Director, Human Resources Business Partner
Position Overview:

Under the leadership of Marta Tellado, President & CEO, and the organization’s senior leadership team, Consumer Reports is entering the next chapter of its work to enhance its impact on the marketplace and help people in their daily lives.  As part of this effort we are investing in our talent and organizational development capacity and recruiting to fill a number of positions that support the talent and human resources needs of the organization. Consumer Reports is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a human resources business partner supporting our content development division – the team responsible for Consumer Reports’ website, magazine, video and TV operations, podcasts and more.  As a key member of the HR Leadership Team, this individual will help move the organization forward, contributing to fostering an agile, innovative and inclusive organization and work environment that enables employees to perform their best while furthering their growth and development.

 

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the HR Business Partner provides generalist support for assigned client groups and serves as a trusted advisor and business/thought partner to management on talent and organization effectiveness.  The HRBP is committed to building a diverse workforce and accelerating the performance, growth and development of CR and its employees. This role contributes to shaping talent strategies and enterprise-wide initiatives that aim to engage, align, develop and retain talent to achieve CR’s strategic goals. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides human resources generalist support with an emphasis on organizational effectiveness and design, employee relations and engagement, performance management, talent assessment and development, and contributes to shaping the culture and facilitating new ways of working together.
  • Builds effective relationships with staff at all levels. Serves as a key business partner to management and a trusted advisor and coach to all staff.
  •  Partners with divisional Vice Presidents, and other key leaders to continuously ensure talent is optimized, resources are aligned with strategic goals and priorities, and departments/teams are organized effectively to execute CR’s strategy.
  • Identifies and leverages opportunities to integrate, align, develop and engage staff in executing CR’s strategic plan and a prioritized set of annual operating initiatives.
  • Maintains an effective level of business and functional knowledge to proactively influence, educate, and implement change, as well as build and retain a diverse, high performing workforce.
  • Delivers appropriate coaching and development feedback to help managers become more effective and progressive leaders and understand their role in enhancing the employee experience.
  • Partners with HR specialists in talent acquisition, talent development, labor relations, and total rewards to provide talent solutions to attract, onboard, develop and retain talent.
  • Works with talent acquisition to identify, assess, select and onboard talent.
  • Partners with talent development to design and deliver customized training and organization-wide learning programs for individuals and teams.
  • Serves as program lead for assigned client group for performance management, goal setting and compensation planning, including facilitating communications, training, coaching, and process/system support.
  • Collaborates with labor relations expert to anticipate, avoid and resolve labor and employee relations challenges/grievances at the individual and organizational levels.
  • Works with compensation expert to implement salary planning and recognition programs, and develops job descriptions for new, existing, and promotional opportunities.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of HR generalist experience ideally in a media, publishing or other creative organization.
  •  Adaptable, analytical and creative with strong communication skills. Able to present information and support decision making through effective data analysis and storytelling capabilities.
  •  Strong HR and business acumen with demonstrated success serving as a true HR business partner to leadership and trusted advisor to staff.
  •  Superior interpersonal and relationship building skills. Ability to quickly establish and build effective partnering relationships, maintain confidences, appropriately manage sensitive and confidential information, and inspire trust. 
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities and lead and work with urgency in the midst of a significant business/organizational transformation.
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing talent strategies that support culture, acquisition/retention, diversity, and other organizational goals.
  • Strong technical skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Google Suite.
