Flight Search is Google's new Web-based tool that will let travelers both find and book flights via Google's search engine. Flights are chosen primarily based on cost and travel time, but you can adjust the filters to focus a flight search to your specific needs.

The service is still in its first stages, and additional features are still to come—but for now, a quick perusal of the site shows that it returns flight information quickly. Very quickly.

Google gave an early look Tuesday with example flights to and from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Minneapolis. Mashable described Google's unveiling of Flight Search as a "quiet launch." The news outlet also reported that last summer, Google made a $700 million purchase of the company that developed the airfare search and pricing system QPX, which is also used by major airlines.

The business of online booking is already crowded with sites including CheapTickets, Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity, but several airlines have already signed up for the forthcoming Google service, among them American, Continental, Delta, and JetBlue. Google's Flight Search is clearly still being developed, but it already gives other online travel sites a run for their money when it comes to turnaround time.
