Two people baking cookies in a range.

Labor Day is the last major holiday before Black Friday when you can expect to see deals on ranges. So if you want a new range for holiday cooking, now’s the time to get shopping.

Consumer Reports has found that a lot of retailers are offering similar discounted pricing on popular models, sometimes even matching one another within hours of when deals are announced. So finding the very best deals may mean delving into the fine print.

More on Ranges

“Since most major retailers will offer a price-match guarantee on ranges sold by the competition, it makes sense to look at extras like free delivery, installation costs, and haul-away services,” says market analyst Claudette Ennis, who oversees ranges for Consumer Reports. She says that it’s even worth considering details like delivery windows.

You may be able to find an even better deal if you’re in the market for more than one appliance. “The price for a range may differ by only a few dollars from Home Depot to Lowe’s, but some retailers let you save more by bundling—if, for example, you buy a refrigerator and range at the same time,” Ennis says.

3 Hot Labor Day Deals on Gas Ranges

Best Entry-Level Gas Range Deal
Frigidaire LFGF3054TF
Where to buy it:
Regular price: $829
Sale price: $579
Savings: $250
CR’s take: Simply put, you rarely find a gas range with this many features for so little. This stainless steel Frigidaire has five burners, including a central griddle burner, and comes with a free nonstick griddle. It also has a 17,000-Btu power burner—unusual for a range at this price—that helps this model earn a rating of Very Good in Consumer Reports’ cooktop-high test, which measures how fast a range will heat water. Exclusive to Lowe’s, this Frigidaire range qualifies for free delivery.

Best Midpriced Gas Range Deal
Samsung NX58H9500WS
Where to buy it:
Best Buy
Regular price: $2,000
Sale price: $1,599.99
Savings: $400
CR’s take: This top-scoring gas range has plenty of bells and whistles, including a convection oven and seamless, slide-in design. With no clunky back panel, it offers an elegant, refined look. This model rates well in every test in our labs, but it’s especially adept at simmering sauces, earning a rating of Excellent in our cooktop-low test. Home Depot and Lowe’s are selling this Samsung for the same $1,599 price this Labor Day, but we think Best Buy is more worth a look for two reasons. First, if you’re also in the market for a fridge or dishwasher and choose a Samsung, Best Buy will give you the Labor Day sale price on both appliances, plus an additional $160 off the bundle. Second, a handful of Best Buy stores offer open-box specials, where you can snag a display version of this range—with the same warranty—for as little as $1,099.

Best Premium Gas Range Deal
GE Profile PGS930SELSS
Where to buy it:
Home Depot
Regular price: $2,599
Sale price: $1,998
Savings: $601
CR’s take: This top-tier range beautifully blends performance, design, and cutting-edge features. It does extremely well in our tests, earning a rating of Very Good in baking, meaning it can evenly and reliably brown cakes and cookies baked on multiple racks. It has five burners, a built-in griddle, and even a WiFi-connected oven that can be programmed from your smartphone, so you can preheat your oven on your way home from the supermarket or check to make sure you shut off all the burners from your bed, without heading back to the kitchen.

Its cavernous oven bakes and broils well. You’ll find this model priced similarly at stores other than Best Buy, but you’ll realize additional savings if you bundle it with a Samsung fridge or dishwasher purchased from Best Buy at the same time. It earns solid marks in most of our tests, including a rating of Excellent in our cooktop-high test, meaning it heats water very quickly. Not only does Home Depot have a slight edge on the best price this Labor Day but it also offers this model for delivery almost two weeks ahead of most of the competition.
