2011 Model Redesign Year

Billed as a cross between the Insight hybrid and the sporty CRX from the 1980s, the two-seat CR-Z hybrid uses a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine paired with electric power for 122 hp overall. A Sport mode livens things up a little, but the CR-Z never feels quick. We measured 35 mpg overall in our tests, which is not impressive for a tiny hybrid. Handling is responsive and relatively nimble, but the CR-Z falls short of being a sports car. The ride is jumpy and the cabin is noisy. Having just two seats limits its appeal.

Rear visibility is severely compromised, but at least a rear-view camera is standard on all trim lines.
