I'm surprised that it was highly rated since its performance was spotty: too dark, too light, uneven from side to side and from slot to slot. Slots are wide enough for a bagel but not long enough for artisanal bread. Then the display died (probably a blown capacitor) and it only works if I hold down the lever. That's equivalent to holding a piece of bread on a forked stick over a campfire. CR couldn't possibly test long enough for design faults like that to show up so there's no blame there. This is just a warning for future purchasers: Don't Do It!

The Target toaster for $7.99 has an equal warranty. If I consecutively got three toasters I'd have three years of toasr. It would be cheaper.
