About - Cuisinart Crystal SCC-1000 Limited Edition Perfec Temp

The Cuisinart Crystal SCC-1000 Limited Edition Perfec Temp is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the Crystal SCC-1000 Limited Edition Perfec Temp are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
The ability to reach 195° to 205° F for five or six minutes, the industry standard for optimal brewing.

Convenience:
Reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, and cleaning up. It also reflects how clear we judged the controls.

Carafe handling:
Covers handle comfort, tendency to drip while pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve cups or are brew-and-dispense models. The latter hold the coffee in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Comment:
I bought this based on Consumer Reports - in fact this is the second one I've purchased. Within the first 6 months the hinge broke. Coffee maker still worked so no big deal. 6 months later the water tank starts leaking on the counter - big deal. I come to Consumer Reports and find it's still their top coffee maker. Either all coffee makers are junk and this is as good as it gets or Consumer Reports has tested it thoroughly - either way I'll probably buy another. Plan on replacing every year! At $200 a year it almost makes it cheaper to stop and buy coffee.

Comment:
Like so many others, the spring hinge lid fell apart in less than 15 months. Very poor design.

Pouring the water in the little spaces provided to fill the reservoir are a challenge. You almost always spill water somewhere.

The plate on the bottom of the coffee maker is straight steel and rusts. It has permanently stained our countertop.

NO RESPONSE OR REPLY FROM CUISINART!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. No contact information past front line customer service available anywhere. Disappointing from a high end appliance maker commanding premium pricing.

The pluses: 14 cup capacity. The carafe spout design is one of the few that doesn't succumb to surface tension and water dribbling down the carafe when pouring.

Comment:
We bought this based on consumer reports rating. We won't buy another one of this brand. In less than one year the hinges on the reservoir broke and won't allow the lid to close properly. Very disappointed. Already looking to replace it with a Bunn.
