About - Ariens Platinum 921017

The Ariens Platinum 921017 is a snow blower available from Ariens. The Platinum 921017 typically costs $1350 .

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on snow blower models like the Platinum 921017.

Engine size:
Engine Size is the engine displacement measured in cubic centimeters for gasoline powered engines. Most manufacturers not longer give a horsepower rating. Engine displacement is now the only universal way to compare relative engine size. Electric motors are stated in amps.

Electric start:
Most models offer a plug-in startng device that saves you the hassle of pull-starting the engine, but you need to be near an outlet.

Multiple speeds:
For two-stage models, most come with multiple forward speeds and two reverse speeds. The ability to vary ground speed according to snow conditions gets the job done faster. Some of the least expensive two-stage models have only one forward speed.

Tested Model
The Ratings of Ariens 920014 were applied to untested model Ariens Platinum 921017, which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.

Comment:
I have a two family with a parking area for 5 cars plus a two car garage. I had a 33 inch craftsman with a b&s max 16.5 torque. This is more powerful matched to 24 inch. i clear snow without throwing it twice. My driveway is about 65 ft on US Rt 3 in a small city in NH It has gone through the bank every storm without a problem. Have not had to clear the chute. I clear snowbank openings for trash and the postman and use for sidewalks. It was 300 less than a comparable Simplicity which I looked at first.

Comment:
I must agree with the other reviewers, This machine is not the model tested and should not be ranked the same. I paid the price for an excellent snowblower after years with the cheaper models which I totally regretted. I'm very satisfied with this Ariens, (And I love the hand warmers!) I live in the cold and snow of northern Wisconsin. The local dealer is also excellent.

Comment:
The Platinum is a completely different manchine from the Compact model they tested. The only feature they share are the width of the clearing path. CR should remove this rating immediately as it is very misleading. Like the other reviewer stated, the Platinum has a larger auger, more powerful engine, traction control, a more robust gear differential, hand warmers, etc...
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
