About

The Bonavita BV-1800TH is part of the Coffee maker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Coffee maker models like the BV-1800TH are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance: The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing and an indication of the coffee's concentration.

Convenience: Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling: Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are self-serve models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Results in the following chart are gathered from Consumer Reports’ 2018 Summer Survey of 42,774 drip coffee makers, owned by members who purchased a new machine between 2008 and 2018.

Our predicted brand reliability ratings are based on a statistical model that estimates problem rates within the first 4 years of ownership, for drip coffee makers that are not covered by an extended warranty or service contract. We also adjust for the median number of days of use per week. The median in our survey was 7 days per week. Higher ratings are indicative of better reliability. Brands receiving a red or orange rating cannot be recommended by CR at this time.

Our owner satisfaction ratings are based on the proportion of members who are extremely likely to recommend their drip coffee maker brand to friends and family.
