Jaguar XJ

The somewhat radically styled 2011 redesign is much nicer than the model it replaces, making the big Jaguar a capable, comfortable, and fun-to-drive sports sedan offering a range of powerful V8s. We like the power and the plush appointments, but are unimpressed with the complex, slow-acting touchscreen. With seating for four, headroom is a little skimpy -- particularly in the back seat. Trunk space is also a bit lacking for a car of this size. Available safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. All-wheel drive was added as an option for the 2013 model year. A new XJR performance version, along with many safety features, were added to the 2018 model.

For the 2004 model year, Jaguar went all-aluminum with its large luxury car, in an effort to improve performance and fuel economy. This version of the XJ has a rather tight cabin, albeit replete with plush leather and wood trim. The front seats are nicely shaped, but cramped. Long-wheelbase models comfortably hold three in the rear seat. We like its smooth and responsive drivetrain and easy-to-use controls. Handling is fairly nimble, though the steering is too light and ride quality is not as comfortable or quiet as you'd expect for a car in this category.
