The LG DLEX8500V is part of the clothes dryer
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer
models like the DLEX8500V are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.
About This Brand
This company is known for its TrueSteam dryers and the designer colors available for its models. Some models have a steam generator intended to eliminate wrinkles. Prices for LG dryers range from $700 to $1,200.
Stainless-steel drum A stainless-steel drum is likely to resist damage better than plastic and painted metal drums.
Porcelain top A porcelain top resists scratching better than a painted one but generally adds to a dryer's cost. Painted tops, far more common, are often quite durable with normal use.
Drying rack The rack attaches inside the drum to keep items such as sneakers or sweaters from tumbling.
Custom programs This feature allows you to save your favorite settings.
Steam option Generally, a water hook-up is required with this feature. In this cycle, a small amount of water is sprayed into the drum while tumbling with heat. It helps to reduce wrinkles and odors, but is intended only for a few garments at a time.
The best thing about this dryer is the size. It is huge. I also love the steam wrinkle option. If I don't get to folding right away or my daughter helps by squishing everything in a little basket. I can put the load back in the dryer and let it steam the wrinkles out. Large lint filter is easy to clean. The only thing close to a con I have is that the setting needs to be set every load and I seem to have to spin the dial a lot to get to the setting I want.

We're a family of four with two young kids. We had to replace our washing machine and went with a HE front loader; we couldn't afford a new dryer at the time and ended up living with the differring capacities for seven years!

Our old dryer was at least 30 years old, and I'm sure a significant reason for such a favourable impression on us. This dryer does everything you'd want from a dryer; I even put wool items in and it does the bulk of the drying but stopping before doing damage - incredible. Capacity easily handled our thick padded Queen mattress pad. This unit does not connect directly to water - it has a water tray.

Only caution is delivery: the dryer is big so you need to be sure it will fit through doors; also, box is not very protective because it can't be very thick cardboard due to size. We ended up removing box to get it through doorways. Also, colour doesn't matter to us, but some may care that it is only available in grey (in 2014 Canada).
