I have had nothing but problems with this since I bought it. The issues that the others have written about describes the problems exactly. GE should really consider issuing a recall for this product.
They constant clicking of the ignitor, the knobs on the post are plastic and are not durable like you would think it would be for the price. We have replaced our knobs 3 times and 2 of the ignitors.
The knobs are also to close to the burner and it melts the rubber on the knobs if you turn it on high.
This is a terrible unit and I would not consider ever buying it again. If this is a example of GE then I will not buy their product again.

Comment:
Because I frequently use my cooktop (making dinner everynight), it's a nightmare to keep the burners and top rack to clean. Don't think your going to take a dishcloth and wisk away the sauce that may have bubbled onto the rack. It drags over the ironstone rack and half the dishcloth's little fibers stay behind. Yuck! The only way to rid the fibers is to take a metal brush and hose the racks and leave them out in the sun to dry. Thank God I live in Palm Desert. The burners are stained the first time you use them! I am refering to the silver area below the flame section. I would not suggest this product to anyone!!!! I have only had this product < then 6 months and I am already thinking about throwing it out!

We installed a GE Monogram cooktop as part of a major remodeling of our kitchen. It looks good and when it works it is a perfectly acceptable cooktop, but there are several problems that make it a bad choice. Like many other reviewers, we have had to replace the automatic ignition system twice and we have constantly had other problems with ignition on individual burners. Every time we have had it repaired, the serviceman has told us this is a common problem with these cooktops. In addition, when the burners are turned very low for gentle simmering, there is almost constant clicking and sparking from the ignition system -- not all burners and not all the time, but it is very annoying when it happens and you have to move pots around to find the burner that is tolerating a low flame that day. Finally, within a few weeks after we started using the cooktop, the markings around the control knobs started to disappear. We did not use harsh cleaners -- mostly Method countertop spray. Within a few months, all traces of markings disappeared completely. The ignition system has now failed completely for the third time and we are going to replace the entire unit. I do not understand why the CR review does not reflect the complaints of so many reviewers (confirmed to us by service people recommended by GE) that the igniter is poorly designed.
