I've owned this for years and love using it but getting it to work each time is confusing. The product is great but the instructions are not. I finally labelled each part with the steps: 1st Insert Probe, next press & hold power button, next press and hold display button to choose meat & temperature. Now setting up the thermometer is a breeze and my meat always comes out perfect. I like that I can take the display unit with me while the roast cooks.

Aargh review is right on. First - scan the instructions, enlarge for readability and review before every use. Yes - remove batteries after every use - they will be dead next time. Get a bright light and maybe a magnifying glass because you will be playing with small switches and micro reset buttons under the battery covers every time. Treat the probes like newborn babes - they will die anyway. And yes, if you can locate the replacements - $$$ !!! And now for the worst part - apparently all these remote thermometers are so bad - I'm actually considering buying another one of these !!

I've lost all faith in CR's "recommendations" and testing.

This is really a piece of junk!

Bought this a few years ago. It NEVER WORKED! What scares me the most is how CR can rate this as, RECOMMENDED.

Obviously from reading other negative reviews I have to wonder if CR ever tests products they recommend at all?
