The American Plumber WLCS-1000 is part of the water filter
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, water filter
models like the WLCS-1000 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
Lead removal indicates the percentage of lead that was removed by each filter.
Chloroform removal rates the percentage of chloroform removed. A filter's ability to remove chloroform predicts how well it will remove organic compounds as well as byproducts created by disinfectants used by water systems.
Flow rate is how fast a gallon of water filtered through the cartridge. The criteria for flow rate scores differ between different types of filters. Faucet-mount, countertop, and undersink models have the same criterion; carafes and reverse osmosis models each have their own.

This is a good water filter. The water tastes good and the water flow is also good. What appauls me are the shipping fees. I thought I was purchasing a filter system (plus two replacement filters) for $290-ish dollars. What it finally cost me to receive the shipment from the US to Montreal was [$] in total. I had to pay Canadian duty the shipping fees alone were $90! This item arrived in a smallish and light box. There was NO JUSTIFICATION for what they changed me for shipping. When I called AP to complain, they informed be that American Plumber Online handles the orders, and American Plumber does not set the fees (that is at the discretion of the Online store). I inquired about buying new filters and the shipping fees to get the replacement filters were %40 of the cost of the filters! Outrageous! I feel completely ripped off and had I known I would never have bought from Amerian Plumber. I CANNOT RECOMMEND this product based on their lack for fairness. Furhter, there are comparable products are on the market for a much cheaper total cost. Please inquire about shipping fees to your area before ordering!
How long have you owned it:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Tasting Water
Small Space Requirement
After 3 years, I still love this filter. The water tastes as good as my Culligan Reverse Osmosis created, at a fraction of the cost. Installation was pretty easy if you have a little plumbing skills; took about 1 hour. The filters last a long time and are very easy to change. The name brand filters cost a little bit more, but seem to last longer. The initial price might sound expensive, but it's very inexpensive when you consider the cost of a reverse osmosis system or buying bottled water. I highly recommend this system! You can get the Culligan Pentek 1500 at [@] for [$] and I believe it's the same set. [...]
