I use the vacuum for my regular cleaning - I bought a better floor brush (wider and softer) and I find that works better than the floor brush that comes with it.

I find the latch on the tool cover is sticky and I also sometimes find it difficult to open the chamber with the bag... though it's not a big deal because the bag lasts a long time.

I suppose I've noticed the situation with the pet hair, but going over the carpet again usually picks up all the pet hair.

I also purchased a rotating brush for the stairs and the suction is enough to keep the brush turning. I also use that power head to get cat fur off the curtains.

I really like this machine except that it seems to have a mind of its own regarding where it goes when you pull it along... and sometimes it tips over. It has a comfortable handle and is not too heavy so I sometimes just carry it instead of dragging it - it's nice to have this option!

I have not had any problems with the plastic - yes, the housing is plastic, but I've tipped it and banged it so much that it would be in shards by now if it were not at least decent plastic... also, plastic housing makes it lighter than metal housing...

Comment:
House has tile & laminate flooring with a few low pile area carpets. Does an excellent job on the carpets. Not so much on the rest due to short wand and hose. Exhaust out the back stirs up dust. Tool compartment door has a poor latching system plus the tools aren't that usable because of the short hose. I don't remove the brush head for fear the latch will break. The Meile is used for everything else, Meile power brush for carpets uses a toothed belt and an industrial strength motor, which means you have to replace the belt everytime it gets jammed. The belts are not cheap! Panasonic is larger all around and more cumbersome, but does well on carpets.

Comment:
For my needs, this is the best and most affordable vacuum cleaner on the market. The suction power is incredibly strong and I especially like the power brush option for getting deep into the carpets. It works equally well on bare floors. The only downside is that the edge cleaning is just ok, but you can get around it by vacuuming from a different direction.

I had a similar Panasonic unit that lasted over 15 years and loved it. This one is just as good, plus it has other features that the old one didn't (power rotating brush; HEPA filter; headlight). It is made a bit differently but it is sturdy and well-built. I've had this vac for three years and haven't noticed any of the structural problems that other reviewers have mentioned. In fact, I haven't had any problems at all.
