tremendous acceleration and power for its class. It handles well around curves and has an exceptionally smooth, quiet ride."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"I love the way this car handles. It is my third Golf TDI and every time I shop for a new car I try out the other cars in this class and none of them deliver as fun a ride. Great exceleration in the sport mode and so easy to switch in and out of it when you really want to move out. Combined with an incredibly small turning radius and great handling, it can’t be beat."

Anonymous, MD (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Overall the car has good pick up and handling, but has had mechanical problems."

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"As any intelligent race car driver will tell you, one cannot drive a performance car on the street like one drives on the race track. The handling is great and the acceleration makes passing on a two-lane highway safer. The brakes also match the car's handling characteristics."

Michael D., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The car is nimble, accelerates smartly, and handles very well."

HAMILTON R., TX (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"do not have to stop at gas stations. Fun to drive."

PETTER H., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"All good"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Acceleration is better than the TDI."

JEFF F., OR (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It has fantastic acceleration, since it's an electric motor drive, and it handles great, with a small turning radius."

JAMES H., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Overall, the Golf TDI is the best vehicle I've ever owned. Yes, my 1988 911 has better handling, and I can name individual attributes of other vehicles I've owned that were better. But as an overall package, the Golf TDI is the most satisfying vehicle I've ever owned. I love the handling, the fuel economy, the performance, and the ride of the car. It's a really fun car to drive. My biggest complaint about the car is that the display for the nav system is not a retina display and so I can see the"

SCOTT D., ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Love the acceleration (being all electric, acceleration is truly wonderful, all that low end torque. Love the quietness."

E K., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It handles very well. I like the tight turning radius."

ROBERT S., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It tracks true down the highway, feels incredibly stable, and has perky acceleration for the price."

GREGG F., NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"In sport mode it is quick off the line and is very comfortable to drive. It rides well on smooth and rough roads. Handling is very good. There still exists some blind spots in the mirrors but overall I am very pleased with the car"

Anonymous, MA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The eGolf is built on the same platform as the other small VW and Audi models, but the battery pack is located low and the suspension tuned for the added weight, so the vehicle handles super. Absolutely fun to drive as only an electric can be."

CHARLES B., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Truly an extremely fun driving experience. Feels and handles like a vehicle much more expensive."

CHUCK W., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"drives like sport car, but it conftable"

ZORAN K., MD (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Superquick. Real fun to drive"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Jumpy accelerate as it goes through gear change. Handling very good."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Terrific road car with power and economy using regular gas to reach 40 mpg on interstate trips."

STEPHEN H., TN (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The handling's very sporty and the acceleration's surprising. Of course it has a diesel which is being recalled."

SCOTT P., TX (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"ACCELERATION AND HANDLING"

KENNETH M., LA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It is quick and handles very well and is fun to drive."

JAMES T., WA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The drive train is taken from the Audi S3 and features full-time all wheel drive. Both handling and acceleration are top-notch for this class of vehicle (high performance hatch-back). This car replaced a Honda S-2000, and has all of the creature comforts I wanted without much compromise in performance."

V D., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The handling is the best I have ever driven in over 40 years of driving!"

MARTIN S., IL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"I replaced a 2003 BMW 3-series with the 2015 Golf. The Golf handles so well and is so peppy that I don't miss the BMW at all. An added bonus is that I don't have the blind spots, either!"

A A., MA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It's not a fast car, but acceleration is smooth, quiet, and quick."

RYAN M., NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Squeaks on slow left hand turns"

Anonymous, WA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Fun to drive!"

WILLIAM V., NS (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Drives like a roller skate with a rocket attached. Superb handling and it changes speed rather than accelerates, very useful in town. Gearing/power delivery from 0 is badly done, makes you roll stop signs more than is wise."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This is a Golf R and the car provides a great driving experience with outstanding acceleration, but also everyday commutes of over 100+miles."

JOHN K., NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This is an all-electric car, and the best car I've ever driven or owned! Lots of fun, excellent acceleration from a start, almost zero maintenance, clean, and quiet! And with free charging where I work, it's saving lots of $$."

