The Whirlpool Duet WED96HEAW is part of the clothes dryer
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer
models like the Duet WED96HEAW are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Stainless-steel drum A stainless-steel drum is likely to resist damage better than plastic and painted metal drums.
Porcelain top A porcelain top resists scratching better than a painted one but generally adds to a dryer's cost. Painted tops, far more common, are often quite durable with normal use.
Drying rack The rack attaches inside the drum to keep items such as sneakers or sweaters from tumbling.
Custom programs This feature allows you to save your favorite settings.
Steam option Generally, a water hook-up is required with this feature. In this cycle, a small amount of water is sprayed into the drum while tumbling with heat. It helps to reduce wrinkles and odors, but is intended only for a few garments at a time.
Owned it for about 5 months, bought it with matching washer. Have not had any issues. Love the large drum, dries clothes quickly and easily. Have it on a stand, which makes it easier to reach. Also like that it shows you when outside vent is blocked. Overall a good drier. I thought I would use the steam function more often, but it is not that great. It works, but you still have to iron -- bummer... Hate to iron :-)
How long have you owned it:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

2nd one in 30 days and needs repair >:(
Easy To Use
Leaves Clothes Damp
Bought it as part of the Whirlpool washer dryer pair from Sears on Consumer reports recommendation. This is the second unit we have had in the first 30 days and it is tearing itself apart! Had the first one replaced under Sears 30 day replacement policy. 2nd one is now loud, vibrates harshly, and shuts down as soon as it warms up. Service person is coming out to try and fix. Totally unacceptable to have 2 of the same unit simply not work from day one!
