About - BHG Fully Automatic Thermal 10-Cup Grind & Brew

The BHG Fully Automatic Thermal 10-Cup Grind & Brew is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the Fully Automatic Thermal 10-Cup Grind & Brew are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are brew-and-dispense models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

A waste of my money! It is indeed a beautifully designed machine, but this coffee mill and brew maker is absolutely worthless and despite all its hoop-la it does NOT make a HOT cup of coffee. After the brewing cycle, I grew very tired of having to constantly re-heat my morning java in the micro-wave.

Spend a little more money and buy a Cuisinhart or a more reputable brand and use the BHG only as a back-up if you prefer drinking luke-warm coffee from this worthless piece of junk!

Small Amount
We've been trying to figure out why this coffee maker does not make a good cup of coffee: water temp, bean grinder, poor thermal pot? I think it's all the above. And in the end, we decided it just needed to go!
It's quiet, makes a small amt. of coffee, and brews quickly. But that means nothing if you have to give everyone in the cabin directions (one-by-one as they wake up) how to unscrew the cap to get a cup of coffee. And it's warm, not hot coffee if you're not drinking the 1st cup.
The grind system apparatus also takes individual instructions to assemble and is tedious to wash... but aren't they all!
We're moving on from BHG...

Coffee Needs Microwaving

I use this coffee maker every day. It makes great coffee, easy to clean, no filter needed. When making coffee I always rinse and fill the Caraff with hot water. I use a Bunn water pitcher to fill the coffee maker with cold water. Coffee stays hot about 4 hours before needing microwaving, but the coffee doesn't taste old or burnt like many other coffee makers.