Anonymous, MA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"I find that in 5th [standard tranny], there's not a lot of pick-up at speeds lower than 100 k - have to go to 4th - BUT otherwise it is sooo smooth & easy to drive & at highway speeds is very fuel efficient. I also like that cruise control is not turned off when I upshift unless I put the brake on."

Anonymous, ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Cruise control buttons are located on the Golf steering wheel so that the driver's eyes must be taken off the road in order to locate them and the hand must release the wheel to touch them. This is a safety issue unless the driver has plenty of practice with this car. Previous VW models (like Jetta) had these controls on the end of the turn signal lever, where they could be located by feel and pressed by one finger without releasing the wheel."

C F., NC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Not proportional to the 150 HP it is supposed to have, but very frugal."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"In spite of the bad press, the diesel motor in this vehicle is astoundingly good. Excellent mileage, excellent torque and performance, and a smoothness that is lacking in most gasoline engines."

Mark W., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Very zippy and fun to drive."

Jeff F., OR (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The acceleration and handling is second to none. The power is there and it delivers on demand. Handling is great."

Jim G., IN (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"THE CAR HANDLES WELL AND PROVIDES ABOUT 24 MPG AVERAGE."

Robert S., PA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This vehicle has sporty handling and acceleration. It is a blast to drive."

Garmon E., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This car is a total joy to drive. Handling, power and excellent fuel economy. Perfect."

William E., WA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Very solid feel with little outside noise."

Cathy E., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Comfy seats, good adjustment"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Comfortable firm bucket seats. Like the electric seats that facilitate the adjustment you want. Miss heated seats."

Anonymous, PA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"compare with the price I paid, the noise lever get beyond what I expect, and the driver seat is very comfort, I loved fabric surface in the winter, and it looks premium. I am small size, the seat feels like it is customize for my body. It is Golf, so I do not need to mention the ride, in its group, it is not the one of the best, it is THE best."

Xuefeng Y., AB (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"the Golf is relatively quiet and rides comfortably. The seats are supportive and made of quality materials."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Seats are very comfortable. This is an all-electric car, so the ride is VERY smooth and quiet."

Dave V., MA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Ride, noise. Super comfortable."

A B., IA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Excellent back support, great contour, comfortable sitting. The same has applied to all VW that i have owned/leased."

Pavel Z., ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Driver seat with in-built storage drawer is great."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Comfortable seats with good leg room even in rear. Decent head room. Low noise. More than adequate A/C and heating"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Too much road noise Right leg and thigh get tired and sore on long trips - especially in traffic."

Charles B., NJ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It is a bit stiff in the ride, but it handles great ! The brakes have begun to squeak a little, when in reverse."

JAMES H., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"QUIET COMFORTABLE GOOD HANDLING"

Anonymous, QC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"As a retired amateur race car driver, handling, braking, and acceleration are important factors to me when buying a car. The VW Golf R meets all of these requirements with comfortable seats, good climate control, minimum noise and a good sporty ride."

V D., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The seats are too hard"

ROBERT S., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Ride is generally good but skimpy padding in seats make long road trips uncomfortable."

C F., NC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"BAD - lack of rear orange turn signal; lack of dash CD player"

GARETH E., PE (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Main complaint with this car is the front seats are too narrow and too HARD !!! In fact, the car could be just a little bit bigger. There is adequate rear legroom for riders on short trips. The ride and handling is tight and the general design is good i.e. cargo, etc when rear seats are down. Also, the automatic transmission jerks and downshifts too early unless you stomp on the accelerator, and too often. One must use the "S" setting to avoid this, but then your mileage drops significantly. T"

Anonymous, NC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"very comfortable seats very quiet ride."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Back support. Good climate control. Low noise. Excellant ride."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Seats are perfectly supporting the body, are firm, adjustable. Ride is incredibly smooth and quiet,"

PAVEL Z., ON (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The car feels very assertive on the road. It sticks to the road like glue and makes me feel confident as a driver."

