This version of the Touareg is a luxury SUV with a quiet and plush interior imparting a truly premium ambiance. It delivers agile handling, a firm, steady ride, ample interior room and very comfortable seats. A 3.6-liter gasoline V6 is standard. We tested the diesel version, which proved to be smooth-running and muscular. It delivered a healthy dose of effortless mid-range punch, particularly lending itself to towing.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"The 3.0 liter TDI engine is the perfect power plant for this car. Good acceleration both from a stop or on the highway for merging and passing."

David T., PA (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"Excellent, to bad it is not a diesel because the mileage is terrible."

Craig F., MD (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"The high mileage, TDI engine and 4Drive make this an excellent towing and off-road vehicle."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"I still am amazed at the acceleration of this SUV; the diesel really pulls away at a stop light, or even when cruising. We pull a 5000 travel trailer at times and it feels like it'll keep accelerating up a hill until it hits 90+ mph. Handling is tight and that makes the car fun to drive."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"The diesel engine provides great power and acceleration. Vehicle handles well while delivering good mileage. Highway mileage runs between 30 and 32 mpg. Road noise levels on some types of pavement slightly on the loud side from time to time."

DAVID T., PA (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"Awesome performance Rides like a car but can tow like a 1/2 ton pickup"

Anonymous, IN (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"I use this to tow my airstream travel trailer. I am extremely satisfied with the handling, towing, and low fuel consumption. I would definitely buy the same vehicle again."

RAY T., ON (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"Its a hybrid so accelerates as good as a V8. Handles well for a SUV"

THOMAS M., GA (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

"I love driving this car. Acceleration and handling are excellent. Very nimble and lots of power when needed."

Anonymous, BC (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)

Anonymous, WA (2013 Volkswagen Touareg)
