About - Cosco Scenera

The Cosco Scenera is part of the car seat test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, convertible car seat models like the Scenera are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Crash protection:
Evaluation of a seat’s potential for providing an additional margin of safety in simulated 35mph frontal crashes when compared to the performance of similar models. Evaluation is based on injury criteria measured on standardized child-size dummies, head contact with the back of a simulated front seat, and the car seat’s ability to remain intact during the course of testing.

Ease of use:
Our judgment of how easy each seat is to use including the clarity of labels and instructions, adjustments of clips and buckles, the transition of the seat from rear facing to forward facing and installation features such as LATCH connections and top tethers.

Rear LATCH:
Rear-facing installation using the LATCH system. A rating of how compatible, easy and secure a child car seat can be correctly installed in certain test vehicles. This rating is based on a rear-facing installation using the LATCH system.

Comment:
I love this car seat to travel with! It is very lightweight and easy to install. Saving a few pounds while running through airports, and a few minutes when picking up a rental car on the way to grandma's house was well worth the purchase of this car seat. The simple design and construction misses all of the bells and whistles of the bigger and more expensive seats, but it passes all the safety tests, and if its damaged by the airline or in a fender bender while on vacation - its only about $50 to replace...

We originally planned to buy this to get us through until we could afford a nicer one, but we fell in love with this car seat. It's so easy to install! Our daughter has been using this for 18 months and we just ordered our son's car seat! We're very excited to get our second! The padding isn't thick but our daughter rode 10 hours to Florida and she slept almost the whole drive!

I have 4 of the seats, two in each vehicle for my 18 mo old and 4 yr old (Volks Wagen Jetta sedan, and Chevy Silvardo truck). I bought two in 2010 so I have had these seats for 3 years and they have held up nicely. I inspect them every 6 months. Yes it is difficult to install untill you get used to it, although now I can install in 5 min. I can get a completly snug fit forward facing LATCH in no time and I'm a 4'11, 120lb woman. Rear facing takes some additional work but with the right towels it sits at the correct angle and I can get it secured properly. Although my 250lb husband still can't seem to get them in there tight. There is very little padding but this has never been a problem. Our girls sleep just fine in the long car rides. You just can't beat the cost and excellent crash test rating. These are the most important to me. It can be a little hard to tighten the straps especially if you acidently tangle the LATCH system strap with the belt straps which I have done. I just had to take it out and untangle. I would definately buy these again and did. I bought the second two in 2012.
