The Cascade Complete ActionPacs is part of the dishwasher detergent
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, dishwasher detergent
models like the Complete ActionPacs are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
Liquids and powders generally pour easily; gels have a thicker consistency than liquids. Tablets are a dry, solid premeasured amount of detergent. Pacs have a dissolvable outer package containing a premeasured amount of liquid, gel, or powder. A dispenser product uses a cartridge that automatically dispenses a charge of detergent for 12 loads of dishes.

Contains bleach Based on the package ingredients list and other package claims, some detergents include bleach in their formulas. While the presence of bleach has not seemed to act on the baked-on soils in our tests, it might help with tea or similar stains.
Contains enzymes Based on the package ingredients list and other package claims, most tested detergents have enzymes, which can break up food for easier removal.
Cascade was used in a older Whirlpool Dishwasher with all the bells and whistles and not very hard water was used with this product, very hot water was used on every cycle, the product did clean but was horrible on getting off stains on anything plastic or colored glass such as Corelle and left a white film on black colored plastic and wooden utensils, although I have used Cascade powder for years and have somewhat similar results these pacs were the worst performers ever, I will be returning to another dishwasher detergent I have used inbetween using Cascade

Strong Odor On Plastics
I have always been a Cascade fan UNTIL NOW. Cascade Action Pacs do not work in my one year old, expensive dishwasher (bought based on CR's highest ratings and have loved it). The Cascade pacs leave a filmy, gritty, sticky residue on my silverware and glasses. Even worse, the strong odor left behind makes eating from the dishes very unpleasant, which has caused us to rinse them before using.

Recently, I have had major stomach issues and assumed that something that I had eaten was the culprit. Oddly the problems would get better during the week while I was working and not using dishes at home and worsen on weekends while eating mostly at home.
Then, I drank ice water from a plastic cup that hadn't been rinsed, my esophagus burned terribly. I immediately dumped the water and drank ice water from a paper cup which eased the burning sensation. This product may or may not be the culprit, but the sticky, filmy, gritty residue left behind is reason enough to switch. I am switching back to my previous tablet dishwasher product, which we were very happy using!
