Comment:
We purchased two (2) of these ovens two (2) years ago and have had no problem until we used the self clean feature. When we cleaned the first oven for 3 hours (the shortest option) the display went dead, the oven remained locked, and nothing worked. A Whirlpool approved repair company was contacted. Since a repairman was coming in a few days, we decided to clean the other oven, again for the shortest time period of 3 hours. Same thing, the control panel went dead and nothing works. The repairman said that this is a common problem requiring replacement of two thermofuses on each oven-minimum cost ca.$200 up to $1,000 if a control panel needs replacement. Lesson learned-test self clean during warranty and buy extended warranty--or better yet buy a brand with a good warranty!! Whirlpool customer service==out of warranty therefore its your problem!!

Comment:
When researching this oven I read many negative comments about heating times and fan noise. I went ahead and purchased it and have been very happy with it. It heats from cold to 350 degrees in about 10 minutes. I bought it to replace a 20 year old GE oven and don't know how long the GE took to heat up, but I don't notice the Whirlpool to take any longer. The fan noise is noticeable, but no more than a refrigerator compressor/fan or a quite dishwasher. The oven performs well, consistent with the CR testing.S

Comment:
The reviews about the fan noise on this site actually caused us to cancel our initial order. However, we decided to take a chance on it and assumed people just like to complain. We were right. The fan does changes pitches as some say, but it is markedly quieter than our previous fan. We don't hear it 'across the house'. The sound is on par with a newer model dishwasher running. I will admit the tones on the oven are loud. The volume setting says 'High' and 'Low', but it should really be 'Deafening' and 'Ears only bleed a little'. Yes, that is a bit of an exaggeration, but if that is the worst thing about the overall noise of this oven, so be it.

There was a very pungent smell at first use (expected) that would not go away after at least 10 hours worth of Broil settings (not expected). However, this was because we listened to the complaints that the self-cleaning mode shorted out the oven. We finally did a self-cleaning cycle for 3 hours and (after 2.5 hours of a horrible smell that caused us to evacuate the house) the oven was fine...both smell and condition afterwards.

Now in full operation mode (daily use), it heats quickly, temps are accurate, cooks evenly, and lives up to the ratings on this site.

Buy this oven. We got it on sale for under $1k, which is ridiculous value for this good of an oven. Time will tell if we got what we paid for when it comes to quality of construction, but by that point, this review will be worthless. Big thumbs up here.