Garmon E., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The driver's seat is adjustable to conform to my natural sitting position and the ride is tight, quiet, and smooth, allowing me to drive for extended periods of time without fatigue."

Anonymous, NC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Great fuel economy. I get in the mid 50's on road trips. Extremely comfortable seating and good handling. Looks great, too."

Jan H., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Incredible smooth and quiet ride. Seat comfort is pretty good; getting in and out is a bit snug."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Incredible driving experience, great mpgallon, great audio, great reliability"

Dick G., UT (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Got $5000 off on a held back TDI!"

Diana S., MN (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"great miles per gallon"

Kemp W., MD (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The Golf I bought is the Golf R and has the same engine and drive train as the Audi S3. As a retired amateur race car driver, the handling, seat comfort, noise suppression, and carrying capacity are the features I wanted in a car that cost about $40K. I ordered one of the first 500 Golf R's and paid list price as expected."

Michael D., AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"EXCELLENT MPG AND GREAT DRIVING EXPERIENCE"

KENNETH M., LA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Quiet, solid, a lot of car for the money."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Of course the recall has me wondering about the future of this car. I test drove over six different cars that I was interested in before I chose this vehicle. I spent probably a hundred hours researching, driving, and negotiating the purchase of it. As much as I enjoy the car now, I feel I've been cheated by Volkswagen and I'm concerned about future performance and mileage."

GLENN S., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Bottom line, the Golf is over priced for a compact car."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Higher price than similar cars, but a better vehicle. No led lights or mirror link. Exterior mirrors too small."

G S., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"I love the car. It it performs well because VW lied about the emissions system."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The market for used electric vehicles (that aren't Tesla) is fantastic right now. I paid 50% of sticker for a one year old vehicle with only 8000 miles on the odometer."

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"I own a golf this. I'm angry about the lies in was fed about exhaust issues. I'm confused about what the ultimate outcome of the ordeal will bring. I've gotten no information from VW other than I will get a few hundred dollars over what I owe when they take it back from me. It's absurd that they are adding in "high millage" (I have 28K on my car) as a reason to lower the about of the buyback."

JOHN D., SC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Feels like a more expensive car."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This is a diesel. We have applied for a $7,000 settlement available to us, but really are not sure if this will fully compensate for the loss in resale value. Also, VW has not yet contacted us to update the emissions controls."

Anonymous, BC (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Incredibly good deal compared to cars that friends have bought for same price. It is a much more solid car than others for this money and then it also has great mileage and great resale value."

Richard R., MA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Great value for the money. Our Golf is a clean diesel (new for 2015) and gets great mileage. The car handles extremely well. When you close the door, it's solid and makes us feel very safe. I was in a front-end collision 5 days after getting the car. The car held up extremely well. I wasn't hurt. The repair shop was impressed with the quality of the parts. Once fixed, it was as good as new. Love this car. It has everything I want in a car and then some."

Jim G., IN (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"looks like a normal car for an electric car"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The styling is pretty boring, but inside the car is very nice. What I don't like is the softness of the metal, it dents very easily when someone parks too close and bumps your door. I didn't have that problem with my 2012 Golf. VW needs to go back to using better materials and perk up the styling."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Body style"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Hatchback style is versatile, interior is well done and satisfying"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"The look and feel of interior materials makes the car feel more expensive than it is."

RYAN M., NY (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Clean, modern, yet retains the look of a VW Golf."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"This is the 7th generation of Golf, since 1984. This car has evolved to perfection. I don't see how it could get any better. This is a great looking car with a low coefficient of drag. I get great gas mileage - 42 MPG - measured at the tank (46mpg by computer)"

CHARLES C., CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Looks like a regular car. Other electric cars look super goofy."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"Love this vehicle, best bang for the buck!"

WILLIAM V., NS (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It appears just the same and accelerates better than the Golf TDI"

JEFF F., OR (2015 Volkswagen Golf)

"It is a smaller car that has very good room inside. The hatchback styling is very practical beside looking good."
