About - Samsung DV50F9A8EVP

The Samsung DV50F9A8EVP is part of the clothes dryer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer models like the DV50F9A8EVP are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Drying performance:
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.

Capacity:
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.

Convenience:
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Comment:
I really hate this dryer. It either leaves clothes damp or over drys them. The lack of control over what it is going to do drives me crazy. For $1,200 I should be able to program it to do whatever I want. Even when it decides, it doesn't even do what it says it's going to do anyway.

I put a large load of towels and sheets in the dryeron Sensor Sanitize. It showed 1:07 (an hour and seven minutes) on the display. One and a half hours later, it was still running on high. Display still said 1:07 (an hour and seven minutes). Clothes were bone dry and smelled burned. 1) the Sensor feature did not stop the dryer when the clothes were dry, 2) timer did not count down and stop the dryer. Has happened twice. Bought dryer Aug 2013. Is this a known issue with a resolution?

Big and Quiet - but Major Design Flaw

Pros
Large Capacity
Quiet
Works Quickly
Cons
High Heat Hurts Fabrics
Little Temp Control
Not efficient

Comment:
This is a lovely big machine which operates quietly, and has loads of nice options. However, temperature selection is not one of them. Most clothing manufacturers recommend drying at LOW heat to better preserve fabrics and extend the life of the garment. However, that is not possible with this machine. For almost all load types, the temperature has been programmed to the High or Medium level, with no ability to choose Medium Low, Low, or Extra Low settings. One must choose the Timed Dry setting to get the Low temperature, just like dryers in the 1970s. The 'Delicates' selection is programmed at Extra Low - all other types of loads: towels, permanent press, jeans, etc, are limited to High or Medium. That is very disappointing.
