Kristen Purcell is a survey methodologist and sociologist with more than two decades of experience designing and conducting primary research for some of the nation's most respected nonprofit and policy research organizations. As Consumer Reports' Chief Research Officer, she is responsible for overseeing CR's data-driven research capabilities, including survey research, data science, market analysis, consumer experience & usability, and statistics.

Prior to joining CR, she served as a Senior Health Researcher at Mathematica Policy Research, where she conducted program and policy evaluations for clients such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Defense, the Social Security Administration, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Prior to her work at Mathematica Policy Research, she served as Director of Research for the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, whose mission is to understand the ways digital technologies are shaping Americans' lives.

She earned her B.A. in sociology and American studies from Franklin & Marshall College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from Rutgers University.
